Listen to the live version of rein me in. It’s even better

Regarding the Alcoholism issue and the comment from your Hypersonic Missiles reaction. As someone who grew up in the South of England and close to London, there wasn't a huge alcoholism issue. Of course, people have their issues and some will still turn to drink or drugs but its not as prevalent. Mostly due to there being more opportunities in life, being so close to London. When I moved to the South of Wales, I began to notice the issues that Sam talks about. It's a much more deprived part of the UK and suffers from the same financial issues that the North-East of England does. Here the drug and alcohol issues were much more noticeable and it was something that was talked about much more casually amongst those who live there. Those in the US who talk of moving to the UK are likely talking about moving close to somewhere near London or to an idyllic village in the countryside, rather than a major city that suffers from lack of employment.

I live around 20 minutes away from the city (Newcastle) that Sam is from and references in a lot of his songs. The issues of poverty, drugs and alcoholism are definitely accurate to life here, as it is one of the most deprived areas of the UK.

Lexus Chen

we appreciate you going to battle w your editor to post this 🫡

Adam

Sams early music before his first album got released is also great with songs like poundshop kardashians and greasy spoon

IanisM12

Rein me in being in C 🥀

Dominic Nortney

Brilliant that you vibe with TV Dinner Under appreciated by many who don’t get how tough it is to write and produce a song like that

Ash

Sam released a film of his concert at London stadium on YouTube. Defo worth the watch. He and his band are very good live.

Terence Slattery

You should check out his concert video from the London Stadium on YouTube. I love People Watching and Remember My Name off this album. Funnily enough, I might be having a beer with him soon, will get him a pint for his contribution to music for sure.

lee

Think this years brits awards will be dominated by Sam and Olivia and Noel Gallagher getting the best songwriter award too

J

Brilliant album. I agree though that Rein me in is massively overrated, and I really like Olivia Dean. TV Dinner rightly rated so high here, dunno why its slept on so much

“Newcastle and Liverpool hold deep-seated animosity toward Margaret Thatcher due to the severe economic decline, industrial devastation, and perceived social abandonment of their regions during her tenure as Prime Minister (1979–1990). Her policies prioritized a shift away from manufacturing and coal, decimating working-class communities in the North East and Merseyside, which led to high be unemployment and a lasting sense of regional neglect.” That’s to put it in a very short reason why people hate thatcher there a lot more than that and she especially hated in Liverpool for what she did about the Hillsbrough disaster

Fender_Bender

all is on my side is his best song still imo

Adam

100% agree some of his best songs aren’t on albums like wild grey ocean which almost sounds like the blueprint behind some songs off people watching

Ryan Winfield

Listen to some of Sam’s other tracks like Poundshop kardashians, all is on my side!

Kian Jackson

Every day I hear the name Margaret Thatcher I don’t get mad, I get happy realising that she’s dead and will not be coming back! (Great video by the way)

Terence Slattery

I was meant to be meeting him for a few beers last night but wasn't feeling well and had to give it a miss unfortunately.

Indi Poole

What would you say has been your favourite album of his so far? Really recommend you give all is on my side and Angel in Lothian a listen, my 2 favourite songs of his. Really special.

Luke Evans

Finally some chin up love, what an underrated song! Verve/Oasis vibes.
