The vaccine patent thing makes me want to gouge out my eyes. Medicine for money kills people every day, and there's hardly any fact of capitalism that hurts my heart more. I'm a type-1 diabetic, so I have long agreed with David on the "conspiracy theory" that pharma wants people sick so they can profit more from their drugs. Did you know that the discoverers of insulin patented it in 1923, then "sold it to the University of Toronto for $1. They wanted insulin to be available to all of those who needed it." That's almost a century ago. People still die from insulin rationing in the richest country in the world because they can't afford a hormone their bodies don't produce through no fault of their own. "The history of insulin highlights the limits of generic competition as a public-health framework. Nearly a century after its discovery, there is still no inexpensive supply of insulin for people living with diabetes in North America, and Americans are paying a steep price for the continued rejuvenation of this oldest of modern medicines." Quotes from https://suiter.com/patent-history-insulin/ & https://other98.com/insulins-inventor-sold-patent-1-drug-companies-got-hold/ [/end of rant]

I've also known for a while that masks aren't needed in most outdoor settings, but I've opted to wear my mask most of the time outdoors A) because I'm immunocompromised, so I've just been on the overly cautious end anyway, B) so that I don't have to think about putting it on when I enter places (simple enough just to don it upon leaving my apartment), C) as a reminder to others that the pandemic is serious and ongoing. But, having received my second dose of the vaccine, I have *just* started to leave the mask off when outdoors. It has been lovely to smell things again.

I’m curious if anyone else is discovering any weird hang-ups as we go back to ersatz normal.. as of yesterday I’m fully vaccinated, but when I’m around people outside I worry I’m making them uncomfortable and end up pulling my mask back up anyway. Excited to shed that particular neurosis, LA is too god damn hot to subject myself to gentle but needless torture.

I really hope the effects of vaccine apartheid don't lead to more wars?We should all know that Bidens foriegn policy has been horrible and it's barely better than Trumps if not worse. Capitalist enterprises are planning on using the virus with manufacturing consent on the left and the right. Following the money is f***ed up. Lets not forget about Blackrocks influence in pretending to care about the climate all of a sudden after funding the Oil companies that have done all of the critical damage to the environment. This is becoming it's own large global force. The richest with all the vaccine supply. That can lead to some truly dangerous territories and the defense contracters are in the mix. Not trying to be synical. That's the impression I get out of the agenda. Farmlands and various sites are being stripped away in multiple countries and these are paid coups that buy the land and "Human Capital" from dictatorships because it's cheaper. Less labor cost and less freedom for the working class means more profit. So basically corperations are colonizing the world just like the good ole days. Truly horrible human rights violations that are being covered up. Create division so you can profit and take while giving less back with a life saving product. That's f***ed up.
