Chapter 5: Unlimited Food

After buying groceries for dinner, Okinaga and his family returned home.

Aoi busied herself with household chores such as cleaning and laundry, while Yuji went to his room to handle the paperwork for the swimming school.

Okinaga, on the other hand, retreated to his room to contemplate the abilities he had discovered today.

It was clear that the god had thoughtfully added some extra features to his abilities, but the additional elements were surprisingly powerful.

While he felt that the god might have overdone it, he couldn't deny how incredibly convenient and practical these features were.

"Well... I did wish for a convenient 'item box,' after all..."

Okinaga had no complaints.

In fact, he felt almost guilty for receiving such incredible abilities.

"Still, since I've received it, I'll use it gratefully. Thank you, god."

He clasped his hands together and offered a silent thanks to the god.

Then, he reopened the list to further examine his abilities.

"Let's organize this. First, anything 'retrieved' into the 'item box' instantly becomes unlimited in quantity."

To test this, he tried "retrieving" items like a picture book and a tissue box from his room.

Just like the previous items, these too became unlimited in quantity.

"This is seriously convenient. Now I'll never run out of tissues, and I could sell the picture books to a used bookstore for some money. But... increasing money like this is dangerous."

Of course, if he "retrieved" a ten thousand yen bill, he could have unlimited wealth, but that would be akin to counterfeiting.

Using such money would be too risky. While a criminal might not hesitate, Okinaga wanted to avoid trouble as much as possible.

"Besides, with this ability, I'll never have to worry about food. That's more than enough."

For example, if he lived alone, food expenses would likely be his biggest expenditure.

With this ability, that cost would become nonexistent.

Additionally, household items would only need to be purchased once, making this an incredible boon.

"The 'erase' function means I won't need to worry about trash disposal either."

Typically, households need to sort their trash and take it to designated disposal areas.

With this ability, he could erase trash without the need for sorting.

"And then there's the 'restore' function, which is incredibly powerful."

To test it, he felt a bit guilty but tore the cover of a picture book before "retrieving" and "restoring" it.

Afterward, he took it out, and it was as good as new.

"I can't even begin to describe how useful this is. If there's something I want, it doesn't matter if it's used or broken."

Even broken electronics could be restored to new.

It was truly a remarkable ability.

So, he decided to "retrieve" everything in his room, only to take them out and put them back in place.

Although not everything he retrieved was immediately necessary, it could all come in handy at some point.

While having unlimited air conditioner remotes or this year's calendars might seem pointless, he could always erase them if needed.

"Hmm, but everything is ranked 'F'."

The items in his room varied in price, from nearly worthless to moderately expensive furniture.

Yet, they were all ranked 'F'.

"Maybe the rank isn't based on monetary value..."

With that thought, he began "retrieving" various items around the house while ensuring Aoi didn't notice.

Each item was immediately taken out and put back in its place.

However, when he retrieved the TV, he realized it had been connected to various cords and devices.

He hurriedly reconnected everything to ensure the TV would work, being as quiet and quick as possible to avoid attracting Aoi's attention.

After finishing his retrieval mission, he was about to return to his room when Yuji emerged from his office, heading towards the bathroom.

Okinaga seized the opportunity and swiftly sneaked into Yuji's room.

Inside were various high-end items like a luxurious table and chairs, workout equipment, and a computer.

He intended to "retrieve" these items too.

However, he noticed that the computer was on.

(It’s better not to touch the computer. It would be suspicious if it suddenly shut down.)

Moreover, Yuji seemed to be working on it, and Okinaga didn’t want to risk losing any data.

He decided to wait until the computer was not in use.

He quickly retrieved only items that wouldn’t cause any issues if taken.

For larger items that couldn’t be put back in their original place, he opened drawers and retrieved only their contents.

Not wanting to linger too long and risk being caught by Yuji, Okinaga decided to wrap up his mission.

But just as he was about to leave Yuji’s office and head back to his room, he was caught off guard.

"Oh? Okinaga?"

"Huh?"

Standing there was Aoi, carrying a load of laundry.

(Darn, I’ve been found—!)

He panicked, realizing his infiltration mission had failed.

"You know this is Dad’s room, right? Were you playing a prank or something?"

She scolded him with a slight pout.

"S-sorry... The door was open, and I got curious."

"Well, you shouldn’t. This is Dad’s room, after all."

It seemed he wasn’t in too much trouble.

He let out a sigh of relief just as Yuji returned from the bathroom.

"What’s going on?"

Aoi briefly explained the situation to Yuji.

"I see. Well, there’s nothing dangerous in there... Oh, you didn’t touch the computer, did you?"

"N-no, I just took some chocolate!"

Indeed, there was a basket of chocolates and candies on the table.

"Haha, that’s fine then."

Yuji chuckled and ruffled Okinaga’s hair before heading back to his room, still laughing.

"Were you hungry? Oh, do you want to have some ice cream we bought yesterday?"

"R-really?"

Though he wasn’t hungry and didn’t particularly want ice cream, he thought it best to go along with Aoi’s suggestion.

So, he went to the living room with her to have some ice cream.

He had wanted to "retrieve" the refrigerator too, but decided against it, recalling the issues he had with the TV.

The refrigerator was plugged in behind it and squeezed between the wall and a cupboard, making it difficult for a child to plug it back in.

Taking advantage of a brief moment alone, he "retrieved" a cup of ice cream before taking one out to eat.

After their snack time ended, Okinaga finally had the chance to relax and review the items he had retrieved in his room.
