Hi. Taylor Moore (@taylordotbiz) joins Cody and Jonathan to discuss Russia's war in Ukraine and Texas' assault on trans youth. We also get into the expiration of the child tax credit, Activision-Blizzard's union busting, and that cringey "Dear Mister President Vladimir Putin" poem.

This isn't getting much coverage because of Texas, but the Alabama Senate has approved a proposal trying to ban treatment for trans youth as well. It would need to pass the House to become law but it could easily happen. I am trans, and though I'm an adult I know people with trans children on puberty blockers. We're all scared, and everyone feels powerless to do anything about it.

I think the Russian invasion of Ukraine has been a long time coming. He previously invaded Crimea and saw what the resistance would be like. Granted, I’m not a government official in any capacity and have never been to Russia or Ukraine, nor do I know anyone who is an official or visited those regions or done business within those regions, so my thoughts are solely based upon my, admittedly limited, knowledge of Putin. However, it is my opinion that Putin has long wished for the days of the USSR. I think that with many western countries, not just America, being internally divided, and with Ukraine on the verge of being granted NATO status, he made his move. I personally don’t think sanctions mean much to him and wouldn’t be surprised if some of the sanctions are more performatory than true sanctions. What I mean by that is I don’t understand how the whole of Europe/the world could take such a significant hit on their oil supply realistically. I believe that some of the announced sanctions are more lip service but money and everything is still being exchanged behind the scenes. I don’t think Putin will be satisfied with Ukraine either. He will push for Poland and other countries within the next decade and will likely coordinate a preemptive strike on America via cyber warfare, ie taking down power grids, computer systems, etc. Sorry to be a downer, but I actually think we might see WW3 in the next few decades which isn’t something I thought I’d say a few weeks ago.

This episode was like a PG version of Chapo Trap House

As someone who majored in psych, I cannot believe that Harlow's wire mother experiment got referenced out of the blue like that. What a delightful surprise.

This episode was chalked full of American propaganda. /unsubscribe
