sketches ep 9 ✨ | attempt on drawing based on a picture - work in progress (Patreon)

Hi! Long time no post!
Well, I’m spending most of the time in the work cave, completely ignoring every other aspect of life (except food and workouts, which is very exceptional of me). Enough is enough.
I’m drawing digitally all day long. The deadline of this project is just around the corner and well, I must admit, I wasn’t doing much for a week or two and now I gotta catch up.
I’m illustrating seed packages for the American gardening company.
The timeline was very tight from the beginning. While that’s what I signed up for I just wish I had more time to do all these illustrations!
When I work on something for the client, especially when the deadline is tight, I tend to focus only on this.
It doesn’t make much sense cause usually I end up being miserable and asking myself why did I even took this commission in the first place.
Today I woke up feeling, in fact, miserable. I let myself spending two hours with my sketchbooks, drawing for absolutely no purpose. What a relief.
The time limitation is what usually helps me with the process but it wasn’t that easy today.
I haven’t touched my art supplies in a week or so. (yes, I’m drawing digitally for a few hours everyday now but it just doesn’t feel the same)
At first I was like, umm okay, what am I supposed to do now?
Just sketch? Try new markers (I got a few more new markers on a huge sale and haven’t even used them yet!) Make a colored illustration? Draw something new or something I’m very familiar with? Draw something for myself or maybe for Instagram?! So many questions.
I ended up making a few sketches and started a new illustration I’m doing purely for fun. Let’s take a look at them.
Sketches!
Yep, I still haven’t bought a pencil. I use the blue mechanical pencil and then draw over the sketch with the dark brown colored pencil. It takes more time to sketch this way but I noticed it’s actually a great way to practice controlling the pressure I put on paper!
You might remember this chrysanthemum sketch from the last time I shared my sketches.
Other sketches were made this morning.
Well, drawing from photos is not my favorite thing to do, but I’ve decided to give it a try today.
I used a picture I took on my way to the post office.
SEPTEMBER PATREON MAIL HAS BEEN SENT ON SATURDAY, OCTOBER 7th by the way!
I think it’s some kind of cotoneaster plant! Such a beauty!!
This illustration is not 1:1 redraw. You can tell that I was inspired by this photo but it’s not like an exact copy of the picture.
I just… can’t draw from photos, lol. Here, I said it.
Well, at least I had an opportunity to try my new pink and green markers.
This illustration is obviously not finished yet but I just couldn’t afford to spend more time drawing for myself today (knowing that I’d need to write this blog post later and get back to work)
I’ve decided to give myself at least 30 minutes a day to draw for fun, even on the busiest day. You know, just to keep myself sane.
I’ll post something in a few days and then, once I send files to my client, I’ll focus solely on making content for you! Apple themed illustrations, here I come.
Let’s finish today’s post by showing you and example of illustration I've been working on recently! I don’t share my digital illustrations often anywhere, but here it is!
(it's swiss chard rainbow mix!)
I’m making 30+ illustrations of veggies, herbs, flowers and microgreens in this style!
There's still a lot of them to make, so wish me luck :D
Thank you for being here and see you soon!
