The let it be movie kind of misses key moments because they didn't have the technology to separate voices from guitar playing and they focused mainly on the bad points of their recording process. The later get back uses ai to separate voices and shows how and what led up to the album and rooftop performance however it's like 9 hours. Basically they wanted to play live again so no crazy tape manipulation and the songs are more raw

Definitely do a album ranking when you're done

pleaseee watch the get back doc its so cool to see George and John playing things that would later end up in their solo works, imagine and all things must pass. I think Imagine/ plastic ono band albums, all things must pass album and Paul's ram album would have been the last Beatles album if they didn't break up. you also literally see them creating/ writing these songs the little things they say before and after, chaotic jam sessions, the break up drama, Billy Preston helping them finishhh, and songs that end up in Abbey road.

I am no expert, but in the Get Back movie you can see George presenting this song to the group. I Me Mine might not have been worked on at all until later but you see it in the documentary about this album. George went on an absolute hit streak in 68-70. If you do any Beatles solo album you have to do All Things Must Pass. George had such a fantastic stockpile of songs he couldn't use with the Beatles so when he finally was free to do so on his own he dropped them all in what would be his magnum opus.

Owen Parker

btw For You Blue isn't a Lennon song, it's George's

I heard that ”The long and winding road” is the song that made The Beatles break up, because McCartney was against using choirs ans going away from the traditional band etc and they started fighting over it

would recommend listening to the naked version of the album too the mix is very different and the tracklist is a bit different as well I personally prefer it to the Original

Let It Be is my personal favorite Beatles album, but it was viewed as disappointing at the time of release due to it "just being a bunch of good songs". The group had set expectations high with inventing the concept album with Sgt pepper, the double album with the White Album and another innovation on Abbey Road that I won't spoil, so just dropping a collection of good, classic songs was viewed as a step down in quality. Anthology will mostly cover this but the Let It Be sessions were not really a real Studio experience. The original plan was to film the band writing and rehearsing brand new material for their big return to touring. The sessions were by all accounts terrible with bad vibes all around, and their big live return ended up being just a concert played on the rooftop of their office building. After the sessions the band decided that they hated the experience and scrapped everything to record Abbey road instead. Later when the band had broken up, the recordings were salvaged and repackaged into a "final" Beatles album by the bands management. The majority of the recordings are from early 1969, before the Abbey Road sessions, but some overdubs and re-recordings were done by the members individually in 1970.

It's split into 3 parts that each are 2.5-3 hours long. It's a fascinating watch but more of a fly-on-the wall experience where you get to feel what it's like to be in the room with the band than a clear story being told like the Anthology.

Most underrated beatles album by a country mile. Also it's george harrison singing on 'for you blue', not lennon

LilacKodo

Long and winding road in B is insane… top 10 beatles track

LilacKodo

Youtube will not like the long and winding road rating lol

You seem to really like George Harrison's stuff now.. Considering his few contributions of only a couple songs per album, you have actually been ranking him higher than the other members on average. George absolutely cooks on Abbey Road so I can't wait for that.

If you watch Get Back, you'll see all of this, but the idea was for them to do a live concert and release that as an album. That sort of fell apart, and they set all this material aside, which was really just rehearsals in the studio. After they broke up, Phil Spector was brought in to salvage the tapes, which resulted in this album. Paul hated that Spector added strings and backing vocals to his songs, and eventually released a stripped down version called Let It Be Naked. That background explains why the album has such a casual feel, including the studio chatter and messing around.

Paul's angry letter to Phil Spector: Dear Sir, In future, no one will be allowed to add to or subtract from a recording of one of my songs without my permission. I had considered orchestrating ‘The Long And Winding Road’ but I had decided against it. I, therefore, want it altered to these specifications:- 1. Strings, horns, voices and all added noises to be reduced in volume. 2. Vocal and Beatle instrumentation to be brought up in volume. 3. Harp to be removed completely at the end of the song and original piano notes to be substituted. 4. Don’t ever do it again. Signed Paul McCartney

Dan Hartzog

All Things Must Pass is a necessary listen. All the songs George had in the backlog because he couldn't get them on an album resulted in a triple album, and it's generally considered one of the best solo Beatle albums, if not the best.

Alex

Definitely an album that gets better i was the same before. Two of slaps now but yeah paul saying goodbye at the end is definitely him signing off.

The get back films are incredible. It covers them preparing for the rooftop concert. Certain songs in the album are from the take they did on top of the roof.

George Martin famously said that the album should say - “Produced by George Martin, overproduced by Phil Spector” . Paul McCartney was not a fan of Phil Spector and later had the album re produced in 2014. Paul wanted the album to be almost like a live album and back to recording how they had previously done in their earlier years.

Yes please watch the Get Back documentary ! Its super long but its them all in the studio working on this album and it all leads up to their last ever performance on the rooftop. PLEASE watch it. DO NOT watch the Let it Be movie, its sucks. watch Get Back instead.

Keenan716

Billy Preston came in during the sessions and was a huge part in The Beatles keeping it together and finishing the album. He's on the keyboard all over this album. Again, Get Back is worth a watch please bro. maybe take some time off the beatles after its all done and then come back to it in a month or so.

Uriko100

Just to make some order in the mess - After the White Album, The Beatles went into ambitious project called Get Back which the target was to make rehearsals for some new songs for TV show with audience. It didn't worked out well and after George left the band they switched it into an album for him to comeback because he didn't like the idea. after the recording was over they went up to their office rooftop and made the songs live. btw keyboard player Billy Preston joined them for those sessions. after finishing recording Abbey Road in summer of 1969 , Lennon said to the others that he want a divorce from the band and it kept in secret until Let it Be is out. meanwhile in January 1970 without Lennon they recorder I Me Mine which was the last song that the Beatles recorder (until the Anthology period in the 90s)

Kiwilainen

Oh and a number of the songs on that album are actually live takes from that rooftop concert. Specifically Dig A Pony, I've Got A Feeling and One After 909.

Dan Hartzog

Though it is John playing the lap steel guitar.

Camity

damn I forget how bad the 2009 mix is compared to the 2021 mix

Courtney

Agree with others saying to watch the Get Back documentary. It's so fascinating watching them in the studio together.
