David Bowie is definitely a GOAT. Not every album is a 10/10, but it's crazy how many 10/10 albums he has

Moonage Daydream is an S just for that outro guitar solo by Mick Ronson. (And I wrote that before watching you say exactly that).

Bowie is a musical chameleon, changing his sound many times through his career. I think this is his best album, but he has several that are considered classics.

Ziggy Stardust is the album that launched him to superstardom in the 70s. For a first album of his to listen to, I'd say it was the best choice to get a understanding of who he was as an artist and his glam rock era! The album before Ziggy, Hunky Dory, is great too! His debut is very avant-garde, you'd have to be a really hardcore fan to put that on the rotation LOL. Something to note, Bowie was very experimental, had different eras, and crossed genres throughout his career (glam rock, Motown, funk, rock, Pop, electronic, instrumental etc..) All being very Bowie, in style and sound.

Wait that's so exciting! I honestly can't wait to get into more of his stuff

Oh shit bro. First time hearing this... I know like one song on this album. Bowie is a legend edit; yeah aight this shit fire 🔥

Ritchie Lamond

I’d second this. Hunky Dory, Ziggy and Aladdin Sane are almost a trilogy after which he changes things up again drastically so it would make sense to do those two before deciding if you wanted to continue. I wouldn’t go further back than Hunky to be honest as it’s not at all stream and reaction friendly.

Ritchie Lamond

I respect you going into these things as blind as possible as it’s as true and pure a reaction as you can get, having said that, this album is one that improves when you have an idea of the concept of the album and the story he’s trying to tell. I did think at one stage that Starman was going to be a candidate for generational classic from you (which would be apt as it absolutely was the high point of glam rock) but thoroughly enjoyed your reaction nonetheless. In terms of the musicality, Bowie played the saxophone, some acoustic guitar and the other odd instruments like the penny whistle himself.

If you want to hear another amazing solo that it is atmospheric, uses effects, and builds, you need to listen to Maggot Brain by Funkadelic. George Clinton told the guitarist Eddie Hazel to play like he just learned his mother had died, and to put whatever emotion he would feel into his playing. It's considered one of the best guitar tracks of all time.

Derek Dugan

3rd this too. Would love to hear the reaction to Hunky Dory next.

Just get ready if you dive in. Notice the dates of the releases to try and catch the trilogies or similar styles, but as others have said, he changes styles regularly. Blackstar, with the knowledge he was dying , is heartbreaking but still breaking new ground with the jazz ensemble that accompanied him.

RIP for real. I'm so interested to see what other styles he dives into

You know what's crazy? I actually added it in there after a few more listens
