Great album, one of the few fantano 10/10s, dylans lyrics are so wierd sometimes but when he wants to tell a story hes the best in the game, blood on the tracks is his best album imo which was released midway through his prime, every song is a 8/10 atleast and one you can certainly analyse the lyrics from, some of the best story telling ever on that album, will keep requesting the oppening track tangled up in blue untill the wheel finaly picks me on patreon suggestions lol, its his best song by a mile

times they are a changin and freewheelin bob dylan are a great precursor to the going electric trilogy of bringing it all back home, highway 61 and blonde on blonde. but i think his best album is Blood on The Tracks. it helps to have more of a context for the trajectory of his career though. honestly there’s something to like about all his albums, for me at least

100000% A New World Record and then Out of the Blue, discovery is good but far too americanised and cringy 80s sounding at times, but those 2 are incredible

Dylan is my favorite artist by far. One thing to keep in mind with this album is that it was already a massive change in direction in his career. He had become a hero of the folk scene, and was already considered the "voice of his generation" due to songs like Blowin' In the Wind, Times They Are a Changin', and Masters of War. After a couple years, he had moved on from that scene, and was no longer interested in writing protest music or folk songs. Instead, he started playing rock music with a backing band, as opposed to just him and an acoustic guitar. Ballad of a Thin Man is about the folk scene's reaction to his evolution and going electric (something is happening here and you don't know what it is). He was also into surrealist wordplay at this time, which is why some of the lyrics are hard to interpret. Dylan showed everyone that rock music could be artistic and challenging (and yes, funny), not just songs about girls. Think of the Beatles evolving lyrics, which they credit to Dylan's influence. If you want to hear the folk hero Dylan, check out Freewheelin' Bob Dylan. Also, you can't take Dylan at his word in interviews. While he sometimes told the truth, he also loved to lie to the press and make up stories.

Like a Rolling Stone in B is definitely a Weird Fishes moment. If you want an album with similar songwriting, then check out Spiderland by Slint. It has that spoken-word storytelling and cryptic yet vivid lyrics, but with a 90's garage band sound. It's a personal favorite of mine.

Nice reaction. Happy you enjoyed it a little more than you thought you would. I think the songs will grow on you the more you revisit them no pun intended. if you wanna continue on the Dylan journey. Bringing It All Back Home should be the next one.

Dan Hartzog

If Blonde on Blonde didn't exist, Bringing It All Back Home would be my favorite Dylan album. I agree that would make a great next album, as it's half acoustic and half electric.

SuperPony

Blonde on Blonde might be my favorite album of all time. it’s either that or The Beatles White Album. it depends on the day.

masde

You liked it a lot more than I thought. If you do another record of his, Blonde on Blonde is probably the right call. It's the album after this and is more instrumentally/melodically interesting than this one. It has a lot of the funny stuff you like too, whereas Blood on the Tracks is a pretty self-serious album

More Bob Dylan! More folk music in generally

Dan Hartzog

This would make a great reaction.
