I had a feeling you might not like this one, which is why I said I hope it doesn’t put you off listening to their other albums. The reason I said to start with this one is because it was their first big popular album. The next one to listen to is Californication, it’s a blend of funk but more melodic, I feel like John took over more on the next few albums, especially By the way which is my favourite album. He adds backing vocals and when you listen to it compared to this it’s like two completely different bands

Big fan here: The must-listen albums aside from this one are Californication (1999), By The Way (2002) and Stadium Arcadium (2006). These are the albums that feature the songs you've heard before this reaction and they are all from their comeback era where the music gets a lot more melodic and pop oriented, the rapping disappears almost entirely and the lyrics get much less explicit. Protools was also invented between this album and Californication which really benefits Kiedis. I don’t blame you for reacting the way you did and feeling the way you do and despite everything I appreciate you giving the album a try. As unhappy as I still am with twitch chat for immediately trying to distract you from the music with Anthony Kiedis’s personal life (which I make no defense of/excuse for btw), I do think you gave the album a fair shot despite that and if you are not completely turned off by now, I would say try their pop-era. If you’re just done with Kiedis and want nothing to do with him you should check out guitarist John Frusciante’s solo albums. The first two are very lo-fi, abrasive, avant garde, heroin music which may not be the easiest listen but skipping those he has an eclectic and beautiful discography which ranges from acoustic ballads, synth-pop, garage-rock, lo-fi, Aphex-Twin style IDM and more.

I really hope he does the next few albums because they really are a lot better. I think Frusciante getting more involved in the creating, writing and production of the songs and not ‘just being the guitar player’ really helped. I think it’s no coincidence that when he’s in the band their albums a highly praised and when he’s not it’s abit hit and miss

I'm a big fan of the entire RHCP discography, but I understand your reaction to that album — the 80s/90s were crazy times. Still, I’d ask you to give their more pop-oriented albums another chance. Especially “By the Way” — there are some real gems there that I think you might like. I love their sound, particularly the funk side of it, but I also appreciate their pop side. Frusciante, Flea, and Chad really carry the band on their backs. In terms of lyrics, Kiedis doesn’t add much — he’s kind of just there. Lyrics aren’t really his strong point. But musically they’re excellent. I also love John Frusciante’s solo career, and Flea has some great solo tracks that go more in a jazz direction. He even did a feat with Thom Yorke, which turned out excellent! 🎶

Bit weird to react to this one of RHCP , 2000s onwards they were at their peak i've never really liked early and 90s rhcp

The albums get better. Will still be a mixed bag but by stadium Arcadium they really mellowed out over all. Flea John and Chad are incredible and sometimes Keidis strikes gold.

Bettt I'm definitely interested in hearing some of their other music. It was a rough first listen for me but I wouldn't say I'm completely turned off yet

This is one of the funniest reactions I’ve ever seen. You should definitely post it. Being rocked so much by one song that you glazed over. Ha.
