Chapter 50: Night Hunt

The little girls gathered around Léa and sat down. Léa took out a crystal from her waist pouch, emitting a rich soul aura.

"Ah! It's food!" The little girls' excited eyes were brimming with greed.

With food in hand, the little girls finally stopped chattering and obediently began absorbing the soul from the crystal.

"Speak up, who are you guys?" Léa, after handling her sisters, looked at Li Pai and Blanche sitting opposite her.

The Red Reaper gaze is not filled with hostility, but it wasn't exactly friendly either. She’s cautious, after what happened to them, she doesn’t trust others easily.

Blanche glanced at Li Pai. deciding to leave it up to Li Pai to decide whether to speak or not.

‘Me and Blanche are not strong enough to kill the queen before dawn…’ Li Pai pondered quickly. ‘But this girl seems to be strong, so I need to win her over.’

"You're a Monster Hunter right? Have you heard about the news? The bounty for the Specter that killed Princess Snow White?” Li Pai asked with a smile.

"I know about that." Léa replied indifferently. "But I'm not interested in the bounty that woman put up."

Almost all Monster Hunters within the imperial city knew about the Princess news and the bounty that was being put out. Léa had heard of it too. If it weren't issued by the queen, Léa might have been interested.

"The news about her death has been hidden, in truth, Snow White wasn't killed by a Specter," Li Pai continued. "It was the queen who killed her. She cursed Snow White with the most vicious curse, turning her into a Specter."

“Then, the queen claimed that this Specter is the one who killed Snow White, causing the Princess to be able to do nothing but flee into the forest in panic.”

Li Pai's vivid storytelling quickly caught Léa's interest. Léa was naturally empathetic, and upon hearing the Princess' plight, she felt a bit of sympathy, considering something similar had also happened to her sisters. But she soon realized why Li Pai was mentioning Gongzhu's story at this moment.

"Could she be?" Léa looked at Blanche.

"Yes, although I often call her Blanche, her real name is Snow White, the Princess of the Sunset Kingdom.” Li Pai felt the timing was right and revealed Blanche's identity.

"Your Highness," Léa nodded in acknowledgment. Due to the queen's actions, Léa had always harbored hostility towards the royal family. But Blanche's ordeal had changed her perspective. Similar experiences brought the two closer, and Léa's guard lowered slightly.

"Miss Dubois," Blanche returned the gesture. "So... what about you? Who are you?" Léa looked at Li Pai. Blanche was a princess, but what about this guy's identity? Since he’s accompanying a princess, then this man's identity must also be extraordinary.

"It's a story that goes back many years ago..." Li Pai began weaving a tale of his background. He couldn't exactly say he was just a player who got sucked into the game.

"One night, that woman passed by my home and took a liking to my younger sister. My mother was brutally killed by her, and my sister…... to her death…... I, being young, managed to escape by hiding under the bed…... From that day on, I swore to seek revenge against that woman…..."

Li Pai improvised a backstory for himself. He couldn't reveal himself as a player. "Ah... you've also suffered..." Léa sighed softly. After confirming Blanche's princess status, Léa's suspicion towards Li Pai diminished. His improvised story wasn't questioned.

"In fact, I am a prophet. The reason I brought Blanche here is because I foresaw that these children would be in danger." After explaining his background, Li Pai began fabricating his Class. As a player with a system, the role of a prophet seemed quite reasonable.

=

"So that's it!!!" Léa exclaimed. "You risked your life to save my sisters— I'm truly grateful!" Léa bowed again. This explained why Blanche and Li Pai were here. It was because of the prophecy!

However, Léa still had some doubts. Li Pai seemed to have no connection with her sisters. Why rush over here upon foreseeing danger for her sisters?

Li Pai noticed Léa's puzzled expression.

‘This girl is still suspicious, I have to keep convincing her!’

"We came here not just to save your sisters," Li Pai said solemnly. "It's because I foresaw that only by bringing the princess here can we find a way to kill the queen!"

"Really?!" Léa's whole body shook in surprise. Killing her Mother? Would that even be possible?

It’s something that Léa had spent years dreaming of! But she’s now the Queen of the Sunset Kingdom, moreover, she’s a powerful witch and has a cunning mind; killing her would be extremely difficult. Despite years of striving to improve her strength, Léa still lacked confidence to even survive if she were to fight her..

"Do you really have a way to kill her?" Léa leaned forward, her face filled with anticipation. Li Pai caught a faint scent of blood mixed with Léa's fragrance, quite pleasant.

"My prophecy shows that from now until dawn is the best time to kill the queen," Li Pai said earnestly. "As for the specifics... the prophecy isn't that detailed. But I believe the prophecy guided us here, and we'll surely find a way." Li Pai kept perfecting his fabrication.

"Before dawn?!" Both Léa and Blanche were startled.

This was too rushed! They wanted to kill the queen, but in their minds, it was a distant goal. Suddenly saying they had to kill her before dawn left them bewildered.

"Yes, before dawn is the best time!" Li Pai's tone was firm, not at all like he was making it up. But Li Pai knew he had no plan at the moment; he was completely bluffing.

"When she discovers your existence, most people's first thought is how to evade or resist her pursuit," Li Pai continued. "But we're doing the opposite, choosing this moment to assassinate her, she'll definitely be caught off guard when we arrive!"

"But... with just the two of us... Can we really kill her?" Léa was skeptical.

"Just the two of us?" Li Pai paused.

Who was being excluded? Him? Although he’s just a harmless Specter, he’s still confident that he can help them distract their enemies while they are in a fight!
