Hi. In today's episode, Katy and Cody talk about that fresh mountain air, the new Joe Manchin-Chuck Schmuer compromise (Build Back a Little?), and the very obvious reasons that Republicans aren't supporting a bill to guarantee same-sex marriage rights.

We're in the process of moving as well. Best of luck to you in your new place and good luck to Jonathan.

I hope things work out for you Katy. With luck, you can help a few people around you pull out of whatever conservative fantasy they are lost in. Just stay safe

I’ve found a lot of common ground with center-right leaning people about how disappointing the Democrats are in terms of promising change, not delivering, using roe v wade as a fundraising opportuny, etc. Once they realize I’m not blindly following Hillary/CNN it sets the stage for a much more productive conversation.

Katy thank you so much for being so open and honest. What you said about LA resonated with me so much - I’ve felt that way before, but have never heard it stated so plainly and effectively. LA is amazing, and overwhelming, and sometimes debilitatingly lonely even though you’re literally surrounded by millions of other people. I visited some friends in Running Springs recently and I totally know that feeling of euphoria that can only really come with being up there in the mountains (Tahoe was my happy place growing up so maybe that has something to do with it). Anyway thanks again for always being so sincere, best of luck with everything!

Katy, I can relate. I was living in Arcata since college with a community that had a lot of shared perspectives to my own. I left for a change of environment and, notably, to move near my parents who had recently retired in Tahoe. Growing up in the East Bay, Tahoe was always a dream place to escape when I was growing up. It has been challenging knowing that the majority of my neighbors have strongly different political beliefs, and living here has generally made making friends a little more challenging (particularly for me as I tend to be a homebody). I've learned to see people first through what we share in common experience, and not let political beliefs get in the way of a good interaction. I've also accepted that to the extent I want to live a political life, it feels more genuine in a lot of ways to be a voice in the minority of my community.

Katy, good luck on the move! I wanted to share a story to hopefully put you at ease. About 6 years ago my mom (huge anti-trumper) moved from a liberal east coast town to a conservative mountain town in Colorado (literally, lauren boebert's district) to be closer to my sister after she had a baby. She had to go through COVID and the 2020 election with a bunch of qanon neighbors. Even with all that, she was able to build a network of people she loves and trusts and loves being a part of her community there. She's even been able to meet and organize with local democrats in her area. There are things she misses about her old life, but now considers that town to be her home. If she can do it, so can you!

Not left, not right, but forward sounds like Kodos and Kang arguing with each other.
