Volume 2 Chapter 109: Destoroyah – Dissection (Part 1)
Sixteen days after the arrival of King Ghidorah, and the first day after the descent of the Exif and the Bilusaludo, deep beneath the surface of England in Europe, at 8,000 meters underground—the European Rift Laboratory.
Ding ding ding ding——————
"Sample from Zone 1 has escaped. All research personnel must evacuate the area immediately and seek shelter on the surface. All personnel evacuate the area————"
The alarm blared loudly—the unmistakable signal for evacuation.
At this moment, the sound had already been echoing for more than half an hour.
Now, within the research facility, not a single person remained alive. All that was left were bloodstains scattered across the floor and a toxic gas permeating the air.
All exits had been sealed. In such an environment, the only elevator, marked as the primary exit, was rapidly descending.
Finally, it reached 8,734 meters below the surface—the level where the underground laboratory was located. The elevator doors opened, and out stepped squads of soldiers equipped with the latest weaponry.
They wore gas-protective helmets and full-body suits. Not even their ankles or fingers were exposed. Every face behind the gas masks was etched with a heightened state of alertness.
They were on guard—guarding against the lifeform occupying this laboratory that connected to another world.
This place had now become a hell.
. . . . . .
Let us rewind to three hours earlier, when no abnormal incidents had yet occurred in the underground lab.
As one of only seven Rift Laboratories in the world—and the only one that had successfully captured and brought back a living being from within the rift world—the European Rift Laboratory was one of the most critical sites in human scientific development. It was also among the first facilities to resume operations following the destruction of King Ghidorah.
Currently, as one of the few places exploring the planet's deepest secrets, this laboratory continued its investigations into the nature of that other world.
Even the Exif and the Bilusaludo knew little about what truly existed or had once existed on this planet.
But humanity did know.
And it was this knowledge that gave Earth’s leadership hope, even after Godzilla destroyed Australia and Ghidorah's Wings laid waste to half of Asia.
After the arrival of the Bilusaludo and the Exif, a wave of advanced technology flooded into human society.
To decode this technology, humanity redirected the efforts of many of its laboratories, suspending existing research to focus entirely on analyzing the alien knowledge.
The European Rift Laboratory was no exception.
Out of over a thousand people working at the facility, nearly half were dedicated to interpreting the Bilusaludo and Exif technologies.
But the other half continued their previous work, even after the aliens' arrival.
Why didn’t they abandon their prior research?
Because what they were working on was just as important—if not more—than deciphering alien tech.
—The dissection of a lifeform from within the rift.
That was their current mission.
It was the only experiment still ongoing in the European Rift Laboratory. All other projects had been suspended.
Right before the arrival of Ghidorah's Wings, the lab’s unmanned exploration units had captured the only known Class D lifeform from the rift world and successfully brought it back.
It was named Destoroyah.
And now, the purpose of this laboratory—was to dissect it.
The Destoroyah specimen brought back was not particularly large. Although it had once destroyed an entire squad of research robots, its body size was only comparable to that of a large dog.
There was simply no understanding of how it managed to destroy so many machines.
The specimen was placed on a sample platform, surrounded by specially reinforced bulletproof glass. Scientists on the outside, using laser scalpels equipped with cameras, first began peeling away its outer carapace.
Its exoskeleton was extraordinarily durable—so strong, in fact, that its hardness surpassed even graphene, which was once hailed as the perfect material.
Under X-ray diffraction, the spacing of its carbon atoms defied all known physics.
The carbon atoms on Destoroyah’s body were arranged in long-chain carbon structures, a form once thought to be impossibly unstable.
Yet on this creature, the impossible had become reality.
Its carapace structure shattered that belief—not only did it possess stable long carbon chains, but the spacing between carbon atoms in these chains was also a mystery.
Compared to the theoretically predicted bond lengths, the measured distances were much shorter.
This completely contradicted existing scientific principles, making Destoroyah a being shrouded in riddles.
Previously, after the specimen had been brought back, the European Rift Laboratory had conducted an initial analysis of it.
Everything discovered from Destoroyah was compiled into a paper, published under the title:
"Destoroyah: An Analytical Report on a Class-D Lifeform from Beyond the Rift."
The paper first described how the European research team studied it.
They began by examining the general appearance of the recovered corpse and proceeded with standard sampling procedures:
Shell samples, blood samples, samples from its oral limbs, and even material from its stomach lining…
Thanks to a massive wound on the specimen’s body, the sampling process went extremely smoothly.
Even the stomach lining was collected directly—no imaging was done beforehand.
Within three hours, the research team gathered eight types of samples, including blood, carapace, stomach lining mucosa, saliva, oral appendages, a corrosive substance found in its mouth, and more.
In total, over 500 individual samples were collected, with a combined mass of more than 100 grams.
After the sample collection, the researchers attempted full-body X-ray scans and ultrasound imaging, hoping to get a better view of Destoroyah’s internal structure beyond the visible wounds.
But unlike the easy success of sample collection, this part of the study failed.
Radiographic scanners couldn’t capture a clear internal image, and the ultrasound data was utterly incomprehensible.
Destoroyah’s outer armor possessed a radiation interference layer and a foam-like structure embedded within it—both of which are still completely indecipherable by human science.
Because of this, neither high-frequency signals nor ultrasound could penetrate its body to reveal internal details. Only at the wound site, where the armor was absent, were researchers able to glean some limited insight.
And even within that tiny window of data, humanity’s scientists glimpsed… a world beyond comprehension.
That’s where the paper ended.
Due to the emergence of Ghidorah's Wings, the planned second-stage analysis of the Destoroyah sample was postponed.
Researchers evacuated the European Rift Laboratory in advance, sealing the specimen away.
Until today.
Now, it has seen the light of day again.
The dissection begins.
