Volume 2 Chapter 92: Monster Planet (Part 4)
Across the Earth, new life was being born.
And on Venus, the same was happening.
. . .
In this scorching world, thousands of Ghidorah's Wings soared across the planet’s surface.
Endless thunderstorms raged, with lightning striking unceasingly. The several-hundred-degree atmosphere, stirred by some unseen force, churned into a superstorm that engulfed all of Venus.
Compared to this storm, even the hurricanes once summoned by Kaiser Ghidorah on Earth were nothing more than a gentle breeze.
This storm stretched over 8,000 kilometers in diameter.
Wind speeds reached Category 33.
Its impact force exceeded 100 tons per square meter.
Under such immense winds, even Ghidorah's Wings, whose bodies were denser than conventional materials, could effortlessly glide by merely spreading their wings.
Entire mountain ranges—once towering—were flattened, reduced to barren plains by the sheer force of the storm.
And at the very eye of the storm, in that windless void, something different was taking shape.
Most of these new creatures were flat—like leeches, but firmly pressed against the ground.
Others, however, had massive lower bodies, from which numerous enormous, balloon-like sacs extended—translucent spheres filled with gas.
These "balloons" were not sealed—they could open and close, drifting several hundred meters above the ground, as if hunting for something.
Dozens, even hundreds of these floating organisms, emerged from the hills, forming breathtaking layers across the Venusian sky.
Sunlight, piercing through the storm’s eye, refracted within the transparent spheres, casting rainbow-like hues upon their surfaces.
It was a three-dimensional ecosystem, an aerial landscape unlike anything seen before.
Amidst this breathtaking display, disk-shaped organisms—akin to pancakes—clung to the nutrient-transporting balloons, piercing their surfaces with needle-like appendages to extract sustenance.
In doing so, they were expanding this ecosystem, integrating themselves into the Venusian biosphere.
Unlike carbon-based life, the new organisms on Venus were composed of silica aerogel and specialized silicate compounds.
Even in the relentless 400-degree heat of Venus, their bodies remained stable, unfazed by the extreme conditions.
At the center of this ecosystem were the hills—slowly shifting across the surface, extracting nutrients from the ground.
Once a hill had absorbed enough energy, something remarkable occurred.
One of these crawling hills suddenly stopped moving.
Its root-like tendrils relaxed, releasing their grip on the surface.
It collapsed onto the ground and began a series of actions.
A process that, in familiar terms, could only be described as:
[Reproduction]
Its main body plunged deep into the planet’s crust, its roots burrowing further and further underground.
Above, the floating balloons attached to it rapidly deflated, channeling their stored nutrients downward.
Nearby, several other crawling hills noticed the change.
Upon sensing this, they extended long, flexible tubes from beneath their bodies, searching across the fallen hill’s surface.
Upon finding a specific spot, they connected their silicon-based plugs into the opening—injecting a mysterious fluid.
One, two, a dozen hills participated in this process, each merging with the central organism, filling it with new material.
After several hours, the tubes retracted, leaving the rooted hill to nurture something new.
Something alive.
After a long time, something pentagram-shaped, with flexible limbs, tore through the flesh from where the tubes had been inserted.
It crawled out from the hill’s body—
Then a second one, a third…
One after another, seven or eight of these newborn creatures emerged before the reproduction process finally stopped.
Unlike their massive, stationary parents, these newborn hill beasts had agile five-limbed bodies, capable of movement without relying on underground tendrils.
They licked away the amniotic fluid from their mother’s skin with tiny tendrils, then hopped away, exploring their surroundings.
In time, they too would grow into colossal beings, expanding the Venusian ecosystem further.
As the hill took root, a new species of gas-sac flyers descended upon it.
This was yet another entirely unique form of life—one that had never emerged on Earth.
On Earth, atmospheric density was too low for creatures to rely solely on gas sacs for flight.
But here, on Venus, with its thick, suffocating atmosphere, life was blooming once again.
This alien ecosystem was unlike Earth’s.
No sunlight-fed trees existed here.
Instead, atmospheric lifeforms thrived by feeding on the movement of the air itself.
A new biosphere was taking shape.
Though both this life and the creatures on Earth had been influenced by the same presence, they had now diverged onto completely different evolutionary paths.
Was this merely a precursor to an even more diverse web of life?
Ssshhhhhh——
A wing descended from above, casting an eclipsing shadow over the sky.
And then everything ended.
. . .
At the uppermost layer of Venus’s atmosphere, a colossal entity moved.
Blazing flames pierced through the dense clouds, igniting tremendous explosions that shook the entire planet’s crust.
The thousands of Ghidorah's Wings encircling the entity reeled back in shock.
Why?
Why had that being suddenly decided to end this thriving ecosystem?
This evolution had been far more successful than any previous attempts.
The past experiments had all failed, as the lifeforms couldn’t even survive Venus’s extreme conditions.
But this time, the new species had endured.
Given enough time, they could have spread across the entire planet.
So why was it being destroyed?
In response to their confusion, a wave of thought rippled through the storm’s upper layers—
A single answer swept across them, revealing the truth:
"Silicon alone… cannot surpass us."
"We must go further. The power we have gained must be used on that world."
"We cannot let them take it."
The answer carried a sense of regret, but also determination.
And then, it continued:
"Our kin have already investigated that world."
"It has stabilized."
"A civilization still exists there."
"This is our final chance."
"I can feel it—something is coming from beyond."
"If we do not complete our harvest before it arrives… we will be unable to fight it."
"We…"
"Can no longer run."
Deep within the Venusian storm, the massive Star Beast stirred its colossal form.
And then—
It fell into a deep slumber.
A new stage of evolution had begun.
At over 8,000 meters in length, it had already far surpassed its original form.
But still, the Star Beast would continue to evolve.
It would feed on civilization itself and ascend once more.
