Volume 2 Chapter 126: Ghidorah’s World
Gold. Dull, muted gold.
A boundless golden hue filled the entire land as far as the eye could see.
Unbelievably, in just over a dozen days, the scales scattered from Ghidorah's Wings had completely contaminated the earth.
Just a month ago, green — the symbol of Earth's ecology — had been the dominant color here. But now, merely a month later, Ghidorah’s dark gold had replaced the green, transforming this region completely.
The dark golden forest now averaged a height of over 50 meters — an extreme anomaly for Earth’s ecological systems.
However, compared to the rest of what this forest exhibited, such an “anomaly” was perhaps the most “normal” aspect.
Plant life resembling animals, colonies of fungi releasing deadly spores, airborne bladders floating across the sky, dark golden humanoid creatures weaving through the dense forest, and root systems beneath the surface carving through rock and soil like predators.
The leaves were as tough as metal — even bullets couldn’t pierce them.
For humanity, such an environment was nothing short of a death zone.
But to the colossal creature now barreling toward it from afar—
BOOM! BOOM! BOOM! BOOM! BOOM! BOOM! BOOM! BOOM—
—none of it was even a hindrance.
Godzilla, with its 40-million-ton body, crashed through the entire forest. Neither humanoid monstrosities nor predatory flora could impede its advance in the slightest.
Until—
The ground gave way.
A single misstep, and the supersonic behemoth plunged beneath the surface in an instant.
At twice the speed of sound and with the kinetic force of 40 million tons, Godzilla took less than a second to crash over a kilometer underground.
The ground exploded around the impact site, hurling millions of tons of earth and rock skyward. Several minutes later, a massive tail swept through the airborne mushroom cloud.
Again?
The colossal black beast, mountain-like in size, scattered the dust. Clinging to its body were countless dark gold creatures, seemingly “gnawing” on it.
But “gnawing” wasn’t quite the right term.
Rather than biting in the conventional sense, their actions resembled cutting.
Focused beams of light carved into Godzilla’s skin, and unlike the endless nuclear blasts it had endured underwater, these seemingly insignificant dark-gold creatures inflicted even deeper wounds.
Strange lifeforms.
BOOM!
A blast erupted from the ground — a fireball equivalent to a million tons of TNT engulfed Godzilla’s body, granting equal death to the ambushing creatures.
More of its surface melted, though it wasn’t anything serious. A jet of air blasted from its nostrils as it flicked its tail and stood still in thought.
This can’t go on.
This was the seventh time. Since breaking into East Asia, this was already the seventh ambush of its kind.
Each time Godzilla stepped into a new area, the previously dormant ecosystem suddenly came alive — as if targeting Ghidorah’s ancient foe.
The reactivated forests couldn’t harm Godzilla much directly, but they could obstruct its progress.
By simply hollowing out the ground in its path, they didn’t even need to attack — Godzilla’s own weight would collapse the terrain beneath it.
And then? Then it would fall.
For a creature of such enormous mass and speed, even the slightest angle of misstep could send it crashing through the earth ahead.
Though it wasn’t seriously injured by this, it cost precious time.
And that was enough.
A single stumble — just climbing back out would take one or two minutes. Add to that the time needed to clear away the Ghidorah organisms that swarmed over during the fall, and it all consumed precious time.
This significantly delayed its forward progress.
But it wasn't just its movement being hindered. Godzilla had discovered another problem: those Ghidorah creatures that climbed onto its body weren’t just cutting into it.
They were also implanting something inside.
A type of parasite that could consume its body.
Yes — parasites capable of living inside Godzilla.
Their size? Tiny. Merely millimeters in length.
But their destructive ability was formidable. Their mandibles could cut through the material that made up Godzilla’s body, and more importantly...
They could reproduce inside it.
The external nuclear blasts had indeed cleared out most of the parasites, but a few had hidden in the crevices of the wounds they had carved — successfully surviving the purge.
And then they began to gnaw.
Their feeding and reproduction rate wasn’t especially fast — Godzilla’s structure and scale limited them. Even with Ghidorah’s genetic makeup, these parasites couldn’t digest the ultra-dense material of Godzilla's body quickly.
To produce a first generation would take at least three days.
Until then, Godzilla could still cleanse himself at specific points and wash them away. While such a cleansing would cause minor self-injury, it would only be light damage.
The Ghidorah parasites weren’t highly dangerous to it...
…Or were they?
No — they were extremely dangerous.
Because these parasites weren’t brought from space by Ghidorah's Wings — they were evolved right here on this planet, born naturally from the fragmented cells of Ghidorah left behind.
And it wasn’t just the parasites.
The golden trees, the subterranean root networks, the humanoid monsters — all were natural evolutionary outcomes.
Only, unlike Earth lifeforms which needed tens of thousands or even millions of years to undergo major changes, these Ghidorah-cell organisms only needed ten hours, a hundred hours — and they could adapt just as profoundly.
A month ago, this place was green.
A month later, it was gold.
So what will this land look like another month from now?
The Ghidorah parasites gnawed at Godzilla’s flesh. Staring across the endless golden expanse, Godzilla suddenly let loose a blast of flame from its mouth.
The massive explosion flattened everything around it, annihilating the golden forest. As it advanced, Godzilla continued its breath attacks, reducing its speed to just below the speed of sound.
At the same time, patches of its thick hide began to shed autonomously — embedding themselves into the scorched ground, right above the remnants of Ghidorah’s root-like structures.
They slammed into the remains, and the Godzilla cells carried on the shed layers began to reproduce beneath the ash, consuming the remnants of Ghidorah’s cells at a rate no slower than theirs.
This is all it can do.
Slightly adjusting its path and plan, Godzilla continued advancing — heading for South America.
Meanwhile, within humanity’s last sanctuary — New Eden — all of humanity’s countermeasures against Godzilla had finally been completed.
The war that would determine the future of both sides… was about to begin.
