Chapter 21: Final Preparations Before the Campaign

In order to verify the truth of what Merlin had said, Lot sought out other Court Magus who had accompanied King Uther to confirm it.

The reason for consulting King Uther's Court Magus was to ensure that the king himself was informed. This matter had to be brought to King Uther’s attention.

If King Uther remained unaware and later, during the battle against Vortigern, suddenly realized that his allies had disappeared—what then?

What if Lot hadn’t yet managed to invade Vortigern’s stronghold, and Camelot was lost instead?

If things were reversed and the war was lost, Lot would not only have failed King Uther but also doomed himself.

As expected, the verification with the Court Magus yielded the same results as Merlin had stated.

Upon receiving this confirmation, Lot was naturally overjoyed. After all, who wouldn’t want to gain an extra cheat?

After verifying everything, he went to King Uther and informed him of the entire plan.

Then, he returned to his own castle.

…

The moment he stepped into his study, he called out to Morgan.

"Morgan, come here—I have good news for you!"

However, after speaking, he finally noticed Morgan’s expression.

She was gripping a quill tightly in her right hand, pressing it against the parchment as if she were carving on bamboo with a knife—applying an immense amount of force.

Lot happened to catch this scene.

He swallowed hard.

[Seeing her like this… Am I about to be silenced?]

Morgan put the quill down.

‘This perverted dog—why did he come back so soon?! My elegance—it's all ruined in front of him!’

‘This perverted dog actually thinks I’m going to silence him… Was my expression really that terrifying?’

‘Good thing it was just him. If anyone else had seen me like that…’

‘Then I really would have to silence them.’

Morgan mused to herself.

As for Lot…

"Ahem, Lot, your quill isn’t working properly. I pressed so hard, and the ink still wouldn’t come out," Morgan explained.

"Uh-huh, I see, I see," Lot nodded rapidly, like a pecking chick.

Morgan stared at him, scrutinizing his expression.

After a long moment, she found that his thoughts consisted of just three words:

[Play it safe.]

"Hmm." Satisfied, Morgan finally nodded. Then, she asked, "Right, what was it you were saying when you came in?"

"Oh, it's about that issue I was worried about earlier—I’ve found a solution," Lot replied.

"What?"

Morgan was momentarily stunned.

Wasn’t that just an excuse the perverted dog had made up earlier?

Had he actually gone and solved it?

She had assumed he was just looking for a way to slack off.

Turns out he was actually working.

Walking over to Lot, Morgan admitted sheepishly, "I think I may have misunderstood you just now."

"It’s fine—what kind of man would get upset at his wife over something trivial?" Lot said as he sat down.

Meanwhile, in his mind—

[Hehe, now I can dump all the paperwork on Morgan without it looking like I’m being lazy. I’m just too smart.]

"…"

Morgan massaged her temples.

Sometimes, hearing too much isn’t necessarily a good thing.

"So, tell me again, what exactly were you worried about?"

"I was worried about the enemy magi," Lot explained to Morgan once more.

"And do you have a good way to deal with it?" Morgan asked.

She didn’t fully understand the capabilities of all magi, and if there really was someone who could detect their fleet, it was not out of the question.

"Morgan, my body has a special constitution that perfectly blocks the detection of other magi. If you don’t believe me, try using some detection magic on me," Lot said, wearing a smug expression, practically inviting her to test it out.

Seeing his self-satisfied grin, Morgan didn’t even know what kind of expression to make.

Lot, are you joking with me?

You’re saying you can’t be detected by magi?

But looking at how confident he was, Morgan wasn’t sure how to respond.

Since he insisted on proving it, she might as well shatter his illusion.

‘And Merlin, you bastard, are you deliberately deceiving my perverted dog about magic? After I break his delusion, I’m going to smack you on the head.’

Morgan thought to herself as she activated her detection magic.

"Hmph, with my magic, I can locate you anytime, anywhere—"

Before she could even finish her triumphant sentence, she froze.

Her magic had absolutely no effect.

"I really can’t detect you."

"See? I wasn’t lying to you," Lot said.

Morgan’s astonishment was impossible to hide.

What was going on?

Normally, even without using magic, she could hear Lot’s thoughts—whether she wanted to or not. But now, when she actively tried to detect him, her magic failed completely.

What exactly was happening to Lot?

"You see? I was telling the truth," Lot repeated.

Judging by Morgan’s expression, he knew her magic hadn’t worked.

[Morgan’s shocked face is really amusing.]

Morgan quickly composed herself.

No way was she going to let this perverted dog see her looking surprised.

She was supposed to be the queen who controlled everything.

Showing surprise? Unacceptable.

"Hmm, with you around, our operations should go much more smoothly," she said, nodding in an attempt to appear indifferent.

At the same time, she couldn't help but study Lot carefully.

How was this man so capable?

He seemed to excel at everything, solving problems before they even arose.

‘If only he could think fewer useless thoughts and be a bit more proactive instead of always trying to slack off, that would be perfect.’

Morgan thought to herself.

Yes, it seemed like the task of reforming this perverted dog was still a long road ahead.

…

In the following days, everyone was still immersed in the afterglow of the wedding celebration.

Vortigern had already begun preparing his army. King Uther, too, couldn’t afford to stay any longer—he had to hurry back to Camelot to prepare for the impending battle.

Seizing this opportunity, Morgan urged Lot to recruit both Kay and Artoria as knights.

After they officially became knights, Lot assigned them each a reconnaissance cavalry squad to command.

And just like that, the legendary King of Knights and the future Round Table Knights were now the captains of two scouting teams.

Oh, and Merlin also temporarily remained in Orkney.

On the surface, it was to guard against enemy magi.

But Lot knew the real reason—Merlin was undoubtedly acting under Uther’s orders to protect his two daughters.

After all, if both Morgan and Artoria were wiped out, Uther would have no heirs left.
