Chapter 14: My Lady?

Li Pai held an oil lamp in one hand and the Teddy bear in the other, his crossbow aimed ahead, as he cautiously stepped out of the Mistress bedroom. The hallway was unusually quiet, and the eyes in the paintings seemed to be staring at Li Pai, sending shivers down his spine. After confirming that the compass didn't react, Li Pai slightly quickened his pace.

When he reached the staircase, Li Pai felt a strong pressure coming from the attic. Even the flame in the oil lamp dimmed a bit. The Teddy bear in his hand trembled slightly, seemingly afraid of something.

"If only this little thing could talk," Li Pai murmured to himself. "At least then I'd know what's in the attic."

He couldn't just leave without checking it out. However, he needed to be cautious, as he had already been unconsciously drawn towards the attic once before.

Suddenly!

The compass on his chest started vibrating madly, and the Teddy bear in his hand was frantically flailing its limbs. Li Pai snapped out of his trance. He realized that he had unknowingly taken steps towards the attic, having climbed several stairs.

Sweating profusely, he wondered, "What just happened? How did I...?"

Quickly regaining his composure, he retreated from the staircase. It was terrifying—being controlled like that. Fortunately, he woke up in time; otherwise, he couldn't imagine what might have happened.

Li Pai wiped the sweat off his forehead using the Teddy bear and adjusted his emotions. The Teddy bear looked puzzled but Li Pai ignored it and bit his tongue while heading downstairs.

As he went downstairs, he didn't encounter any unusual situations. When he was about to reach the second floor, he paused. On the second floor, there was a female ghost and the monster whose finger he had severed. It was getting dangerous to keep going like this.

Li Pai contemplated his options, and then he decided to send the Teddy bear ahead to explore.

The Teddy bear protested, but it had no choice. Captured and held in Li Pai's hand, it couldn't escape and reluctantly went to investigate the situation in the corridor.

After a quick glance, the Teddy bear didn't notice anything abnormal, so it signaled to Li Pai that it was safe to proceed downstairs.

Li Pai nodded, feeling more at ease, and walked to the second-floor landing. As he was about to put his foot down, the compass on his chest suddenly trembled. He saw a white figure slowly materializing not far away—the female ghost!

The female ghost's eyes turned cold, and her black hair extended like tentacles, rapidly racing along the walls towards Li Pai.

"Wasn't she just calling me 'dear' a moment ago? Now she's changed her tune?" Li Pai couldn't help but curse in his mind.

The Teddy bear patted Li Pai's arm, urging him to hurry downstairs. However, the approaching black hair was almost upon him.

Li Pai quickly jumped down seven or eight steps in one leap, avoiding the attack. The black hair lashed out but missed, wrapping around the air instead.

After landing safely, Li Pai glanced back. The black hair seemed to be restrained by something, stopping at the corner of the corridor, not pursuing him any further.

Li Pai's chest compass gradually calmed down, leaving only a slight vibration. He breathed a sigh of relief.

However, at that moment, a sharp butcher knife suddenly appeared behind Li Pai, silently resting on his neck. The handle of the knife was gripped by the middle-aged female caretaker named Leck.

Feeling the cold touch, Li Pai realized the danger he was in. "Don't act rashly, I'm not your enemy," he said, raising his hands slowly.

"Mistress... Mistress!" the female caretaker Leck suddenly exclaimed.

The butcher knife "clattered" and fell to the ground.

Li Pai turned around and saw Leck looking shocked. When did he become her Mistress? Did this female caretaker have some peculiar habits?

The Teddy bear in Li Pai's hand suddenly waved its limbs, and Li Pai looked at it, then back at the female caretaker. A thought flashed through his mind. "Could it be... this Teddy bear in my hand is the owner of this house, Miss Elora?"

Li Pai recalled the events. The Teddy bear seemed to know a lot about what was happening here. It acted agitated when he tried to take advantage of Elora's body. It all made sense now!

The female caretaker had been staring at the Teddy bear the whole time, which seemed to confirm Li Pai's suspicions.

"Why is my Mistress in your hands?" Leck asked cautiously.

Li Pai wasn't sure what to say. "Let's sit down and talk," he said, looking at the Teddy bear. The Teddy bear nodded in agreement.

Leck silently put down the knife and suggested, "Let's go to the living room."

Li Pai held onto the Teddy bear and followed Leck to the living room. There was a fireplace burning, providing ample light and a hint of warmth. Compared to the coldness of the second and third floors, it was much more comfortable.

After sitting down, Li Pai looked at the dark red tea in the cup in front of him, hesitating to touch it. He remembered that he felt drowsy after drinking the tea before, and he couldn't afford to sleep here; otherwise, he might end up being slaughtered.

Leck noticed his reaction and assured him, "There's no drug in it this time."

Li Pai was taken aback by her straightforward admission of the previous incident.

"We can chat about whatever you want," Leck continued. "But before that, can you please let go of my Mistress?"

She glanced at the Teddy bear in Li Pai's hand.
