Volume 2 Chapter 123: The Power of the Breath
To destroy humanity before the arrival of the extraterrestrials…
Ever since acquiring full awareness of the Earth’s entire surface, Godzilla had understood one thing: that many alien beings had once visited this planet from the stars.
Some of them had arrived before life even began on Earth—making them, arguably, the planet’s original rulers, more qualified than any current lifeform to claim dominion over it.
But those ancient entities still slumbered deep beneath the earth, or under eternal ice caps, showing no sign of awakening.
The most recent arrivals, however, had only descended after Godzilla awoke.
For example, those humanoid creatures with pitch-black skin and rough, jagged exteriors—they only fell to Earth from the Moon after Godzilla’s resurrection.
They differed in appearance, in motive, and in timing.
But there was one thing they had in common:
They were all strong.
Far stronger than Godzilla had once been.
Far stronger than those winged invaders that once descended from the heavens.
In Godzilla’s original plan, if its repair process could go undisturbed, it would slowly dig its way out to the ocean from underground, and before these interstellar visitors fully descended, it would launch a decisive assault on humanity.
Of course, it wouldn’t be able to completely wipe out the human race—after all, Earth’s sky still held countless nuclear-armed satellites. With thousands of nukes raining down day after day, they would surely force it into retreat.
But it believed it could, at the very least, acquire enough power during the purge to make the aliens fear it.
The kind of power that could drag the entire surface of the planet into annihilation with it.
If it could gain that level of strength, then those who sought to colonize Earth would have no choice but to accept that Godzilla could not be defeated. From there, it could gradually expand its own ecosystem, eroding the range of human activity step by step.
And as long as it displayed a certain level of goodwill—or, at least, non-hostility—toward the extraterrestrials, they likely wouldn’t risk everything just for humanity’s sake.
If necessary, they might even turn against the humans.
That… had been Godzilla’s original plan.
But now—
The plan could change.
Its breath attack had become powerful enough that it might be able to exterminate all of humanity before the aliens even arrived.
If it could wipe out humanity before their descent, Godzilla would ascend to unimaginable power. At that point, whether it faced threats from Venus or secret plans from faraway stars, it would still be able to accomplish its ultimate goal with confidence:
Restoring Earth’s natural ecosystem.
Rebirthing the Titans native to this planet.
If it could achieve that, then its mission would be complete.
. . . . . . . . . . . . .
To annihilate all humans before the alien forces fully land…
The temptation was immense.
The power of Godzilla’s breath was no longer something its past self could even compare to.
In the past, its breath had been based on internal fusion—an inward-implosion technique.
It would generate massive amounts of energy through nuclear fusion inside its body, then channel that energy through its mouth and release it as a beam.
This internal-breath method had its benefits:
Godzilla could control the power output with absolute precision.
It could fine-tune the energy level down to the smallest unit.
It could launch multiple beams in rapid succession and sustain its breath for long durations.
And most importantly: it was completely controllable.
But the disadvantages were just as significant.
Godzilla’s breath power had always been limited by its physical durability.
To output one unit of energy, it would often need to burn two, or even more.
Why? Because it had to contain the fusion energy inside its body.
If that energy detonated internally, the result would be catastrophic. So Godzilla had to spend enormous amounts of power to generate ultra-strong magnetic fields, containing the energy and guiding it safely out of its mouth—preventing premature internal detonation.
Yet even so, the massive energy spent creating magnetic fields could only guide the breath for an instant.
In the end, a sustained magnetic field could never contain the rapid, nuclear-explosion-level reactions of fusion. Just guiding the energy to the right exit, for even a brief moment, was already a monumental feat.
Thus, due to both its physical limits and energy constraints, Godzilla’s breath had always had an upper bound.
If its body wasn’t strong enough, it would self-destruct.
If it didn’t have enough energy, it simply couldn’t unleash its breath at full power.
These two factors had long shackled Godzilla’s might… until now.
Until this evolution.
This evolution gave Godzilla a completely new logic for its breath—a mode entirely different from before.
Now, it could spray nuclear fuel directly onto its target, and detonate it on impact.
After all, the main reason Godzilla’s breath had been limited was because of the immense destructiveness of internal nuclear fusion, right?
Then the solution didn’t have to be “make my body stronger.”
Why not just avoid detonating the energy inside the body at all?
As long as the high-purity nuclear fuel is mixed into the breath and detonated externally on the enemy, then—Godzilla’s breath becomes limitless.
With this new method, Godzilla only had to worry about whether it had enough nuclear fuel in storage. It no longer had to worry whether its body could withstand the stress!
If it wanted, Godzilla could pour thousands of tons of high-purity fuel into a single breath, unleashing a super explosion exceeding a trillion tons of TNT equivalent.
Infinite power.
That’s what this evolution had given it.
Before this, even though Godzilla had expected its breath to increase by hundreds or thousands of times, it still didn’t imagine the external detonation would have such a ridiculous energy conversion efficiency.
It had thought it would be lucky if it reached fission-level effectiveness—because detonating nuclear fuel outside the body isn’t easy.
In theory, it required nearly omnidirectional lasers and a power density higher than its own.
Even if it succeeded in detonating the material, there was almost no chance it could ensure a complete reaction—fully utilizing all the expelled fuel.
But now…
Reality had exceeded all expectations.
It was as if science no longer applied—its lasers were somehow igniting the fuel perfectly, resulting in near-complete nuclear fusion.
With this new breath ability, Godzilla could now wipe out humanity in a very short time.
It finally had the means to fulfill its mission.
So…
Should it do it?
Should it begin the extermination now?
. . . . . . . . . . . . .
“Ten minutes ago, in the central wilderness of Australia, Godzilla released that attack.”
South America. Inside the New Eden Headquarter—a pitch-black room lit only by the light of a projection.
On the screen, a towering, mountain-like black beast stood atop a range and unleashed a beam of light into the distance.
That light was blinding, cutting across hundreds of kilometers of Australian plains, crashing into the mountains where land met sea.
Then, the sun vanished.
So did the footage.
The screen went completely white for several minutes.
Ludwig tapped the control panel in front of him, skipping ahead past the blinding section, until the footage resumed in darker tones.
A massive mushroom cloud. Ocean waters pouring backward. A scene straight out of the apocalypse.
Many members of the council began murmuring among themselves.
But they weren’t discussing how to stop Godzilla.
Instead, they were thinking—
Is that it?
Is that all it can do?
Even with all that power… it still can’t get out, right?
Oxygen Destroyers had already been deployed across the entire Australian coastline.
Even if Godzilla could blast away the poisonous mist above the sea, the water itself was still highly toxic.
And Godzilla couldn’t fly.
It couldn’t exactly evaporate the ocean, right?
No matter how strong its breath had become—far beyond conventional nuclear weapons—it was still far too weak against an ocean-wide contamination.
So—
“So just now,” said the official, “Godzilla began moving again.”
“Its destination is the Northern Australian Strait.”
“Estimated time to arrival: two hours.”
“At that point, Godzilla will…”
“Break through our defenses.”
