Hey friends. we’re doing a Q and A episode tomorrow so please send in your election Q’s!

Comments

Chas Coffman

What was the first time you voted? Were there times you felt voting had a larger impact than others? What do you feel will be the most effective way to get rid of gerrymandering and the electoral college, if both parties keep stalling like they usually do on simple gestures of progress?

Bryce Phillips

If Biden does win you all plan to continue doing this right? Some more news and even more news have been one of the few up sides to the last 4 years and I'm not ready to say bye any time soon

Scott Siegal

How do you keep election anxiety down?

Milo Carey

I’m with Josh. What do you think the odds are that Trump will win via the courts - and if he does - what action should we take? What can we do?

Joe Boone

Do you really have hope that things will get better? I live in rural Pennsylvania, and all I see is a sea of Trump signs, flags, Trump loves Coal. I know I'm not seeing America as a whole, just my small piece, but I feel no hope. Any hope I project is just me lying to myself.

Andreas Kjell

What would Ben Shapiro and Jordan Balthazar (Berndt) Petersen do!?!?

Ivan

What do you think will happen if Trump steals the election? Just another 4 years of the same, or is it the beginning of something more substantial (and sinister) down the road? Lighter Q: what’s your coping substance during election night? My sister advised me against alcohol and said I should get an ice cream cake instead

BingoFrog

Is voting third party a viable way to break up the two party system?

brandon

How do we get rid of citizens united?

Troy Ponce de Leon

I try to get people I know to play Texas Fuck Marry Kill. It's the normal rules and your options are Ted Cruz, John Cornyn, and Greg Abbott. Do you have any advice on how to stop pushing away friends and loved ones with upsetting hypotheticals? thanks!

Jesse Gumm

Considering the 2000 election was decided by a margin of only a few hundred votes in Florida, how close do you think a state's race will have to be to be effectively contested by Trump, especially considering the now fully stacked SCOTUS?

Jesse Gumm

Optimistically, let's say Trump is absolutely crushed in the election in an historic rejection of his nonsense brand of American fascism, what do you anticipate would be the lingering effects of this? Trump prosecuted? Trumps downfall bringing his particularly sycophantic republicans down with him? The Republican party becoming (hopefully) a mostly unelectable party?

MahJunior17

Do you think the president will throw out mail in ballots in general if the election does not go his way? The way he and Pence talk about "unsolicited" ballots makes me think they only want to use traditional ballots and will try to push those out all together citing voter fraud.

Chris Combs

Let's say Trump loses the election and refuses to step down. That can manifest in some scary and dangerous ways, but my question is a fun one: what is your ideal comically inept way that Trump attempts to retain power?

Anonymous Unknown

Hypothetically, if any swing states controlled by Republicans decide to throw a second Brooks Brothers Riot or just outright throw out the Democratic vote and decide to send in their own, Republican, electors, and the Supreme Court inevitably sides with them, can anything be done?

David Morin

In my opinion, which I believe is supported by facts, Trump has and is going to have some long term negative impacts on the science community, the environment, morality, human rights, the world opinion of the US, and the economy. He is an abhorrent option for president, given what we know now, which is an opinion, but one that is strongly backed with examples. I am steeling myself for the reality that anywhere from 1/3 to 1/2 the US voting population will vote for him anyways, and there is a real chance he could win re-election. I believe that the political environment is trending towards a winner-takes-all, and win-at-any-cost atmosphere, which will persist. Even if Biden wins, how do we come together and start focusing on the collective interest. If I am with a group deciding dinner, and 1/3 to 1/2 of the group says lets eat the children, even if we end up eating a salad, I don't know how to get to a point where I can bridge the gap of wanting to even interact with this group? This group, in my metaphor, being a insistent, misguided, and unwavering voting multitude. I can appreciate a dissenting position, but not a flagrantly abhorrent one. How do you ever feel comfortable with any vote ever again? How do we keep the democratic party from being the alternative to an option that is terrible, vs. the party that addresses real, needed public policy?

Richard w Bliss

Don't know if you had this question before but this is kind of a long one and I know your and Ben's band is a bit. 1.did Ben Shaperio's cover of WAP break up your band or are you still as strong as ever? Did he ever learn how to please a women or is that still something he does not understand? 2. (this is the serious one) When right wing ideologs do the thing where they do monumentally stupid things that the left can dunk on them for it almost seems to be on purpose to kind of disarm them. (I'm not sure if this is a actual thing, but Rudy seems to do this a lot and Ben as well.) Is this a thing? if we ever get back to a normal non-exploding news cycle would you make a video about this?

How’s Mr Masky doing?

BuddahGunz

When will the world stop being on fire?

Andrew T. Wilson

If Biden wins with the kind of polling numbers we're currently seeing do we have to acknowledge that the moderates were right and accept that pulling support from the middle Right was the best way to win? Do you think that would still be true in a non-Covid world? To put it another way: Is Joe going to win because he's like a grandpa from a warm-hearted TV drama, and would Bernie have lost because he's like a grandpa from a sitcom?

Patreon Supporter

How do you sort out the Qanon dog whistle #SaveTheChildren from the genuine decades old aid organisation of "Save The Children"?

Joe

Poll watching is legal and happens in most elections, but there is likely to be a significant increase in "poll watching" this cycle. What are the limits of legal poll watching? At what point does it cross into illegal voter intimidation? What is our recourse, as individuals and as a society, when people cross that line?

L. Ron Cupboard

Will Trump be charged with obstruction of justice and/or making terrorist threats if he is out of office in January?

Thomas Dinsdale-Young

What do you think will be the effects of the election on the wider world? As a Brit living in Denmark, I'm of course interested in the implications for Brexit - I heard a rumour that Johnson is waiting to see who wins to decide whether to walk away from a deal with the EU. Do you think we are seeing the world (starting to) reject and move away from the latest wave of fascism/far right populism?

Enormous Little Things

In the likely event of right-wing militia lead violence on and following Election Day, should Trump lose the election, do you foresee the police and/or National Guard intervening to stop/apprehend/fight the militias, or do you think the cops/military are inextricably linked to the right-wing movement and militias will essentially be allowed to terrorize American cities?

Clark Sirl

I'm not sure how much you are up on, or care about, UK politics, but do you have any opinions on which election outcome would be more beneficial to the UK?

Geoff Kramer

Are you aware of any organizations which may be planning any mass "just in case" protests after the election? I stopped using social media years ago due to the toxicity and don't really have my finger on the pulse for anything like that.

Joseph Richmond

Hey just a quick question. What is you opinion on The Young Turks. Feels a little cringe to me

NewDark

"How" do we bully Biden left? And if can't, how do we primary him?

Delaney Jade

I can't even formulate a coherent question because my whole brain is just an anxious shriek. I suppose I want to know how y'all are feeling?

Brandie Ecker

Do you find it difficult to watch TV news? I have for the last couple years discovered that I can't stand to hear TV news (pretty much any TV news) because the anchors never tell the whole story (which I've usually already read in written news sources) and never seem to have the appropriate emotional reaction (upset or angry) to what they are discussing (they probably aren't supposed to but it drives me nuts). Your show, Gaslit Nation (by Dr. Sarah Kendzior and Andrea Chalupa, highly recommend) and the random politics/news episodes from the Unpops podcast network are about the only non-written news I can stand to hear since you all have appropriate reactions and give context and the whole story.

mexicanhalloween .

Are you ready to accept that all US elections since labor power was destroyed under mccarthyism are bourgeois electoralism, a kind of legitimizing theatrical manufacturing of consent for the incumbent and only actual party, the bourgeoisie? Are you willing to abandon their controlled opposition sham and start building institutional power that is disciplined enough to prevent co-option using democratic centralism and the mass line?

Michael Davies

Have you listened to the Another Way pod cast?

Dan Minghella

What would a better activist coordination platform (than what billionaires have given us so far) look like?

Travis Hoard

Should Jimmy Dore be taken with a grain of salt?

Avian

Do you think we can keep up this level of voter turn out from now on? If so, do you think we can finally get some of these human catheters out of office?

Michael O'Donnell

How do each of you plan to spend election day? And, knowing that the outcome might not be decided by election night (but then might be claimed a victory anyway), do you have plans for the various possible outcomes? Also, the National Guard was deployed and helicopters circling and police everywhere and curfew etc. here in Philly this week in response to the reaction to police shooting and killing Walter Wallace Jr. Aside from (and in no way diminishing) the overwhelming rage, heartache, and utter disappointment so many are feeling, what kind of effect do you think an event like this and the subsequent fallout could have the entire voting/election situation?

Enkixx

Can we burn it all down now or should we wait till the election is called so we know who we're burning down?

5po0ky

Do you think Elizabeth Warren effectively utilized her political power in 2020 to effect positive change for the Americans who so desperately needed it?

Diana Godin

Maine got to use Ranked Choice Voting in its federal elections this year (we're still working on getting our constitution changed so we can use it for state elections, ironically). Are other states working on this kind of instant runoff ballot, and do you think there's any chance we could see this become the norm?

UrpleDeath

What advantage did FDR have that we don't have now and what would it take to do the kinds of things he did? This should probably be its own spinoff miniseries actually.

Steven Arcangeli

This year California's prop 16 is about repealing a prior prop in order to enable affirmative action. The previous prop prohibited the government from making policies from considering race, sex, color, ethnicity, or national origin. I am conflicted. On one hand, not considering these factors in state policy decisions sounds good. When I first read the text, it seemed like a *protection* from discrimination, much like protected classes for hiring decisions. On the other hand, many people I usually agree with are in favor of this prop, and I know that as a white male I'm probably lacking the perspectives of the people that are strongly in favor. Do you have any thoughts on the matter?

Lydia

If they win, what do the democrats need to do to really turn things around for the better in your eyes? I.e. about the supreme court situation etc

Aaron Eischeid

Maine is using ranked choice ballots this year. what impact does that have on their electoral college votes, and how might that impact broader perception as other states consider adopting this method of voting too.

Geoff Kramer

I just heard Kati on WYE reference an article in which Robert Evans is quoted a lot, but I can't find the article! Can you please give us some more info on it?

Jesse Chambers

What do you think we should do if this does spark armed conflict/civil war?

Jeff Prillaman

If fascist goons show up at polling places to intimidate voters, should we just incinerate them?
