Volume 2 Chapter 124: Preparation
Detonating nuclear fuel outside the body is no easy task.
Under the high-speed jet, the nuclear fuel rapidly disperses upon impact, expanding at speeds far exceeding that of sound.
In such conditions, triggering a nuclear detonation is nearly impossible. Even if detonation occurs, it would only be partial, with the majority of the fuel blown away.
This is why Godzilla has always had to detonate the fuel internally, using magnetic confinement to release it.
Because externally, especially in the immediacy of battle, the likelihood of detonating nuclear fuel outside the body is extremely low.
But...
This time, evolution has allowed Godzilla to break through that impossible barrier.
Through the use of multiple high-powered lasers and multiple points of discontinuous fusion fuel within the jets, Godzilla has accomplished the impossible.
Now… its physical strength is no longer the limit holding back its destructive power.
It is about to become the undisputed King of Destruction.
On the coast of Australia, a white mist enveloped the shoreline. At the edge of the mist stood a giant beast, its jet-black body hundreds of meters tall like a mountain.
A light appeared at the corner of its mouth, and with a flash that illuminated the entire world—the sea in front of it vanished.
...
“How can this be?! How could Godzilla’s power reach such levels?”
“This is impossible…”
On the display screen, a massive black cloud blanketed the entire area. No matter how powerful the satellites were, they could not gather any information from within.
The high-ranking officials of the World United Government felt as if they were being roasted alive. All the satellites over that region had been completely disabled by the high-intensity EMP, and the remaining satellites elsewhere lacked the resolution to see what was happening inside.
“Sir, the yield of this explosion has been calculated… Turing’s computation estimates the yield at 32.2 billion tons of TNT…”
“SkyNet’s calculation matches as well. It estimates the yield between 32.212 to 32.214 billion tons… SkyNet is recommending immediate evacuation of all coastal cities. According to its model, coastal waves could reach over 100 meters high… the nearest ones will arrive in five hours.”
“Hui has calculated the number of blasts, sir… I’m afraid we’ve lost our Australian defense line. The shockwaves show that this wasn’t a single detonation—but eight. Eight explosions, each averaging over 3.5 billion tons. Given the terrain, Hui predicts that it will take at least six minutes for seawater to refill the eight blast zones…”
“And Godzilla’s land speed exceeds the speed of sound…”
“Based on calculations, this current cleared zone won’t be enough for it to escape the defense line completely, but with a few more blasts—”
“It will break free.”
“Parliamentary Leader Ludwig, we must start considering how to deal with it…”
The conference room descended into chaos. As each supercomputer delivered its results, the situation grew increasingly dire.
“Cease your panic! All of you!”
After a brief silence, Ludwig suddenly roared, his voice echoing through the conference room and momentarily suppressing the surrounding noise.
After his outburst, a moment of silence returned to the room.
Seeing this, Ludwig collected himself, exhaled deeply, and continued:
“Didn’t we already anticipate this outcome?”
Just an hour earlier, during a previous meeting, their science teams and computers had already predicted exactly what was now unfolding.
Which is to say—the current situation.
To prepare for this, one hour ago, Ludwig had already urgently convened a global team of advisors. At the same time, he dispatched envoys to contact the Bilusaludo and the Exif, hoping to ask whether they could lend humanity their aid when Godzilla arrived.
The ultra-heavy nuclear weapons needed to deal with Godzilla could not, with current technology, be transported by conventional rockets. The space-based system designed to counter Godzilla was still incomplete.
Without a space-based system, the Earth’s current heavy aerial platforms were simply too slow. They would be shot down before even getting close to Godzilla.
Humanity needed a fast aircraft capable of approaching Godzilla at close range—and currently, only the Bilusaludo and the Exif possessed such technology.
If they were willing to help, operations against Godzilla could proceed far more easily.
But if they refused…
Then Godzilla would have to be restrained.
“If we can’t destroy Godzilla, then we’ll have to stall it—until the Bilusaludo mothership arrives.”
Through analysis of Godzilla’s past behavior, the tactical team believed it would likely be drawn to the area exhibiting the strange phenomenon.
At the very least, if it didn’t consider it important, there wouldn’t be such an abnormal storm present there…
The abnormal storm shrouding southern Australia was caused by its presence. That same presence made it difficult for nuclear missiles from space to be used. But if not from space—then perhaps from the ground…
That might work.
They could airdrop into northern Australia, advance by ground convoy, and manually deliver nuclear weapons via transport machines—then detonate them in batches.
If done correctly, this might just be able to restrain Godzilla.
At present, Godzilla had not yet broken through the defense line, and no one knew which direction it would take next.
There was no time to establish a proper defense network. The coastline where humans lived was far too vast; with current technological capabilities, it was impossible to deploy defenses across so many areas simultaneously.
Moreover, for this version of Godzilla—Godzilla Earth—conventional defense installations were likely completely ineffective.
The only effective method against it was concentrated nuclear bombardment.
Nothing else could hurt it.
If all of the above plans failed, then humanity would have no choice but to wait…
Wait for the nuclear network in space to bombard it continuously.
Godzilla still had heat dissipation issues. While small nuclear bombs could no longer harm it, they could still maintain a high-temperature environment around it.
Uninterrupted nuclear strikes could prevent it from advancing more than 1,000 kilometers inland along the coast.
If the bombardment was sustained long enough, perhaps it could eventually inflict serious damage.
But that… would take a very, very long time.
And during that time, how many people would Godzilla destroy?
One billion? Two billion?
That would be a number humanity could not endure. If such a situation truly came to pass, then for humanity, the time left would merely be a slow death.
“There’s no other choice.”
Deep in thought, Ludwig suddenly called for his assistant, whispered something in his ear, and instructed him to inform the scientific and military engineering teams to assess the feasibility of this plan.
After his earlier shout, the conference room had fallen into a temporary silence. But that quiet didn’t last long.
Another report arrived—and it threw the room into chaos once more.
Godzilla had already broken through the blockade.
Godzilla was heading straight for New Eden.
