Hi!

Yes, you’ve read that right. I started a 100 days project, which for me would be all about drawing everyday for 100 days.

Technically I draw almost everyday already… BUT I draw for clients and I sketch with a pencil a lot. When it comes to making illustrations just for myself, using colors… let’s say, I’ve noticed that I became a liiitle bit too precious about it.

I’ll make a post all about why am I doing this project, why now and what’s my goal, what I’m planning to draw, what are my rules etc.

I wanted to make this post today but while writing it I noticed that I need more time to sort things out in my head to be able to put that in words in the clearest way possible.

If there’s anything you’d like to know about my take on this challenge (yes, I think it’ll be more like a challenge than a project, lol) please feel free to ask about it in the comments or via DM!

I’m already 5 days in!

I really wasn’t sure whether I’ll be able to keep up with this even for 3 days, so I postponed the announcement a bit. Now, when I told you what I’m working on, there’s no way back :D

Okay, let’s take a look at these illustrations!

DAY 1.

Well, only the right part of this spread (and stars!) were done on day 1. Is this cheating?! I’d rather not start this project with cheating :D

I did this illustration just because there was some space left. I made it really mindlessly. It made me want to do more drawings like this, just, you know, for the sake of drawing. It was the final push I needed to start 100 days project (after months if not years of thinking about it)

This is how this page looked before:

DAY 2.

Peonies are quite challenging to draw for me and I feel like I still need tons of practice to really do their beauty justice.

Sooo… I picked them as a subject for the second day of this project!

Honestly, I did that also to REALLY challenge myself. The last time I drew peonies, I redid the sketch at least 5 times and it took me about a week to finish that illustration (I was really reaaaally worried I’d mess it up!)

I’m going to tell you more about why am I so nervous about drawing this kind of flowers in the drawing process video I recorded for you. There will be a voiceover!!

I figured, if I could draw these peonies without any sketch, any warm up, any test, just draw them in one sitting, then I could do anything. I did that, yayy!!

DAY 3. and DAY 5.

This one reminds be very much of a lemon themed sketchbook spread I did while ago. I even used the same colors (or at least very similar colors).

At day 3 I drew this lemon, at day 5 the orange and I added  these blue boxes and stars to kind make a connection between these two illustrations, to make it look more like a sketchbook spread, than just two random drawings that just happens to be next to each other.

I think this kind of illustrations are great for days when I don’t have much time to draw for fun.

DAY 4.

I wasn’t planning on making this illustration a full double-paged spread but oh well! It started really simple, it was just an orange tree branch but I kept adding a fruit or leaf here and there and before I noticed, I had a composition. Not the best one I’ve ever made but yeah, it’s just a practice, isn’t it? If the colors seem a bit crazy here, that’s because they are! I used a lot of lime green and yellow.

Summary:

I’m playing it quite safe now (peonies are the only exception) and I’m drawing a lot of oranges – that’s my form of warm up before designing this month’s goodies for you! I don’t have any expectations for the upcoming days, the only goal for now is to keep up with this project!

My first thoughts after these first few days:

1. I’d really need to think realistically about the time I have for the drawing that day and don’t start a complex illustration on the day when I have a lot of other things going on.

2. I might need to buy more sketchbooks (???!!)

3. I’m thinking about making a round-up video every… let’s say… 2 weeks!

It’s nice to share photos/scans of my works write these long paragraphs about each illustration but I could also make it in a video form.

What do you think? Would you be interested in watching such things?

Of course the fact that I’m doing this 100 days project, doesn’t mean that I’d stop making other illustrations!

Then: I love your idea of this painting project. But - it’s quite a challenge, Marta. Don’t put that much pressure on your shoulders. I know what pressure means. It can even block. Of course I would enjoy a lot what you paint!!! Always love your paintings and the beautiful colours you choose. I always love to read what you write, this following the string of your thoughts.

I love this! If you think you can, yes. That would be awesome, if it is a lot that’s okay😊

Yayy!! I hope you like them! I'm glad the mail arrived before Holidays season! ♥

Thank you! ♥ Actually, I need to think it though :D I've been sick this past week and I forgot to take such circumstances into consideration while planning on making tons of content for this new challenge! I’ll definitely keep up with the routine of drawing everyday but we’ll see about regular videos etc!

That’s so nice of you Martina!! I know putting too much pressure could result in burnout and well... quite the opposite result of what I’m trying to achieve by doing this project. Thank you so much for your concern, that’s really really nice!! Sometimes I work better when putting some pressure on myself. I’m doing a long term freelance project and I’m pretty sure I’d end up not making much personal work during this time if I won’t challenge myself to do so. I’ll do a post about reasons and goals behind it. Luckilly, it’s going well so far but I know the crisis is going to happen at some point. I promise I’ll be gentle to myself! Thanks again ♥
