Zach being the apprentice is such a sad thing, cos he's such a sweetheart, but actually if you go back through the season, and even all the way to the first season, there are various moments and scenes that show Zach as a person who, because he is hyper rational, could justify anything as long as it makes logical sense to him, which as Brennan posited in that scene that he had acted out of logic, but he had essentially underestimated how his emotions would factor into it, meaning he insisted on doing the experiment instead of Hodgins, thus saving Hodgins from the explosion. Brennan posits that the reason Zach did what he did was because he saw the logic in all of those points, including one person is not more important than another, or multiple others, which he then disproved by saving Hodgins from the explosion. If you go back to the scene in season 1 with Agent Pickering who interviewed them all in regards to security, Zach's answers are in a very grey area morally, and there are other moments where he comes across as quite disconnected from everyone else, even Brennan who is relatively isolated herself. There was a scene where Brennan was angry with him for not thoroughly cleaning a skull, and after he redoes it, he says "it's clean enough to eat off" - which could be a hint to his becoming the apprentice of Gormogon. So on rewatch it does actually make sense, however heartbreaking it is. Also goes to show how well written the show is. Also, Zach lived with Hodgins which would explain why his neighborhood came up, because Zach had boiled the skull at home, at Hodgins's estate.

Any idea when we can expect more Bones? Been really enjoying rewatching it with you!

I feel like it fits. Because when Pickering from the state department came in and was questioning him this was a concern they had. Because he is so rational that someone could use “logic” with “proof” and convince him which is what Gormagon did. There a plenty of small hints and clues when you rewatch. And have time to process and work it through. I was angry the first time I watched it. I was shocked and I was angry. Loved your reaction

Yeah, it made no sense to me at first, but when I rewatched this season, there were definitely hints.

I honestly think the whole Zack thing had potential to be better, IF we the audience got to see him working for Gormagon for months, while the team didn't know. Maybe that's just me! I get why they'd want to do it this way for the whole shock value, BUT that's a risky move taking a beloved character and essentially "turning them evil" over ONE episode. It's a lot to throw at your audience all at once. Giving the audience time to actually A. See him doing evil deeds, and B. Get our heads round it before the team themselves found out, might of made this easier to understand and accept.

I at least would have liked to see Zack working on the mandable making his master a new set of teeth

To me, Zach definitely fit the mold for what happened.. like people have said... He is the most impressionable person in that group of people.. and he (in my opinion) had the least character development of all the major characters.. EVERY other character had a connection to something, or someone, AND we were always seeing other sides of them.. Most of the time Zach wasn't shown, or if he was, it never looked like he knew how to really interact with anyone... Being a very secluded person where everything was about science and logic.. it made sense that he would've been the one that got brainwashed to believing some crazy thing.. With Brennan we have seen her character steadily come out of her shell and connect with more and more people AS well as being more social and putting herself in a more social environment. With Booth, we've seen relationships and connections build between him and Brennan, a history with Cam, and also he seemed to work really well with everyone. With Angela, she started a relationship with Hodgins... Whereas, with Zach, we never saw him really break out of his shell, we never really saw his character develop relationships and his character was a full on mystery outside of the Jeffersonian.
