Chapter 142: A Flustered Lin Langyue

Nanfeng City.

Yue Jianli slowly opened her eyes and found herself lying in a bedroom at Qiuyue Pavilion.

A woman’s voice came from beside her. “You’re awake?”

She abruptly sat up, only to see Qin Ruyan sitting nearby, looking at her with a complicated expression.

Sweeping her gaze around the room, Yue Jianli asked, “Where’s Li Ran?”

Qin Ruyan shook her head. “I don’t know. He hasn’t returned yet.”

“How long has it been?”

“One day.”

Yue Jianli immediately got out of bed, grabbed her sword, and was about to rush out.

Behind her, Qin Ruyan’s voice rang out. “There’s no need for you to go.”

Yue Jianli stopped in her tracks and turned back with a frown. “What do you mean?”

Qin Ruyan said, “While you were unconscious, I already went back to look for him. He…”

“What happened to him?”

Yue Jianli clenched her sword tightly, her fingers turning pale from the pressure.

“He disappeared.”

Qin Ruyan’s voice was low. “I searched within a hundred miles but found no trace of him at all. It was as if he had vanished into thin air.”

Her usual seductive tone was completely gone.

After ensuring Yue Jianli’s safety, she had returned to the Ten Thousand Mountains immediately, only to find the area completely deserted.

“A person as powerful as Holy Son Li would never be in danger. Maybe he has already returned to his sect…” Qin Ruyan seemed to be trying to comfort herself.

Yue Jianli shook her head. “Impossible. If he had defeated Gan Ye, he would’ve come to find me first. There’s no way he would leave without a word.”

At this point, she no longer cared about hiding their relationship.

After thinking for a moment, Yue Jianli asked, “What about the others? Gan Ye, Lin Langyue, Bai Jiangye?”

“They’re all missing as well,” Qin Ruyan replied.

That was what puzzled her the most.

Judging from the scene, an intense battle had undoubtedly taken place, but regardless of the outcome, there should have been some kind of evidence left behind. Yet, there was nothing.

“I’m going to find him.”

Without another word, Yue Jianli turned and walked out the door, taking to the sky immediately.

She hadn’t flown far when she heard the sound of wind rushing behind her. Turning back, she saw Qin Ruyan following closely.

“I’m coming with you,” Qin Ruyan said.

Yue Jianli didn’t say anything, only increasing her speed.

The two figures shot toward the Ten Thousand Mountains at breakneck speed.

Inside the Sealed Chamber.

Lin Langyue slowly woke up, her vision still hazy.

She felt completely refreshed, all her exhaustion gone. That had been an incredibly comfortable sleep—

As if she had been sleeping in her own bed.

Wait— a bed?!

Lin Langyue’s eyes snapped open.

She found herself lying on Li Ran’s large bed, the pillow still carrying traces of his scent.

Li Ran sat opposite her, a small sandalwood table in front of him. A tiny stove on the table crackled softly.

He picked up a teapot and poured tea into a cup, filling the air with a rich fragrance.

“Oh, you’re awake?” Li Ran said casually.

Lin Langyue: “…”

Realizing what had happened, she scrambled up in a panic, hurriedly retreating to the corner of the room.

Flustered, she stammered, “W-Why am I in bed?!”

Li Ran shrugged. “You weren’t sleeping comfortably, so I carried you over.”

“C-C-Carried me?!”

Lin Langyue’s face turned scarlet.

Li Ran chuckled. “Why are you so nervous? You’ve lost all your cultivation. If I really wanted to do something, why would I wait until you were asleep?”

Lin Langyue shook her head. “I know you’re not that kind of person. I just…”

She was simply too overwhelmed.

The Central Heaven Sect was a sect of all female cultivators, and she had rarely interacted with men.

Now that they were alone in the same room, Lin Langyue was already feeling uneasy. But waking up in his bed? That was something she was struggling to process.

Li Ran spoke up, breaking the awkward silence. “Don’t just stand there. Have some tea.”

Lin Langyue hesitated for a moment, then forced herself to suppress her anxiety and sat across from him.

She looked at the setup before her and asked curiously, “I can understand carrying a bed around, but what’s with the table and tea set?”

Li Ran replied nonchalantly, “The storage ring has plenty of space. You never know when something might come in handy.” As he spoke, he poured her a cup of tea.

“See? It’s coming in handy now. Try my tea and tell me how it is.”

Lin Langyue nodded and lifted the cup to take a sip—

Only to forget that she no longer had her cultivation.

The scalding tea burned her lips, making her yelp in surprise as she almost spilled the cup on herself.

Seeing her flustered reaction, Li Ran couldn’t help but chuckle. “Langyue, I have to say… I think I prefer the current you.”

“Prefer…?” Lin Langyue was taken aback.

Li Ran nodded. “Before, you were always so aloof, like you were looking down on the world from above. Now, you seem much more… human.”

Lin Langyue frowned slightly. “I seek the Path of Detachment. To others, that might seem distant, but it was never my intention to be ‘high and mighty.’”

“Path of Detachment, huh?” Li Ran smirked. “Sounds pretty fancy.”

Lin Langyue explained, “There are countless paths to the Dao, each different from the other. The way of the Central Heaven Sect is to transcend emotions and pursue absolute fairness. There is no superiority between paths.”

“Transcend emotions?”

He had heard Leng Wuyan say something similar before, and Yi Qinglan seemed to follow the same philosophy.

Li Ran couldn’t help but sigh. “To be truly above emotions is the highest form of detachment… but failing to grasp emotions is the lowest. The heart’s desires are what drive people like us.”

“The heart’s desires are what drive people like us?”

Lin Langyue was stunned, falling into deep thought.

After a moment, she nodded. “Holy Son Li, you are indeed extraordinary. With just a single sentence, you’ve revealed such profound insight into the Dao.”

Li Ran shook his head. “That wasn’t my own saying. It was something Gan Rong once said.”

“Gan Rong? Who is that?” Lin Langyue asked, intrigued.

“He was from the Jin Dynasty— Never mind, you wouldn’t know him anyway.” Li Ran waved his hand dismissively.

“Oh.”

Silence fell between them.

The two quietly sipped their tea.

The fragrant steam curled up, adding a sense of warmth to the otherwise small and enclosed chamber.

Ming Yuan had been quite thoughtful in setting up this restriction—it not only sealed the room but also ensured proper air circulation, keeping the space fresh.

Just as Lin Langyue was starting to relax—

Gurgle

A soft sound broke the silence.

Li Ran frowned. “What was that?”

Lin Langyue clutched her stomach, her cheeks flushing crimson. “S-Sorry… that was my stomach.”

After an intense battle followed by hours of sleep, she was absolutely famished.

Li Ran suppressed his laughter, keeping a straight face. “Ah, I see. I thought a cuckoo bird had flown in.”

“A cuckoo bird?” Lin Langyue was puzzled.

At that moment, her stomach let out another loud gurgle—this time, the sound eerily resembled a bird’s call.

“Ahhh!”

Her face burned even redder as she shot up and scurried into the corner.

Li Ran chuckled and shook his head.

Since when was she this easily embarrassed?
