I just wanted to quickly jump in on Katy's point that the prosecutor told Cosby he was free to talk about all of his crimes without being charged. As far as I understand it, this was actually a legal tactic to overcome Cosby's 5th Amendment right against self-incrimination. The prosecutor determined that there wouldn't be enough evidence to charge him criminally, so the only avenue his victim had for justice was through a civil suit. A civil suit would be meaningless however, because Cosby could just plead the 5th to any question and never actually have to admit to anything. By officially taking criminal charges off the table, the prosecutor removed any possibility of self-incrimination, so Cosby couldn't claim answering it would incriminate it. As a result of this, he subsequently lost the civil suit and millions of dollars. The issue the court was dealing with was whether this legally-dubious promise the prosecutor made — he never actually presented it to Cosby officially, or had it signed onto by a judge — was violated when a different prosecutor eventually charged Cosby USING his comments from that civil suit. So it's not so much that the prosecutor shrugged and didn't bother, he was actually pursuing a reasonably smart legal strategy.

I think this is something worth talking about more; maybe with an interview. The court is where all of our battles end up and these issues include lots of racism and class oppression. On the one hand, prosecutors should be held to a higher standard, on the other, most of us can't afford to fight for our rights with millions of dollars. There is a lot of subjectivity and it's often violent and lethal but you wouldn't know how subjective it is from the way these smug bastards state their opinions.
