Chapter 6: Like a Knight

Elementary school is three years long, middle school is five years long, and high school is seven years long.

After completing the three years of elementary school, one's placement in the next level of middle school is determined based on the results of the Appraisal Day. After five years of middle school, at the age of thirteen, everyone takes the entrance exam for Cradle Academy. Passing the exam grants admission to Cradle Academy, and failing it means finding another high school to attend.

Or one can choose not to continue their education.

Compulsory education in the country only requires completing middle school. After middle school, one is free to make their own choices.

There are many types of high schools—business schools, film and television schools, military academies, adventurer schools, technology schools, magic schools—basically, whatever school you're interested in.

Of course, if you can't pass the exams, that's your own issue.

Each school has its own entrance exam date. Graduates from middle school can participate by presenting their graduation certificates. Passing the entrance exam grants admission, failing it means trying other high schools' entrance exams.

And if you can't pass any of them—well, tough luck, just try to live on and be strong.

However, for me, there's no need to worry about how to survive.

Even though I, Night, might be mediocre, the female me, Yue, is a bona fide beauty with wealth. Couldn't she just take care of me, Night, and let me live comfortably?

Hmm? Embarrassing?

What's embarrassing about supporting oneself? What's embarrassing about spending one's own money? It's just a matter of taking care of oneself.

Anyway, I never worry about the future because I have security.

Let the female me, Yue, work hard and I, Night, can just take it easy.

Of course, even though I'm taking it easy, I still have to attend school.

Whether or not I attend a high school doesn't matter, but I have to go to middle school.

If I don't, Mom will spank me.

It's not great being only eight years old; I don't have much autonomy.

So, I attended an ordinary middle school, living an ordinary life.

This kind of life is actually not bad.

—If only I could ignore that black-haired loli on this day.

The location is the mansion of the town's baron.

Fair, smooth skin; hair as dark as the night sky; eyes like emeralds - at a glance, she was a dreamy fairy-like girl. That is, if she wasn't trying to climb from the second-floor window onto a tree branch.

Once again, the location is the mansion of the town's baron.

I pass by this place on my way home from school, so seeing it is quite commonplace.

However, an extraordinary event happened all of a sudden.

I was walking along the path and casually glanced into the yard enclosed by black railings.

I swear, I absolutely just took a careless glance inside.

—And I saw a black-haired loli trying to move from the second-floor window onto a tree branch.

If that was all, I wouldn't have cared much. After all, everyone misbehaves at times, and I didn't plan to get involved in the actions of unrelated people.

—But the problem was that she didn't step properly and exclaimed in surprise as she fell from the window.

She desperately grabbed onto the tree branch with her hands, her legs dangling, a look of fear on her face. Her delicate hands were getting looser, and it seemed like she was about to fall.

Could I notify someone in the mansion in time?

If I had time, I wouldn't have jumped over the fence.

Fortunately, even though I'm mediocre, I have a skill from the female me, Yue - Magic Enhancement LV.4.

Using LV.4 Magic Enhancement with my LV.5 magic manipulation, I can increase my overall abilities by around 200%. Even if she's just a child, a 200% increase is not to be underestimated.

So I quickly flipped over the fence, ran towards the black-haired loli in a rush, and just in time, caught her as she fell. I rolled backward to cushion the impact, and inevitably, she ended up pinning me down.

"Ah..."

The black-haired loli, recovering from her terrified state, seemed to realize she had been rescued. She lifted her face from my chest, sat up, straddled my waist, stared at my face blankly for a moment, and then—her eyes gradually started to shine.

"Just like... a knight..."

I swear, if I could go back in time, I would definitely just mind my own business today.
