Chapter 46: Where Did This Specter Come From!
With confidence, Carter continuously pulled out various strange items from his backpack, shifting from defense to offense, and attacking Blanche. Carter was a Level 4 Monster Hunter, equipped with various tools and backed up by his allies, which instantly boosted his confidence and momentum.
Blanche's long hair fell like drifting leaves, piece by piece. Fortunately, the sun had already set, allowing Blanche to fully unleash her strength. Otherwise, facing such a powerful Monster Hunter, Blanche might not have been able to endure this level of exhaustion.
Suddenly, another crossbow bolt whizzed through the air.
Splut!
The crossbow bolt accurately hit Carter's backs.
"Damn!"
"Where are you aiming?"
Carter raged, turning around to scold the shooter. Even if they were allies, they shouldn't be shooting so recklessly! He had finally managed to turn the tide of the battle; he didn't need any more chaos!
Unfortunately, he didn't know where the archer was. After a few curses, he removed the arrowhead and continued to engage in combat with Blanche, who had black long hair.
Swoosh, swoosh!
Two more bolts whistled through the air.
Silver bolts were heading straight for Carter's backs. This time, Carter realized the problem.
‘Damn it! Does this Specter have help?’
Carter twisted his body, narrowly avoiding the bolts. His face grew darker and darker.
The first arrow and the second might have been accidents or poorly aimed, but the following two arrows made Carter understand completely.
This wasn't a case of poor aim!
It was too accurate!
These arrows were clearly aimed at him!
With this person lurking in the shadows, Carter couldn't focus on dealing with the Specter.
"Captain Jason! Cover my back! We can win if we fight together!"
Carter shouted to Jason, who was approaching on horseback. Jason was wearing full armor and could protect him from any attacks from behind, allowing Carter to concentrate his energy on the Specter.
But what he feared the most happened: Jason, the coward, rode his horse away directly.
In his armor, Jason reached the horses and took out a dark red wooden box from a bag strapped to the horse's back. After opening it, a heart appeared inside the box.
This was given to him by the Queen herself.
At first, Jason didn't understand why he should bring this with him. However, when he saw Blanche, he instantly understood.
This must be Blanche's heart!
The Queen must have done something to it, allowing Jason to use it to deal with Blanche.
Jason held the box and ran towards Carter and Blanche.
"Hahaha, we've got this in the bag!"
Jason arrived by Carter's side, excitedly shouting.
"What's that?"
Seeing Jason coming to support him, Carter felt relieved. Although he didn't know what Jason was holding, if it could make him so excited, it must be something significant.
"This Specter is as good as dead!"
Jason reached into the box and pulled out the heart. Black mist surrounded the heart, similar to the resentment emanating from Blanche.
"This is..."
Carter's eyes lit up. With his extensive experience, he immediately guessed that this must be the heart of the Specter before him.
"It would be great if a witch could do something to this heart. It can definitely cause significant damage to this Specter."
Carter said as he swung his sword, cutting through the black hair around them. Many Specters had a lifeline, and destroying it would inflict significant damage on them. This heart might not necessarily be the lifeline of this Specter, but with some witchcraft treatment, it could still be effective.
"Hehehe..."
Jason laughed.
A witch?
Her Royal Highness, that was one powerful witch. The fact that she could make him bring this heart here meant she had made thorough preparations. Jason was full of confidence.
Inside the red wooden box, there seemed to be a peachwood nail. It was quite obvious!
Blanche's expression changed. She knew that this was her own heart. That wicked woman must have done something to her heart. Blanche immediately exerted all her strength, trying to snatch the heart back. Unfortunately, Carter's strength was formidable, and his defense was impenetrable. Blanche couldn't break through his defenses in an instant.
"Jason, hurry!"
"I can't hold on much longer!"
Under Blanche's fierce assault, Carter was under immense pressure.
Jason smiled and took the peachwood nail from the red wooden box, then tossed the box to the ground.
"Die!"
Jason held the peachwood nail and thrust it towards the heart. Suddenly! A shadow flashed by! Just as the peachwood nail was about to pierce the heart, it suddenly disappeared! Jason's momentum decreased, but he still thrust downward.
Splut!
The palm of Jason's hand was unprotected by armor, and the peachwood nail pierced through.
"Ah!!!"
Jason cried out in pain, looking at his own hand. The location where the peachwood nail had penetrated was covered in black lines spreading up his arm. Clearly, it was a curse from the Queen. Fortunately, this curse was targeted at Blanche, so it didn't harm Jason severely.
"What's going on! Where did the heart go!"
Jason was bewildered and looked around. Just a few steps away, a young man was holding the heart with a smile on his face.
"Damn!"
"When did this guy show up!"
Jason lifted his visor, his eyes filled with anger. How could someone sneakily snatch the thing they were after? Jason was the captain of the Queen's guards and had some strength. If someone got close, he should have noticed it. There was only one explanation: the other person was a Specter!
"Carter, aren't you a top-notch Monster Hunter?"
"Why didn't you warn me that there is another Specter!"
Jason shouted at Carter.
"How would I know! My compass didn't give me any signal either!"
"I think he’s not just a newly died Specter!"
Carter was also a bit frustrated. If they had known it was a Specter approaching suddenly, he could have easily detected it by the compass's fluctuations. Who would have thought it was just an ordinary Specter? Something that a Monster Hunter could crush like an ant with a mere flick of their finger, had ruined things at such a critical moment!
"Ah! The hidden arrows from before were this guy's doing!"
Carter realized, his eyes flashing with anger. The arrow that hit his backs earlier was from this guy!
‘That trap earlier is also his!’
Carter figured it out. This guy could wield a crossbow, indicating that he had materialized his hand. So, he must have set the traps too. That damn guy! If it weren't for his traps, Bonnie wouldn't have died! How could they be so passive now!
"Jason, take this sword and finish that guy off!"
Carter quickly drew a thin sword from his back and tossed it to Jason. Now was not the time to vent their anger. As an excellent Monster Hunter, Carter was well aware of the current situation. As long as there were no crossbow arrows disturbing him, he would not be at a disadvantage. Jason, on the other hand, specialized in dealing with soul entities, so there was no way he couldn't handle an ordinary Specter.
