Volume 2 Chapter 121: Breakthrough

At the same time, ten thousand kilometers away from the operation against Godzilla, in South America—within Eden.

Ludwig, the parliamentary leader of the World United Government, sat in the central hall, listening to his subordinates' reports. They were detailing the final operations of humanity’s last battle.

There was no need to elaborate on the operation plan itself—it had already been meticulously reviewed and verified as feasible by scientists from various regions over the past several days.

Now, with the plan confirmed as viable, the roles of politicians and officials began to surface—not in terms of directly dealing with Godzilla (that was the military’s responsibility), but in positioning themselves. If the plan succeeded and Godzilla was eliminated, they wouldn’t mind stepping up to claim credit. And if it failed...

Then so be it. After all, the aliens were arriving soon.

Whether or not this operation succeeded in killing Godzilla, it was the final attempt. One way or another, Godzilla was doomed. Once the aliens arrived, Godzilla would inevitably perish.

Still, if humanity could eliminate Godzilla before the aliens intervened, it would boost morale and give humans more confidence. It might also allow Earth’s representatives to face the alien visitors with a bit more leverage in negotiations.

Success or failure, Godzilla was destined to die. So their focus should shift to the long term—rebuilding after Godzilla’s death.

That was the main topic of this meeting: how to handle the aftermath and how to pacify the displaced populations, especially those who had fled Australia.

Oh, and also the East Asians.

The evacuation of East Asia had more or less been completed. The Indian subcontinent and South America had taken in large numbers of refugees. Once the local military cleared the remaining Ghidorah cells, the displaced people could gradually return.

East Asia was relatively easier to deal with. But Australia...

That was a much bigger headache.

After all… once the plan was executed, Australia's entire reshaped ecosystem would likely be obliterated. Several former mega-cities would be completely wiped off the map.

On top of that, the poison gas from the Oxygen Destroyer had saturated nearly every inch of Australia’s coastline. Rebuilding the continent would be extraordinarily difficult—probably even more so than rebuilding East Asia.

In East Asia, aside from the cities hit by specific attacks, most of the major urban centers remained intact. Even with the current proliferation of Ghidorah cells, only the smaller towns and rural areas had become extremely dangerous. The major cities, still under military protection, weren’t exactly unscathed, but they could at least be considered relatively secure.

Moreover, no permanent weapons like the Oxygen Destroyer had been used in East Asia, making reconstruction far less challenging.

In fact, whether reconstruction of Australia was even possible remained an open question.

Even with the technological blueprints of both alien civilizations, humanity had yet to find a way to restore the environment destroyed by the Oxygen Destroyer.

Ultimately, even the aliens couldn’t defy the laws of physics—unlike whatever was buried beneath the Earth...

“Mr. Parliamentary Leader, we Australians have suffered deeply during this Godzilla catastrophe…”

“Mm, mm…”

“And so we need the full support of the World United Government…”

“Mm, mm…”

Ludwig nodded absentmindedly. His eyes were half-closed, chin resting in his hands, lost in thought.

The meeting dragged on. Political discussions were never resolved in just an hour or two. But as it continued, the grand doors behind Ludwig were quietly pushed open.

“Sir, there’s an urgent update from the military that requires your attention.”

“Oh?”

Ludwig opened his eyes from his half-sleep. A tablet was handed to him, displaying satellite images.

As he looked at the data on the screen, his expression shifted.

This can’t be…

He took the tablet fully in hand, eyes scanning the feed, his voice tense as he began to issue orders.

“We Australians are not asking for our original land—we’re asking for territorial waters. We earnestly request that the region originally part of the Indian Ocean be—”

“Everyone.”

“We understand Australia’s demands, but with the recent mass awakening of the Bilusaludo aliens, it’s difficult for us to obtain sufficient construction materials in the short term—”

“Everyone!”

“No matter what, the World United Government should at least be able to provide materials for building floating cities. On that point—”

“Everyone!!!”

Ludwig’s voice rose louder with each call. At first, the arguing parties showed no sign of stopping. Their faces had turned red from shouting, and they were too consumed by their own stances to listen to anyone else.

But after Ludwig raised his voice a second time, the participants finally snapped out of their heated quarrel. The room gradually fell silent, and all eyes turned to Ludwig—the Parliamentary Leader of the World United Government.

“Mr. Parliamentary Leader… our apologies. We lost our composure in your presence. Do you have something to say?”

With everyone calmed down and focused on him, Ludwig no longer maintained his earlier casual posture. He sat upright, eyes sweeping across the room, and spoke:

“Just now, I received shocking news.”

“Our enemy—the target of this operation…”

“Godzilla… has voluntarily revealed itself.”

“As for the rest, you should see it for yourselves.”

With that, the massive screen behind Ludwig lit up, displaying an image.

On the screen, a mountain-like behemoth was moving across an endless, barren desert. Each of its steps sent tremors through the earth and sky. Behind it followed a never-ending gale.

The colossal creature moved, then paused, its gaze occasionally lifting toward the heavens. Those intelligent eyes seemed to meet the satellites above. To the council members watching, it felt as though Godzilla was looking directly at them.

“Did… did it spot us?”

An absurd notion flashed through everyone’s minds, only to be quickly and firmly dismissed.

After all, it was just a Monster—no matter how powerful, still just a Monster.

Rather than fixating on the illusion of direct eye contact, they needed to focus on something more important: What was it trying to do?

What was its objective?

The moment the question arose, it was answered.

The answer came from Ludwig, who saw the confusion on the members’ faces.

“According to the military’s assessment… Godzilla is deliberately luring us into a decisive battle in the center of Australia—not in that strange land.”

“The moment Godzilla appeared in satellite view, the strange ecosystem in that part of Australia was already engulfed by a superstorm. Wind speeds at the core exceeded Level 21. The military doesn’t believe missiles can penetrate the storm clouds, and even orbital strikes from space stations would struggle to break through. So they’ve canceled the original saturation bombardment plan.”

“They now intend to strike directly at Godzilla. However…”

“That was ten minutes ago.”

“What’s truly troublesome—and what you all need to know—is what happened afterward.”

“Just three minutes ago, the military confirmed…”

“Godzilla has acquired the ability to break through our encirclement.”

“So, everyone—whatever plans you had for Australia…”

“Will have to wait.”
