you gotta react to noel gallaghers high flying birds! noel took a step back from the more heavy rock n roll and the sound is very different to oasis songs. they all sound very angelic and heavenly. you should start with the first album for sure!

Eugene Akaruean

Fun fact: Little James is Liam’s first song writing credit. It’s about his first born also :)

In a nutshell this album was made when the band was getting out of the parties and drugs. Gas Panic is about Noel having a drug induced panic attack and decided to quit drugs after that. Noel wanted this album to be made while the band is sober which is why it might sound more melancholic and concentrated, (some refer this album as the ‘comedown’ album).

Ahhh that explains the more mellow sound. It’s so cool to see how much the art can change just from being on or off substances

My least favorite Oasis album. Interesting sounds, but not that many great songs. I actually like some of the B-sides from this album better. Let's All Make Believe, Full On (though Liam should have sung it), Carry Us All, and One Way Road could have all been on the album, and I think it would have been stronger.

Also the producer for this album was Mark Spike Stent who previously worked on Massive Attack and Bjork which is why it sounds more electronic and experimental. He would go on to produce for Gorliaz as well so the connection to made is pretty spot on lol.

Fuckin' in the Bushes is their opening track at their gigs, here's the intro for their 2025 tour if you're interested - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qHTAXy00ijY. It's also used in Supersonic and during the fight scene in the Brad Pitt film Snatch. There's a British wrestler called Nigel McGuinness who used it as his entrance song too.

Top 5, no particular order as it could change on any given day but: Gas Panic Who Feels Love Fuckin in the Bushes Go Let it Out Roll It Over Definitely a transitional album what with Bonehead and Guigsy leaving during recording and the more sober approach.

Jack

It's an interesting album this one, really quite different from their earlier stuff and not as bad as a lot of people make it out to be. For me gas panic and sunday morning call are some of oasis' best work. Where did it all go wrong, go let it out and fuckin in the bushes are all great too in my opinion whereas the rest of the songs are sub par. Also noel's solo work is incredible if you'd be interested, especially the first album which i think is a masterpiece.

I've been hearing a lot about the solo albums, I'll have to get into some of those too

Lee Rogan

Oh by the way, if you're feeling fatigued on any certain band take a break man, I'm sure you want your reactions to be as genuine as possible so fatigue can definitely affect your initial feelings on songs so don't feel bound to the grind, do things in your own time 👊

I agree, I think I will take maybe a week break from oasis albums

Oasis: Familiar to Millions Live at Wembley 2000 (part of this album tour). I don't know if you want to react or not. Someone said it's their worst gig ever, Liam was absolutely drunk and took a drug, while Noel tried to be professional. 2000 was a big transition year for Oasis, their music, their life, their look, and Liam voice was clearly raspy at this point.

The Music Guy

Please start the Beatles soon. They are in my opinion the greatest band of all time and to fully experience you should start from the beginning. Blur are also with a listen

Basically after the be here now tour which was just absolute madness every body was on drugs drinking especially cocaine you will see with gmex but still some of the best gigs .the tour lasted from June 1997 with three USA shows one on there own two supporting u2 then the album released in August and the main tour starting in September 1997 ending on march 25th 1998 so roughly 9 months touring they were all exhausted after it was chaos Noel gave up cocaine mid 1998 started having panic attacks and wrote gas panic about it he was prescribed Valium for the panic attacks thats why standing on the shoulder of giants is a bit more mellow also nicknamed the comedown album but Noel in the long run got addicted to Valium and it was harder for him to kick but anyway they all went back again to the studio in the summer of 1999 in the south of France after doing nothing for two years Noel got rid of Owen morris who mixed and produced the first three albums for a change of sound and professional reasons basically because he was absolutely geeked on cocaine mixing be here now along with the rest of the band during the be here now sessions and replaced him with mark ‘spike ‘ stent who produced for Madonna u2 and the spice girls during this time Liam was trying to quite the booze and drugs and Noel set a no drinking no drugs rule in the studio but during this bonehead was still drinking a lot and guigsy the bands stoner and bassist just always smoked a lot of weed and couldn’t function without it but boneheads drinking was the bigger issue because Noel didn’t want Liam to start drinking again and getting hammered again which would be a big issue and Noel started to have problems with bonehead who was so drunk he kept all the guys up by yelling out his bedroom window at rabbits and it started to spiral when one day at 4am bonehead poured a bottle of wine over the new producer spike stent while he was sleeping and Noel saw this as on the verge of bullying and one night Noel retaliated by pouring a can of beer on a sleeping bonehead which he didn’t take kindly and had an argument with Noel and bonehead threatened to leave the band and Noel said I’ll call the taxi and Noel and bonehead didn’t speak till years later and bonehead publicly on July 10 1999 left stating he wanted to spend more time with his young family and the next day because of not being able to function without weed and Noel banning it guigsy the bands stoner and bassist left the day after bonehead guigsy left via fax machine which Noel said is the most 80s thing ever and neither Noel or Liam have heard from him since he keeps in contact with bonehead but lives a very private life only two photos in the last 25 years have surfaced apparently he just invests in real estate but because of the departures of bonehead and guigsy for legal reasons the band had to re-record boneheads and guigsys parts which only consisted of Noel doing bass rhythm and lead guitar and vocals on the songs he sang. Liam doing his vocals and Alan the drummer doing the drums and then for the tour they got Andy bell for bass and gem archer for rhythm guitar yea that’s basically that time of the band

Damnnnb that’s insane! I lowkey wish the documentary got into some of those details

Rachael

‘Where did it all go wrong’ is a brilliant song but it’s even better when he sings it on Jools Holland. Absolute CHILLS

Sage is Typing...

I need to do a jools holland reaction, I've heard so much about that one

samosameer

I wonder if he's talking to himself in "Where Did It All Go Wrong?" I reckon the song is his commentary to himself on the state of his life. Oasis had been pure ascent until Be Here Now proved itself a hard listen and the backlash began. Major personal life changes followed. He got divorced. He stopped taking cocaine, which apparently involved taking downers for a while. The whole album is the comedown from the madness that was the Be Here Now era. It has plenty of flaws but it also has Fuckin' In The Bushes, Gas Panic, and Roll It Over (Liam's live version from his solo career is the best version tbh).

Sage is Typing...

Damn there really was so much change happening around that time

flyingscotsman_a3

Interesting how you mention Gorillaz, not sure if you know this or not, but the main musician behind Gorillaz (Damon Albarn) is also the lead singer and songwriter for Blur!

Kananda Rossi

go let it out is my second favorite oasis song ever, just behind slide away. I'm not the biggest fan of this album, but I enjoy it a lot, gas panic and roll it over being on my top 3 for sure. It is a big change from the 90s albuns to this one, but I feel like they get better and their last album, dig out your soul, is the best thing they have put out since be here now (in my opinion)

Louis

It’s actually about his Stepson at the time, not his biological son

flyingscotsman_a3

lol just watched the GMEX stream and it seems you found out there

Steff

Nice man. It’s interesting that you enjoyed little James so much. It’s very much panned and criticised by the hardcore oasis fans. Appreciate your opinion on this - been absolutely addicted to your vids atm

Sage is Typing...

Wait really? I wonder what they don’t like about it lol. Glad you’re liking the videos 🙏🏿

Steff

Yeah, it’s because it was Liam’s first song he wrote and the lyrics are abit cheesy. But each to everyone’s own

Mason Mennell

Night 1 was probably the best gig of the 2000s and one of my favorite of all time. Night 2 was easily one of the worst ever. It's a funny contrast but familiar to millions the live album from night one is a must watch.
