Something that I haven't heard much talk about is the number of kids that are going to fall right through the cracks. I'm a teacher, now working from home, in a relatively wealthy public school and there are just so many kids that are basically M.I.A. right now. Their home lives or their lack of support, or sickness, or travel (I have a kid home in Italy and one back in Russia) prevent them from connecting or they simply don't care to and their structure has collapsed. I am afraid of the coming repercussions this will have on a lot of at-risk youth. I'm concerned the graduation figures are going to plummet, even with relaxed standards. The distance learning is not really the problem, it's the instantaneous shift for these kids that don't have the resources or skillsets to handle them. This is just anecdotal, but my guess is that the data will not be encouraging when we have more distance from this. Please encourage anyone you know who has school-age kids to keep on them! Especially the teens. If they communicate, the teachers want to help. I know that many of them don't think there's any point in trying because they think the world is basically done for their generation. Hopefully, they are wrong.
