Chapter 10: Squeeze Him Dry
The engagement had already been announced, so Orkney had long been prepared. By the time Lot and Morgan returned, most of the necessary ceremonies and arrangements were nearly complete.
Lot and Morgan had not stayed at home for long before many nobles from Camelot, having received invitations, arrived at Orkney.
And on this particular morning, the most important guest of the wedding finally arrived.
As soon as Lot got up that morning, he heard his butler reporting to him in an official tone:
"Your Majesty, the King of Camelot, Princess Morgan’s father, King Uther, has arrived at the gates of the castle."
Morgan’s father, Lot’s future father-in-law, and the ruler of Camelot, King Uther, had finally arrived after a long journey.
"Ah, I see," Lot responded, hesitating for a moment before nodding.
His emotions were a bit uneasy.
This was his first time meeting his father-in-law, both in this life and his previous one. If he didn’t make a good impression, who knew what consequences might follow?
With such thoughts running through his mind, Lot slowed down his pace as he dressed.
He had always dressed himself.
It wasn’t because of some noble principle or an aversion to being served—no, the real reason was that all the maids in his castle were tough and strong, the kind who could carry heavy loads with ease. Having such maids help him dress felt less like a noble being attended to and more like a mother dressing her little son.
So, he had firmly refused their assistance.
Now, alone and unsure of how to face his father-in-law, Lot was slowly putting on his clothes.
Eventually, he finished dressing.
A white, intricately embroidered undershirt, fitted trousers, and—since he was meeting his father-in-law—no knight’s armor today. Instead, he wore a noble ceremonial outfit adorned with his family crest. His golden hair was neatly groomed, white gloves covered his hands, and he flashed a charming smile, exuding an aura of allure.
He hadn’t walked far inside the castle when he spotted Morgan heading outside as well.
Morgan was also dressed for the occasion—a noble evening gown, crystal high-heeled shoes, and her silver hair neatly styled into an elegant updo, adorned with a black ribbon.
She looked regal, but to Lot, she also looked incredibly familiar and dear.
Seeing him, Morgan immediately spoke up:
"Lot, perfect timing. Let’s go welcome my father together."
"Mm."
Lot nodded absentmindedly.
Seeing his expression, Morgan found it odd.
This guy talks so much in front of me—why is he suddenly acting timid?
As she wondered about this, she suddenly heard Lot’s inner thoughts.
[What should I do? What should I do? Help! Meeting the father-in-law—what’s the first thing I should say? Should I ask if he’s eaten? Or should I ask for his esteemed name? What do I do? Ahhh, this is my first time, I really don’t know what to say!]
"Pfft!" Morgan couldn’t hold back and burst into laughter.
Lot turned to her, his expression slightly annoyed.
Damn, you’re laughing at me?!
Seeing his reaction, Morgan quickly reassured him, "Alright, don’t worry. My father isn’t going to eat you. There’s nothing to be afraid of when meeting him. Come on, I’ll be right by your side—he won’t do anything to you. Besides, he’ll probably be delighted to meet you."
Aside from being incredibly clever, Lot also had an unbelievably handsome face.
Morgan often wondered whether all of Orkney’s good-looking genes had somehow been concentrated into Lot alone. How else could he look this stunning?
He was probably even more handsome than the legendary Diarmuid of Scottish mythology.
Morgan was sure that when her father saw Lot, he wouldn’t have any reason to be upset—if anything, he’d be pleased.
"Mm, alright."
Lot nodded lightly, feeling a little more at ease.
Then, the two of them held hands and walked outside together.
Morgan glanced at Lot again, trying to gauge his emotions.
[Mm, no need to be nervous. Don't be nervous. Morgan is already on my side now, so there's nothing to be afraid of anymore.]
A smile appeared on Morgan’s face.
She had to admit—Lot was truly an interesting person.
Spending her life with him, at the very least, she wouldn’t have to worry about being unhappy.
Of course, it would be even better if he had more ambition.
After spending several days together, Morgan had finally figured out Lot’s personality.
He was incredibly good-looking and undeniably intelligent.
But his laziness? That was on another level.
He had a crystal-clear understanding of the future, yet he rarely took the initiative to do anything about it.
Instead, he focused on making everything around him as refined and enjoyable as possible.
In other words, he was a hedonist.
This part of him frustrated Morgan.
You’re so capable—why don’t you have greater aspirations?!
Morgan felt that her arrival here had one clear purpose—to push Lot to fully utilize his talents.
Building a comfortable life was far too easy for him.
At the very least, he should extend his influence across all of Britain, right?
Come on, Morgan, you can definitely squeeze him dry.
Yes—squeeze every bit of his intelligence and potential out of him.
Morgan held Lot’s hand tightly and led him outside.
<+>
Outside, they were met by a group of knights.
At the front stood two men.
One of them was immediately recognizable from afar—the silver-haired scam artist, Merlin.
The other, a middle-aged man, was presumably King Uther.
[Morgan was a stunning beauty, and her younger sister, Artoria, possessed both beauty and a noble, valiant aura. Their father, naturally, must have been quite handsome in his youth.]
[Though, of course, nowhere near my level.]
Lot smugly thought to himself.
Beside him, Morgan shot him a sideways glance.
Can this guy be any more shameless?
Sure, what he said was technically true...
But still! That’s my father, you know!
Meanwhile, King Uther was observing Lot, and a satisfied expression appeared on his face.
This young man is incredibly handsome.
Stepping forward, Uther spoke to Lot.
"King Lot, I have come here today to entrust my daughter to you. From this day forward, we are family."
Then, noticing Lot and Morgan still holding hands, a teasing smile appeared on his face.
Hearing his words, both Lot and Morgan felt a little embarrassed.
