Hi again!

It’s my second post today here but the month is slowly coming to an end and I really want to give you some updates on this month’s theme – summer berries!

For the first time I’m drawing a few different plants for one theme.

All of them are from the same family, so I guess it’s ok! (lol)

This time I don’t sketch that much, mostly because I don’t want to get stuck in the sketching phase.

Also, I’m much more familiar with drawing berries than flowers, so sketching a lot is not necessary.

I’d love to do that but making tons of pencil sketches is not a priority right now.

Okay, let’s see some sketches, shall we?

I already shared these of two pages in one of my recent posts but here we go again:

Drawing leaves, especially these more complex ones, can still sometimes be challenging to me.

Here I was trying to understand the slight difference between black vs red currant leaf!

My illustrations aren’t hyper-realistic and I’ve never aimed for that, but I’m always make sure to draw plants as accurate as I can.

Some sketches in one of my small sketchbook – ready to be colored!

I used a light yellowish green pencil for these (Faber Castell Polychromos 170) It looks ugly on pictures but comes in handy when I'm not sure yet which colors should I use for the final outlines.

These sketches were made on a loose sheet of paper with the intention to be traced later into my A5 sketchbook:

And that’s what I did!

This page is not fully filled yet but wanted to share it anyway!

Here are some of finished illustrations:

gooseberries!

black currant! I love how many colors can be used to color these berries!

and red currant! There's sooo much yellow in these illustrations that it makes it hard to properly edit colors.

all of the illustrations so far:

(I got back to using multiple sketchbooks!)

hello sun!

As for the print, I’m working on quite complex composition featuring all these three types of berries (gooseberries, red currant and black currant).

I’ll be sharing it and more drawings (hopefully finished!) in a few days.

Ok, I need to get back to work. Color these sketches and make a few new ones.

I hope you enjoyed this quick update!

Love,

Marta

I really like how you draw berries! Not a big fan of currants taste-wise tbh, but they will always have a special place in my heart because I did my master thesis on Ribes pollination 😄

I love the colors you used on the currants!! So bright and pretty and almost otherworldly.... Captures them when the light is shining through them!

omg, no way!!!! Are you a biologist? :> such a cool subject for master thesis! To me currants taste good, they taste like summer! ♥ but I can eat only handful of them before I change my mind about liking them, lol!

ooh! thank you so much! The effect of the sun shining through the berries is EXACTLY what I was aiming for when drawing them. I’m glad it got noticed! ♥ thank you again. Your comment made me smile from ear to ear!
