Chapter 38: Let's Play a Game

After finding common ground with the little girl, Élise's attitude towards Snow White improved significantly. The black aura around her had completely dissipated. Other than her two pitch-black eye sockets, Élise now looked like an ordinary little girl.

At the same time, Li Pai also received a system prompt.

"....I don't know how to help you guys, our mother has put a curse on us, me and my sister can’t leave this cottage," Élise wanted to shrug but was too lazy to raise her hand. She and her six sisters were cursed and restricted to this cottage. They couldn't go out, so how could they help deal with the old witch?

"Well..." Li Pai stroked his chin, lost in thought. This little girl seemed to be so lazy that she probably didn't know much. If he wanted to further make progress, he would have to find her sisters instead. But... her sisters might not be as easy to deal with as she was.

If they rashly approached any of the other spirit, they could very well end up torn to pieces.

'Let's wait here for a while, the other spirit girl said that she would come back soon, with her sister heere, it should be easier convincing her to help us' Li Pai thought for a moment and made a decision.

Li Pai looked at Élise.

"Élise, why do you like playing on the wooden horse so much?" Li Pai asked.

"Because it's fun," Élise replied with her head tilted to the side. Due to her laziness, she rarely left her room. The only things she could play with were the wooden horse and the blocks on the floor.

"Haven't you played anything else?" Asked Li Pai, curious.

"No..." Élise sighed. "When my sisters and I were alive, we were kept in separate rooms and rarely saw each other. I could only play on the wooden horse by myself."

"I see, In that case, let’s play a game together!! Do you know how to play '123 Wooden People'?" Li Pai patted Élise's head. "123 Wooden People should be the perfect game for someone as lazy as you. You just need to sing facing the wall and occasionally turn your head  to look."

"Ah! Really ? How do you play it?" Élise suddenly became interested, her little hands clasped in front of her excitedly.

"You face the wall and start singing. You can stop at any time and turn to look behind you," Li Pai explained. "That big sister and I will start walking from the other end of the wall. If the singing stops, we have to freeze in place, or else..."

"Or else I’ll kill you both, right?" Élise interrupted with enthusiasm.

Li Pai's face twitched.

“No, there is no killing in this game, if you turn your head around and we still move, that means we lost.”

“How is it? Do you want to play?” Li Pai asked.

"I want to play, I want to play!" Élise nodded enthusiastically. Although it was a bit disappointing that she couldn't kill them if they lost, it was much more interesting than playing on the wooden horse. The extremely lazy Élise actually took the initiative to run to the wall.

Li Pai looked at Snow White and gestured with his eyes for her to join the game. Snow White furrowed her brows. There is no way a princess like herself was going to play such a childish game with a bunch of dead children.

Li Pai goes to her side and leaned his head down, he then let out a whisper, making sure that Élise can’t hear his word.

“Just go along for now, I'm doing this for you!"

After hesitating for a moment, Snow White finally nodded.

The room filled with Élise's song, and the three of them began playing "123 Wooden People." A few minutes later, a cold laugh suddenly echoed in the room. Li Pai turned around and saw the little girl who had been there earlier.

She had finally arrived.

"You're actually enjoying such a childish game..." Charlotte sneered.

"Sister Charlotte, come play with us!" Élise excitedly invited Charlotte. "This game is a lot of fun! I don't even have to move!"

"I'm not interested..." Charlotte replied coldly. "Little Élise, I think you've played enough," she continued, her gaze turning indifferent as she looked at Li Pai and Snow White, as if they were food.

"Sister Charlotte, you can't eat them!" Élise immediately spoke up. "These two have also been cursed by our mother! They said they came here to ask us to help them beat her together.”  Élise explained.

"What!"

Charlotte's body visibly trembled. That woman... to her and her sisters, that woman was like a demon. They dreamed of killing her. Only by killing her could the curse on them be completely lifted, and they could be like normal souls, free from their chain and torment.

"Élise, don't joke around!"

"Over the years, even our eldest sister has tried her best to improve her strength, but she still doesn't have enough confidence to face that woman. What kind of thing can these two weaklings do? They only said those words just to escape being eaten by you!”

Charlotte frowned. After learning about the shared experience between her and the two weak spirits from Élise, Charlotte's desire to kill Li Pai and Snow White had diminished somewhat, but she still looked down on them.

For so many years, they had been unable to resolve their issues with that woman and break free from the curse. Perhaps having some new perspectives could lead to a solution.

"Little Élise said that you have similar experiences to us, how can you prove that?" Charlotte was much more rational than Élise and kept her composure. Before engaging in a deeper conversation, she needed to confirm the identities of these newcomers.

Li Pai gave Snow White a meaningful look.

Snow White looked helpless, but she had no choice. The black resentment along her long hair slowly emanated.

This was the curse placed on Snow White. It prevented her from touching sunlight and amplified all sorts of negative emotions in her.

Charlotte sensed the curse on Snow White and confirmed Élise's words. Indeed, this big sister had also been cursed by her mother. In comparison, the curse on this big sister seemed to be even more severe than theirs was. It seemed that her mother power had increased over the years.

This means that dealing with that witch would be harder than she originally thought.
