Chapter 8: The Purest Motivation

At 6:30 AM, in front of the school gate...

With the heat of exercise still lingering on his face, Chen An arrived at the entrance of northern primary school as usual. Although there was a considerable amount of time left before the first bell rang, small groups of students had already gathered at the gate.

Of course, the street vendors had arrived even earlier. Some small shops had already set up shop, displaying an array of colorful snacks on their stands. Mobile vendors had also pushed out their carts, offering items like rice noodle rolls and fried rice noodles for just a dollar each, which seemed to be extremely appealing to the kids.

Some of the nearby shops were playing animated cartoons and using stimulating audio and visuals to attract the young ones to their stores.

But the true customers of these shops were still at home, lazily brushing their teeth and washing their faces while their parents urged them on. They estimated it would still be about ten minutes before they would arrive at the battlefield.

The early-bird students hadn't yet entered the school; they were being held outside by the locked gate. Everyone was used to this by now. These eager young learners held their textbooks and recited ancient poems "in mosquito-sized voices" while facing the closed gate.

However, no matter how much they loved learning, these immature children couldn't possibly understand the meaning of ancient poetry. For example, in the case of the poem "Shi Hao Li," which had a melancholic narrative, they recited it as an old woman raising her fists and violently beating Shi Hao Li. Wait a minute!

Chen An paused for a moment, following the childlike voices to find the student who was reciting "Shi Hao Li." This poem was usually taught in eighth grade, and which mischievous brat would voluntarily start studying this early? They usually enjoyed sleeping in. Were they already hitting the books this early?

In no time, he found his target amid a chorus of recitations. Under a linden tree, he spotted a young student who was engrossed in reciting and studying, even this early in the morning. Coincidentally...

"What a coincidence."

Leaning on a textbook that read "Chinese," with an illustration of a galloping horse, the curious girl looked at the boy standing in front of her, "Are your parents the kind who wake you up even when you're sleeping soundly and force you to study?"

"I don't want to discuss this topic with you."

Chen An took a deep breath, raised his eyebrows, and sternly asked, "Why did you do that?"

"Well... Are you talking about the scribbles in the textbook?"

Lu Li hesitated for a moment, then shook her head, "This textbook is one I found. I didn't draw the illustrations. Look, there are other people's signatures here."

Saying that, Lu Li flipped her textbook around to show Chen An the illustrations that another person had drawn.

"I'm not referring to that... Oh, wow, the drawing is pretty good."

Looking at the masterful depiction of an old woman attacking Shi Hao Li with full force after making a few scribbles with a ballpoint pen, the powerful fist-raising motion and the fierceness of her attack had a certain charm reminiscent of Kenshiro's "fist of the north star."

"No, I’m not referring to that, hear this, before you came to this school, the worst person at northern primary school was probably just a sixth-grader hiding in the restroom smoking stolen cigarettes from their dad. But you alone have raised the crime rate at northern primary school to more than a hundred percent! Before I can control you, I must first understand... Why did you do this?"

"Why?"

Lu Li tilted her head slightly, "Why are you asking me why? My seatmate, didn't you secretly breathe a sigh of relief when you saw Hua Long Cram School explode? Weren't you glad that your precious summer vacation wouldn't be ruined by those stubborn adults?"

"Uh..."

Chen An had initially wanted to say that he would be spending a pleasant summer vacation at a rural farm stay, but he refrained from mentioning it to avoid upsetting Lu Li.

"For three years, I haven't had a single proper summer vacation. All my free time has been filled with various tutoring classes. I've talked to my parents over and over again, but they still treat me like a child and ignore me. I hate them. I hate them for forcing me to learn calligraphy, English, and those aristocratic etiquette classes that are worse than dog poop... I've had enough!"

Lu Li struck the railing next to her with a fist, gritting her teeth, "I swear, I'm going to have a summer vacation without being overwhelmed by tutoring classes! If it takes making all the tutoring centers explode for this wish to come true, then so be it!"

"Uh, have you ever thought about something?"

Chen An looked at the girl before him, brimming with resentment, and couldn't help but rub his forehead, "You now possess the power to cause death. It's highly likely that someone could lose their life due to your rash actions."

"Uh... death?"

Lu Li's eyes showed a hint of confusion, "Are you saying that because of what I did, someone could turn into a star in the sky?"

Damn it!

Chen An helplessly looked at the elementary school student before him who couldn't even fully comprehend the concept of death. He could only nod and say, "Yes, they would become stars, and they wouldn't be able to come back to the ground and meet the living anymore."

"Are you saying... I don't need to blow up tutoring centers every summer, just this once, and there won't be any more tutoring centers in the world?!"

Lu Li's eyes lit up with joy.

"..."

Chen An facepalmed. How was it possible for such a naive and slightly foolish evil intent to coexist?
