This is the only source of news I listen to anymore.

I can tell Cody is very much where I am in terms of opinion about the American electorate. Even if terrible things do come from all of Trump’s appointments, the people who voted for him will not see that. They are children who will not take in information that does not please them. They will never see the error of their ways, because by the time those errors are apparent to them, they will have already forgotten that they made those errors in the first place. We are living in a country of the illiterate and stupid.

Knowing references to pop culture is “libbing out”? I’ve heard this kind of sentiment before and I don’t get it. Do Real Board Certified Leftists®©™ not watch TV?

I think it's important to understand that the question of how we do or don't engage with Trump supporters is not a political question. Seeking empathy and understanding with them is a personal choice about our personal lives. It is not engaging in politics. Politically speaking, Trump supporters need to be written off, and opposition needs to be mobilized to stop them. That's what a political solution looks like.

honest question: do you think trump actually will try to stop voting because he doesn't want to stop being president after this term (and yes it influences our politics too)

As someone who has held a security clearance and dealt with how invasive it is (as well as how easily it will be denied if anything in your past is deemed a security risk- including significant debt), it's baffling that they're attempting to put a massive walking security risk in charge of national intelligence. Gaetz and even Trump himself would also technically be precluded from their respective positions based on their inability to obtain a TS/SCI if reality mattered any more.

Here for The Americans reference!

I'm ambivalent on whether or not to cut off Trumpists, but everyone should absolutely cut off Zionists whenever possible.

My thoughts have been pretty aligned with Cody's here in this podcast. I genuinely lost the ability to be surprised after the Nov election. I want to be wrong, but I don't see any reason to believe that the stupid has no bottom. That there are no guardrails other than what they blunder into via their own incompetence, which is a terrible thing to feel hope for.

Has anyone else noticed that JD Vance has just kind of disappeared from any spotlight? And what, if any, implications can be drawn from that?

Katy, I want to talk to you here wrt the beginning of the podcast. I'm a trans woman and a mom. At this point, anyone who has known me before I transitioned, I have no real hope for. I will cut them out, but never cut them off. I have reached out with the olive branch. I have done library talks for years about being trans. I have had my life threatened (though not /too seriously/ just someone promising to use their second amendment rights against me). If they want an olive branch, they can make the effort. I'm done putting effort into people from my past who actively voted against me. Now, my son has friends whose parents voted for trump. i will focus my effort on changing their hearts and minds. and building a community of caring around us. I clearly couldn't change the hearts and minds of those who have known me for years and years. I will not waste more energy there. I will put my energy towards building something new. Folks who might be able to learn.

There’s not a single eligible MAGA voter on this earth that hasn’t been made aware of the harm that their party wants to commit. Not a single one. Their politicians all practically run on that being a benefit, and their base understands this. How far do the Republicans need to go before we stop giving these people the benefit of the doubt? They didn’t trade people’s lives for cheaper gas. They choose to drive fuel inefficient vehicles and SOLD people out for NOTHING.

Dicklon as President of the United States? With his sea sponge charisma, I don't think we have anything to worry about.

… but those who voted for Trump actively chose to collaborate with a clear and present danger of evil. (I’m aware Katy lives in Trump country and that’s colored her thinking.) Plenty of German Nazis were “good people”. (So, I’m cuttin’ off. They refuse to see the implications of the active choices —not ‘just a vote’— they have made and are making.)
