Chapter 27: Cultivating the Lin Family’s Own Alchemists

Led by Lin Weiquan, the group soon arrived at the pavilion where the Lin family stored its spiritual herbs.

The moment they stepped inside, a rich aroma of medicinal herbs wafted through the air.

“This pavilion is the Lin family’s sole spiritual herb repository. It’s structured like a pyramid and has six levels. The first level stores low-level, lower-grade herbs, the second level stores low-grade, mid-level herbs, and so on. The sixth level holds our mid-grade, upper-level herbs.”

“However, our Lin family has shallow foundations. Currently, we have only one mid-grade, upper-level herb and a mere five mid-grade, mid-level herbs. We do have a decent number of mid-grade, lower-level herbs, but as for low-grade herbs, we have more than enough to go around.”

“By the way, what level of alchemist might this friend be?”

As Lin Weiquan guided Lin Zichen and Xiao Yi around the pavilion, he introduced the layout and inventory while stealing a curious glance at Xiao Yi, a hint of anticipation flashing in his eyes.

After all, even among low-grade alchemists, there were levels of distinction.

Each grade represented a significant gap in skill and capability.

“Senior, I am a low-grade, upper-tier alchemist and can refine almost all low-grade pills available on the market,” Xiao Yi responded promptly, not daring to show any disrespect to his master’s grandfather.

Hearing this, Lin Weiquan’s eyes flickered with surprise before a delighted smile appeared on his face.

From Xiao Yi’s attitude alone, Lin Weiquan could infer much about the situation.

Yet, his initial enthusiasm quickly gave way to a calmer demeanor.

While treating subordinates courteously was wise, being overly warm—especially given their dynamic—might reflect poorly on Lin Zichen within the powerful faction backing him.

After all, Xiao Yi, as talented as he was, was still just a low-grade alchemist.

In that mysterious faction, Xiao Yi was likely an unremarkable figure.

“Xiao Yi, from now on, you will stay here. There’s an alchemy chamber nearby. If you need herbs for pill refining, report to the pavilion elder. As for the refined pills, hand them over to my grandfather. I’ll let you know if there are any special instructions.”

“Understood, Young Master.”

Xiao Yi nodded without hesitation.

Seeing this, Lin Zichen didn’t say much more and promptly left the spiritual herb pavilion.

“Grandfather, could you have the people working in the spiritual fields step aside for a while? I’ve recently acquired some additional land.”

“What? Oh, of course, I’ll handle it right away.”

Lin Weiquan froze momentarily, then excitement surged through him. With a series of nods, he quickly dashed toward the family elder overseeing the spiritual field cultivation.

Not long after, the entire valley was cleared, leaving only Lin Zichen and Lin Weiquan behind.

“This valley is roughly 3,000 acres in size. After accounting for the area occupied by buildings, there are still 2,000 acres of free space. Placing the 100-plus acres of spiritual fields I have here will be more than sufficient.”

Surveying the valley, Lin Zichen quickly decided on the locations for the fields.

The 10-acre mid-grade field was placed adjacent to the previously installed mid-grade field, while the 100-acre low-grade field was arranged around other low-grade fields to form a vast spiritual farming zone.

Rumble...

With a trembling of the earth, the total 110 acres of spiritual fields suddenly materialized under Lin Zichen’s control, appearing before Lin Weiquan’s astonished eyes.

Even though he had witnessed this miraculous feat before, Lin Weiquan’s face still betrayed deep shock.

"Creating space from nothing, summoning worlds from a sleeve…”

“Such abilities are the stuff of immortals.”

“H-How did you acquire so many spiritual fields?” Lin Weiquan couldn’t help but draw a sharp breath, his voice tinged with awe.

As the dust settled, Lin Weiquan looked out over the dramatically transformed valley and couldn’t help but take a deep breath.

Previously, the Lin family had only 10 acres of mid-grade spiritual fields and a few dozen low-grade spiritual fields. Now, after Lin Zichen’s efforts, their total acreage had more than doubled. This tremendous leap in resources instantly elevated the Lin family’s foundational strength to a new level.

Once they converted these fields into tangible power, it would only take a few years for the Lin family’s overall strength to skyrocket. At that point, rising to the rank of a second-rate power would be just a matter of time.

“Good, good, truly excellent! Zichen, you’re the Lin family’s blessing. With these fields, our family finally has the foundation to cultivate its own alchemists,” Lin Weiquan said, his voice trembling with excitement.

He had waited far too long for this day.

Lin Weiquan’s mind wandered to memories he could never forget: painstakingly growing a rare herb, only to sell it for a few lower-grade spirit stones. Moments later, the buyer would refine that same herb into a pill, selling it at ten or even a hundred times the price. People would clamor for the pills, while the Lin family received barely a pittance for their efforts.

From that moment, Lin Weiquan had resolved to create Lin family alchemists.

Unfortunately, the family’s limited resources had held him back. Though they owned a few dozen low-grade fields, most of the yields were consumed to support the Family’s cultivation needs. The remainder was far too little to attract a reputable alchemist, let alone supply the resources necessary for refining pills.

Things had started to change after Lin Zichen provided the family with 10 acres of mid-grade fields.

Even so, the low-grade alchemists in Qingfeng City were already aligned with other factions, and Lin Weiquan hadn’t dared to reveal the valley’s changes. He could only pin his hopes on cultivating talented family members to accumulate enough experience to eventually produce a low-grade alchemist of their own.

But before those plans could take shape, Lin Zichen brought back a low-grade, upper-tier alchemist—a completely trustworthy one at that.

The sheer relief and joy of it were indescribable.

“Grandfather, I’ll be taking my leave now. I’ll leave the management of these fields to you, the expert,” Lin Zichen said with a playful smile, noting his grandfather’s elated expression.

“Make sure to put these fields to good use. Your grandson has a growing need for spirit stones,” he added cheekily.

Lin Zichen wasn’t joking—his expenses were skyrocketing.

Now that the Lin family had two Master level cultivators, it was only a matter of time before they gained a third. Once that happened, the family would officially ascend to second-rate power status. At that point, the cost of his simulations would increase tenfold.

To make the most of his resources, Lin Zichen planned to run as many simulations as possible before the third Master emerged.

“Don’t worry, leave it to your grandfather!” Lin Weiquan patted his chest confidently. Field management was his specialty, and he wouldn’t disappoint.

“Oh, by the way, I have a little over a hundred lower-grade spirit stones on hand. If you need them, feel free to take them.”

With that, Lin Weiquan pulled out a small bag, bulging with spirit stones.

Lin Zichen hesitated for a moment but quickly accepted the bag with both hands.

“Thank you, Grandfather,” he said with a smile.

“Bah, no need to be so polite with your grandfather!” Lin Weiquan chuckled. “All right, I won’t see you off. Just come visit me here when you have time for a chat.”

He handed Lin Zichen a jade token that granted unrestricted access to the valley.

From now on, Lin Zichen could come and go freely.
