Finally! Now I can go shopping and ignore people by listening to your podcast. Much appreciated.

Robert Schuneman

Not much policy at DNC, but the amount of damage mitigation and repair from the Trump Administration will be substantial. A lot will need to be done before different policies can be considered.

Chelsea Now-Tetzlaff

I get it. Trump bad. I will vote to get rid of him. It is when people are attacked because they want to fight for the change they want that will cause people to stay home. Because they will see that no matter what, nothing will change and their voice doesn’t matter. Especially when they parade these republicans and neoliberals and tell progressives 🖕. I know that trump needs to go. But don’t take people’s voices away and hope for change. That’s going to keep people home. Taking away peoples hope is the worst thing they can do. Suppressing their voices about how much pain there is let’s people feel like it doesn’t matter. They don’t matter. Let them support Biden and acknowledge how bad trump is while expressing their hope for the future. That right now Biden isn’t willing to give them. I just love this show and some more news show so so much!!!! Yay!

Robert Schuneman

After the last four years, there’s a hunger for bored. It’s hard to remember when days would go by without news of the president doing some crazy-ass shit.

Robert Schuneman

A symptom of the US’ “winner take all” approach to elections. Ranked choice voting would help. Legislative solutions to recent Supreme Court decisions (Citizens United!!!) would be awesome. Reinstating the nonpartisan legislative research office would also help by reducing lawmakers dependence on lobbyists for information and analysis.

Thank you for your service, my dudes.

Hey everyone, I'd love to hear you guys talk more about something you guys briefly talked about, but something I think a lot of people feel -- that you felt comforted by Biden’s speech. It’s both totally relatable and terrifying. I work in Democratic politics, and I’m trying to leave as soon as possible but ya’know, rent and stuff, and so many candidates seem to be running the exact same campaign as Biden. Getting Republican endorsements and talking only about expanding ACCESS to affordable healthcare etc ect I think part of that is because the people with the most political power in the US -- middle-class white people -- just want this all to go away (there are so many other reasons, but based on all the internal polling, while flawed, points to this). They’re tired of fighting and want to go back to normal, banal evil. It’s easier to ignore something conceptual rather than the big bad man. But that existential dread you or I may feel about Trump is only a portion of the dread of poverty, the dread of physical violence, etc that so many people we’ve pushed to the margins face every day. So when Biden wins, I’m really not looking forward to being the bad guy again for interrupting their brunch with that reality. It’s like how I see my timeline light up every time Obama does anything with people saying “wow a president who speaks in complete sentences,” but decorum has no value. A queer sex worker who never finished high school probably knows a lot more about the state of our country than Obama does. I understand wanting “normalcy” but there needs to be a point where our (again, I’m talking to my middle class whites out here) discomfort is less important than others’ suffering. My question to you all is this -- what does normalcy mean to you, and what value does it have, if any?

Nate

So exactly what I expected from the DNC? Why does our "left" have to be so awful, haha.

Chelsea Now-Tetzlaff

Normalcy means constantly working my ass off while barely scraping by. Not going to the Dr cause I can’t afford it. Normalcy scares the crap out of me! Especially because it seems like everyone is literally pushing for that and nothing more. Which, at the point in history we currently stand, is not acceptable. What happens if millions never get healthcare, don’t have a place to live, and go back to jobs where salary/benefits are cut simply because there are a million desperate people standing behind them. It is so nice to talk to people without being called names! I would like to try and get rank choice voting! Some states have it. Some cohesion in the country would be helpful.

This podcast leaves me thinking about 1988 and 2016 (and, for that matter, 1972). i'm 70, I teach history very much from the left (the candiadte who was closest to me ideologically as George McGovern) and I have NEVER been able to stand in a voting booth and vote for the Democrat without figuratively holding my nose. That said, this podcast has taken a holier-than-thou tack> The stakes in this election are even higher than you think they are, and the fact that Joe Biden is NOT Donald Trump really IS the key point of this election. Policy discussions are for after Biden disappoints us by timidity after the election, which he weill. THEN you can hold his feet to the fire.

I'm just so afraid this is 2016 all over again. A moderate candidate who is offering nothing except not being Trump. Literally everything I got from Hillary was Donald Trump is a big fat bully who hates women. Yeah. And? I am very, very tired of being patient. I have been told to be patient about climate change. I have been told to be patient about fixing health care. I have been told to be patient with regard to social issues like racism, LGBTQ rights, equal pay for people of color and women. I have been told to be patient about a living wage, income inequality, and ridiculous CEO pay levels. I am 40 years old, and I don't want to be patient anymore. Incrementalism doesn't work. The ratchet effect is a thing. I am going to vote for Biden because Donald Trump is the worst, but it is so fucking frustrating that the DNC has made it so clear that they are more concerned with wooing moderate Republicans than progressives. It is insulting and offensive.

I sometimes feel lucky to live in a state that is so aggressively red that I can just not worry about who I vote for on a national level. My vote in Missouri for president is not worth the paper it’s printed on. Nevertheless, it is infuriating to as a citizen of this country to have these be the options that are put in front of us.
