Volume 2 Chapter 119: Godzilla’s Recovery

Australia — 200 meters beneath the coastal edge of the former Perth metropolitan area, a colossal mountain-like being lay dormant.

Thud!

Thud-thud!!

Thud-thud-thud!!!

In the pitch-black underground chamber, the ink-black Godzilla stood within the earth, its lower abdomen rumbling with a thunder far greater than any storm.

Over twenty days ago, it had lost nearly one-fifth of its body, sustaining devastating injuries.

And even after over twenty days of recovery, its wounds were still not fully healed. Many of its bodily functions remained paralyzed.

So this is the price of defeating Kaiser Ghidorah.

In the darkness, Godzilla silently felt the damage throughout its body, while simultaneously sensing, through the Earth-Wide Radar of its awareness, the happenings across Earth beyond Australia.

The arrival of the Exif and the Bilusaludo.

The nuclear explosion beneath Europe.

All of it had been detected by Godzilla's senses, reflected clearly in its mind.

And because of this, it now understood what humanity was preparing to do.

A new wave of attacks was coming.

With a global view, Godzilla “saw” humanity stirring across the continents, amassing forces, gathering nuclear weapons—just like they had done in past wars.

They’ve found me.

When it observed the movements of humanity, Godzilla understood this much: they had located it, and they now wanted to take advantage of its weakened state to make a move.

Perhaps they wanted to eliminate the offspring it had spawned. Perhaps its identical child had triggered their alarm. Whatever the reason, humanity was coming.

And yet... it had lost more than half its combat power…

The injuries from the battle with Kaiser Ghidorah had far exceeded Godzilla’s expectations—both prior to and immediately after the fight when it had just returned to Australia to recover.

Though it had only lost one-fifth of its mass, and theoretically should have healed most of its injuries in these twenty days, the damage was more than just loss of flesh. For example, its fusion reactor had been entirely melted down, yet its weight had not dropped by even a single gram.

Factoring in structural fractures, burned-out fusion reactors, and similar issues, the actual mass it needed to regenerate exceeded half its total body weight. That would require 40 full days—assuming its self-repair mechanisms were functioning properly.

After all, the materials required to repair its body came from synthesis inside the fusion reactors.

But now, with its supplies depleted and the fusion reactors themselves damaged, the regeneration process had naturally slowed. In the past twenty-some days, it had barely managed to restore 4 million tons of mass.

Meanwhile, its body weight had increased to 40 million tons during its fight against the Ghidorah's Wings to enhance its melee strength.

So out of the 20 million tons of damage, 16 million tons remained unrepaired.

Even though its fusion reactor was now restored and its regeneration rate had returned to normal, it would still need over twenty more days to rebuild the rest of its body.

Bad news all around... except for one thing: during this period of recovery, its atomic breath had completed its evolution.

Godzilla “glanced” at its internal status panel. Now, after killing the Ghidorah's Wings and completing its breath evolution, its new stats were worlds apart from what they had been before.

Its atomic breath had evolved to a power level even it hadn’t anticipated—so much so that if one were to take the pre-evolution version of itself and Kaiser Ghidorah, then multiply all their combined stats by ten, even that might still be obliterated in a single strike from the current Godzilla.

This evolution had reached an astonishing degree—one it had previously not even dared to imagine.

However... this newly evolved breath wasn’t particularly useful against humans.

Its destructive power against humans had already been overkill. Even now, with the boost in its breath's power, it was still just overkill. When the enemy only had 100 HP, whatever it can hit with 1.000 attack points or 10.000 attack points didn’t matter, the enemy still ended up dead.

So, it was essentially useless for exterminating humans. But against those aliens from beyond the stars… maybe it would be unexpectedly effective.

Godzilla had seen clearly, with its Earth-Wide Radar, that massive warship several kilometers long.

Even if it were unarmed, that warship’s combat capabilities far surpassed both itself and Kaiser Ghidorah.

If humanity and the aliens joined forces to attack it right now, then it would truly be in peril.

But from what it was observing, humans had not yet allied with either of those alien species. For reasons unknown.

Still, that counted as a rare piece of good news.

If humans were to launch a war against it now…

Godzilla imagined what such a scenario might look like.

Though seriously injured, it still wasn’t something conventional human weapons could destroy. The only method humanity had that could kill it outright was a saturation nuclear strike. Only then would it truly be in danger.

But saturation nuclear strikes within the atmosphere have a limit. The very nature of nuclear shockwaves made it impossible for humans to just pile on endless small nukes. Many of them would be blown off course by the shockwaves of those that detonated first.

So then, how could humans defeat it?

A super-electromagnetic cannon?

Some super-chemical weapon like the Oxygen Destroyer?

Or perhaps several extraordinarily large nuclear bombs?

After much thought, Godzilla concluded that the most likely method humanity might employ was this: construct a few extremely powerful nuclear weapons and set them off.

If nuclear shockwaves made the use of numerous small nukes unfeasible, then they just had to build one gigantic nuclear warhead, whose power equaled the combined destructive force of hundreds or thousands of smaller bombs.

That would work.

Even Kaiser Ghidorah had been gravely wounded after taking a direct hit from its evolved breath attack.

And while nuclear bombs lacked the same energy concentration as that breath, after accounting for energy dispersion, humanity would only need to create a 10-trillion-ton-yield nuclear device and detonate it within one kilometer of Godzilla.

That would absolutely deal fatal damage to it.

Is that what they’re planning?

Godzilla kept monitoring their movements... and finally discovered what humanity was actually preparing to do.
