My man really had a thing for Anne Frank

Marten 9

Yessss, been waiting for this all day haha

Dan Hartzog

Olivia Tremor Control is another Elephant 6 band worthy of a reaction, and featured Jeff Mangum as an early member. They put out two classic psychedelic pop albums, Dusk at Cubist Castle and Black Foliage. Pitchfork gave both albums close to 10/10. https://pitchfork.com/reviews/albums/16047-otc/

this one’s definitely a grower, I needed a few listens back in the day, but it became one of my favorite albums of all time eventually

Jake Curtis

You trusted my suggestions with Ants From Up There and this, now you just need to trust me with Twin Fantasy (by far better than both - I am themole9 for reference 😭)

bryan

twin fantasy my favorite out of all these!

bryan

title track in c tier one of your craziest placements

masde

That annotation that said Jeff Mangum called Anne Frank his dream woman might have been a Genius user going rogue lol. I could be wrong but I have never heard of him saying that and couldn't find anything on it. That's crazy if he did though

Arad Yazdi

Hey man just subbed after Ants and psyched to see this up. I second Twin Fantasy (although I prefer Teens of Denial), but also start on Father John Misty with I Love You, Honeybear

Radio Man

This is massively influential on 2000s indie, especially on bands like Bright Eyes, and The Mountain Goats, and The Decemberists. You can see the influence on Arcade Fire and Death Cab for Cutie too.

SL

90% of the lyrics here are just inspired by random dreams mangum had. Doesn’t mean they’re meaningless but it’s impossible to make perfect sense out of them imo

e

Yeah I've never heard it either lol. The only context I feel like I have a vague memory of him calling her something along the lines of his "dream girl" was in the context of her being someone he'd had literal dreams about, but I don't think he used those words?

bryan

i feel like the anne frank aspect gets overblown and ppl try to blanket mangums lyrics with that fact

bryan

take a shot every time bro accidentally scrubs thru the next song

Henry Green

Where’s the discord join link?

e

Dyingggg for a Twin Fantasy reaction

Let me tell you, this album definitely takes a while to grow on you, but once it does, it hits you like a TRUCK. I thought the album was pretty good on first listen, but the more I thought about it and listened to it, it quickly rose to my top 10 favorite albums of all time. It’s basically become my comfort album at this point lmao Also I’m glad you loved Oh Comely, that song is such a special song to me
