Volume 3 Chapter 107 / Chapter 274: Yun Tianchong Silver Core

A crescent moon hung in the center of the night sky, its icy light illuminating a small town nestled in the forests of the western borderlands.

In a second-floor room of the town's inn, the silhouette of a young man bent over his desk, writing, was cast against the paper window.

Dressed in a thin white robe, Ye Anping sat at the desk in his room, his face full of worry. His brows furrowed as he stared at the heavily marked-up sheet of paper in front of him, his eyes betraying a hint of helplessness.

The Shadowmoon Sword Sect incident had just come to a close, and the upheaval in the Central Region’s Overclear Sect was about to begin. Yet, this looming event wasn’t what was troubling him now.

The Overclear Sect upheaval, though a pivotal mid-point in the game’s main storyline, wasn’t unmanageable. With prior experience from the Chi Dragon Mansion and Shadowmoon Sword Sect incidents, devising a plan was simply a matter of time and effort—a task with clear steps to follow.

What truly weighed on his mind were the unpredictable matters. For instance…

The wedding with his junior sister.

To Ye Anping, marriage was simple: as long as two people truly loved each other, the ceremony didn’t need to be elaborate. However, he knew that if he treated it as a mere formality, his junior sister might not say anything outwardly, but she would surely feel hurt deep down.

He had initially planned to accompany Feng Yudie back to Profound Star Sect and then take his junior sister to visit Hundred Lotus Sect to meet his parents and officially get engaged.

The idea seemed straightforward, but the execution felt as daunting as drafting a complex strategy. After all, he had no prior experience with weddings.

Moreover, weddings in this world were far more elaborate than in his previous life. From the preliminary rites and dowries to selecting an auspicious day, every little detail required adherence to tradition. Even returning to his junior sister’s mortal family to meet her parents was no simple matter.

Still, those challenges were manageable with time and effort.

The most vexing problem, however, lay in delivering the invitations.

Ye Anping stared at the list of names that filled the entire page and felt a wave of exhaustion wash over him.

"My father’s side would have about twenty people. My mother’s side isn’t small either. They can handle their own invitations. As for my side…”

He began counting on his fingers, feeling an ever-deepening sense of dread.

Senior Sister Bai must be invited—she had supported him before.

Elder Wang and Elder Qi from Profound Star Sect, who oversaw his and his junior sister’s entrance trial, had to be invited as well.

Elder Qin and the others were also essential, as they had mentored him and his junior sister.

Should he invite Sima Xuanji? If so, would the invitation address her as the sister of Xiao Yunluo, given that she had hidden her true identity from him?

What about Xiao Yunluo herself? Or Li Qianjin? Or the Yun sisters?

And Feng Yudie… Forget her. This needed to be kept from her entirely, or handled after the fact. Otherwise, there’d be no wedding at all. If pushed to the brink, Feng Yudie might very well storm the wedding.

“What I thought was a simple matter is actually…” Ye Anping sighed, setting down his brush and rubbing his temples. He turned to look at the crescent moon outside his window.

Suddenly, a series of thuds came from the next room. Instantly on alert, Ye Anping remembered that the neighboring room was occupied by two itinerant cultivators with only Qi Refining Realm cultivation.

After a moment of hesitation, he leaned against the wall and listened closely.

"Darling~~ Darling~~"

"Haha… Husband, is your strength only in calling me? Use some effort, won’t you?"

“… …”

Ye Anping was speechless. Encounters like this weren’t uncommon when staying at inns. It was strange he hadn’t heard anything while writing—this inn’s soundproofing must be quite decent.

Come to think of it, in the past month and a half, they had been traveling constantly, with little time to rest. He hadn’t even had a chance to ‘lecture' his junior sister properly.

Since this inn had decent soundproofing…

Ye Anping hesitated for a moment and muttered, "Feng Yudie should be asleep by now, right?"

Still doubtful, he carefully gathered the marked-up papers and burned them in the corner lamp. Moving quietly to his room door, he opened it just a crack to peek outside.

And saw Xiaotian’s face.

It was as if Xiaotian had been waiting by his door all along. The moment he peeked out, Xiaotian flashed a mischievous grin.

『Anping~ Why aren’t you sleeping so late? Where are you going? Hehehe~~~』

“… …”

Creak—

Ye Anping’s lips twitched as he closed the door as if nothing had happened, feeling utterly speechless.

He had forgotten about this little pest. Why wasn’t it resting in Feng Yudie’s soul realm at this hour? What was it doing outside his room?

"Forget it. Sleep."

With his mood thoroughly ruined, Ye Anping turned to head to bed. But Xiaotian phased through the door and noisily exclaimed, 『Ah! Don’t ignore me!』

Ye Anping gave it an unimpressed look. "What are you doing outside my door at this hour?"

『Well…』 Xiaotian blushed slightly but quickly shook its head and said, 『I was just thinking… after that golden vixen drugged you, you’ve got experience now, right? The book says once a man has had his first time, he can’t resist a second… and a third…』

Ye Anping’s expression was blank. "So?"

『I was worried you'd sneak out to visit... improper women,』 Xiaotian murmured, fiddling bashfully with its fingers as it floated onto Ye Anping's shoulder.

『I can understand, though. You're seventeen now—at the peak of your youthful vigor. Having those... needs is normal. Especially after your first time, it's only natural to crave a second, and keeping it all bottled up isn't healthy…』

"Hmm…" Ye Anping squinted at Xiaotian's shy demeanor.

Xiaotian tilted its head innocently. 『So, why not let Yudie help... to adjust things for you?』

“… …” Ye Anping's face remained expressionless.

『I could tell her it's good for both of you. She always listens to me, so she'll agree without realizing it! Then, before you know it, hehe, hehe~~』

What?

Watching Xiaotian giggle like a pervert, Ye Anping frowned and narrowed his eyes. "Is this your idea of a servant’s loyalty? Trying to trick your master into someone else’s bed?"

『But you're my master too!』 Xiaotian protested, blushing furiously. 『And Yudie’s of age as well. It’d be good for her to relax—healthy even! Not to mention your yang energy’s been overflowing…』

Ye Anping rolled his eyes. "First, I’m not interested in her. Second, I’m... incapable of feeling that way about her. Lastly, she’s not as gullible as you think."

『Wait, what’s that second thing?!』 Xiaotian gawked in disbelief.

"In my eyes, she’s like a living goddess. Who in their right mind would feel lust for a goddess? Knocking on wood a hundred times wouldn’t be enough to atone for that kind of karmic debt."

Xiaotian froze, clearly struggling to comprehend. 『No way— Yudie’s so adorable! Pale, soft, and delicate—who wouldn’t like her?』

Sighing, Ye Anping decided the topic had run its course. "Enough. Did you really wake me up in the middle of the night to talk about this?"

『Well, nighttime is when you have heart-to-heart chats,』 Xiaotian said matter-of-factly, fluttering its wings. 『If it’s that much of a problem, you could handle it yourself, and I’ll just watch!』

What?!

"… Why would you watch?"

『Well…』 Xiaotian hesitated. 『You're right. I’ll just step out instead.』

It darted through the wall, leaving Ye Anping momentarily relieved. But as he looked up, he caught sight of Xiaotian's head peeking down through the ceiling.

!!

Meeting Ye Anping’s glare, Xiaotian smiled awkwardly. 『Haha… I swear I’m not watching. Totally not watching…』

It disappeared back through the ceiling, leaving Ye Anping utterly exasperated. He rubbed his temples, realizing that, moving forward, he’d need to watch out not just for Feng Yudie but also for Xiaotian when discussing anything meaningful.

Just then, the faint call of an eagle echoed outside the window.

Ye Anping perked up, ears straining. Then came a loud bang and Feng Yudie’s distressed shout:

"Ow!"

The soundproof walls of the inn typically muted noise, so the fact that her voice carried meant something serious had happened.

Without hesitation, Ye Anping summoned his spiritual sword from his storage bag, pushed open his door, and rushed toward Feng Yudie’s room. He kicked down the door, which had been latched shut.

Boom!

"What’s going on?!"

Inside, he saw a sizable hole in the window. Feng Yudie had fallen out of bed, and a chubby bird was pecking furiously at her forehead with its beak.

Crash!

With one swift motion, Feng Yudie grabbed the bird and slammed it onto the floor.

"Where did this stupid bird come from?!"

Ye Anping glanced at the bird and, realizing what it was, let out a breath of relief. Stowing his drawn sword, he approached to calm the enraged Feng Yudie.

"That’s Yun Jiujiu’s swift eagle, a courier bird capable of flying three thousand miles in a day."

Feng Yudie froze, staring dumbly at the round, ball-like creature. Her expression was filled with doubt.

"This... is an eagle?"

"It’s been overfed and gotten a bit... chubby," Ye Anping explained, crouching down to retrieve a small package and a message tube tied to the bird's leg.

Opening the tube, he read the note written in Yun Jiujiu’s spirited calligraphy:

"Feng Yudie, I kicked off your master’s enemy’s ‘bird’, Yun Yiyi and Doctor Zhang from the Shadowmoon Sword Sect worked together to cut it off completely. Take it to your master’s grave as an offering. I said I’d help you get revenge, and I always keep my word!"

What?!

Ye Anping blinked at the message, then glanced at the small, oil-paper-wrapped package. He swallowed hard.

What had just happened?

If he understood correctly, Yun Jiujiu had… kicked off her father’s dick… And Yun Yiyi had enlisted the Shadowmoon Sword Sect’s physician to finish the job?

Ye Anping was utterly stunned. He hadn’t anticipated this turn of events, let alone the ruthlessness of the trio toward their shared enemy.

This development was entirely outside his calculations. The potential fallout was impossible to predict.

In the game, Yun Tianchong had died during his attempt to break through the Void Return realm after retreating into seclusion. But with this incident, it seemed unlikely he’d attempt such a breakthrough now.

And, remembering Feng Yudie holding Yun Tianchong’s portrait earlier, Ye Anping couldn’t shake the feeling that something was amiss. After all, the game never explicitly stated that the man who had tricked True Immortal Tai Xu was Yun Tianchong.

Feng Yudie tilted her head and asked as she noticed Ye Anping standing frozen, "Young Master Ye, what does Jiujiu’s letter say?"

Ye Anping handed her the letter and replied, "She’s avenged your master."

Feng Yudie’s eyes widened as she quickly took the letter and read it. Confused, she muttered, "Really?"

She hastily unwrapped the package Yun Jiujiu had sent along with the letter. Inside was a glass bottle containing a bloody, unrecognizable lump of flesh.

"What... what is this?" Feng Yudie scrunched her face in discomfort. "Is this the ‘bird’?"

Ye Anping sighed, raising an eyebrow. "Surprise? Weren’t you always asking me about the ‘bird’?"

"But on the way here, Xiaotian told me birds were cute," Feng Yudie said, scratching the back of her head. Frowning, she added, "It even said it would convince you to show me the real thing."

What?

Ye Anping froze at her words and turned toward the doorway, where Xiaotian was peeking in.

When Xiaotian noticed Ye Anping’s gaze, it quickly shrank back, stammering, 『S-sorry!!!』 before fleeing in panic.

Ye Anping pursed his lips, already plotting how to deal with Xiaotian. But considering it couldn’t be hit or caught, he sighed in defeat.

After pondering for a moment, he looked at the glass bottle in Feng Yudie’s hands and suggested, "Take it back and place it at True Immortal Tai Xu’s grave as an offering. But don’t throw it away afterward. You could use it to refine medicine or even feed it to a spirit pet if you get one in the future. This thing should have significant medicinal value.

"If you want, you could ask Big Brother Zhuang to sell it on the black market. A silver core from a Divine Transformation Realm cultivator would be priceless. If it makes it to a major black-market auction, it could probably fetch a million. Though, Big Brother Zhuang would likely take a hefty cut of the profits."

"Oh…" Feng Yudie stared at the glass bottle in her hands for a while, her expression conflicted. "It still feels uncomfortable. It doesn’t feel right not taking revenge personally for my master."

"Be grateful you could avenge him at all. Your master’s enemy was a Divine Transformation Realm cultivator. If you’d gone on your own, you wouldn’t even have gotten close."

Feng Yudie pouted, her tone slightly petulant. "I know that’s true, but… it’s still frustrating."

"Get some rest. We have a long journey tomorrow."

Ye Anping grabbed the fat bird and tossed it out the window.

Thud—

The bird failed to take flight and landed in the street below with a heavy sound.

"... …"

Ye Anping leaned out the window, glanced at the unmoving bird, and then, deciding he couldn’t be bothered, turned back to head to his room.

As he was about to step out of her room, Feng Yudie suddenly called out, "Young Master Ye, thank you."

Hmm?

"Thank me for what?" Ye Anping turned, puzzled. When his eyes landed on the glass bottle in her hands, he felt awkward and waved dismissively. "If you’re going to thank anyone, thank Yun Jiujiu."

Feng Yudie watched as Ye Anping closed the door behind him. She let out a soft sigh.

Though Ye Anping had said otherwise, she couldn’t shake the feeling that he must have planned this all in advance. After all, he always seemed to account for everything.

"Ye Anping’s a guy, but he’s not like how Master said men are supposed to be," she murmured.

He doesn’t lie to me. He’s always so kind and even helped me avenge my master.

Looking at the silver core of Yun Tianchong, Feng Yudie blinked and said to herself, "Hmm… Could it be that Young Master Ye is actually a woman at heart? Otherwise, why doesn’t he seem as bad as Master always said men are?"

After tucking the glass bottle into her storage bag, Feng Yudie jumped back into bed. She wrapped herself tightly in the quilt, and before long, drifted into a peaceful sleep.
