Hi. Jason Pargin (@JohnDiesattheEn) joins Katy and Cody to discuss Ye's disturbing antisemitic comments, Tulsi Gabbard leaving the Democratic Party (say it ain't so!), and the media's insistence on pretending that drug dealers are sneaking rainbow fentanyl into trick-or-treat candy.

Gotta get in on that sweet sweet lunch money action.

Steve Gillow

To emphasize Jason's point, I was trick or treating in the 70's and was told to be concerned about razor blades in candy.

Tulsi Gabbard is an example of how frustrating it is to listen to some right wingers cause it's like "the Democratic party is a cabal of warmongers" like ok cool based... "and so I am going to escape the cancel culture and go to Fox News"... it's like "... you were so close...

There is another aspect to the Opioid Crisis that I've never heard anyone talk about in the news but that I hear about from friends, family, and support groups for people with bipolar and Multiple Sclerosis. That is that the reaction to it is making things worse not better. The rational response would be to treat it like a health problem, to fund more programs to help people deal with addiction and to have better healthcare so people don't have to self medicate. Instead we take our usual puritanical approach to shame people who have a legitimate need for pain medicine and to make laws that make it harder for those people to get the pain medicine they need. People virtually never OD from legitimate prescriptions from competent doctors. Those doctors (like mine) keep track of how many you use and won't refill your prescription if you ask for it too soon. But in California (and I'm sure other states, probably worse in other states) there are now laws that make it much harder to get a prescription for things like Vicodin. Doctors have to fill out a ton of paperwork and most of them just refuse to give pain medicine when they otherwise would. I have Multiple Sclerosis. Before I was diagnosed I was self medicating with alcohol and taking 8 or more Tylenol or Ibuprophin per day. The first doctor I had treated me like a child and wanted me to sign a "pain contract" that promised I would be a good little boy. I told her to get fucked (not quite in that language but almost) and found another doctor who from her profile looked more compassionate. I still expected I would have to do the "pain contract" but at least maybe she would treat me with a modicum of respect. When I asked my new doctor about the pain contract she just smiled and said no that's not necessary. But in the last few years I've talked to so many people, others with MS, people with other illnesses that result in chronic pain, as well as people who have some short term emergency and need pain relief for a few days or weeks and there is so much additional suffering due to the stupid laws passed as a result of the crisis. This happened to my daughter who had oral surgery. I remember when I had it decades ago (before MS). I got Percocet for about a week and really needed it. My daughter's doctor told her to take Tylenol. She was popping an insane amount of those per day (people forget that over the counter pain meds can be very harmful to your liver) and was still in pain and couldn't work. She had never done pot before but she tried that as well but it still didn't really work so I gave her some of my pills and she was able to work while she heeled and only a few Vicodin (one per day) made her recovery so much better. I'm on a web site that is a support group for patients with MS and I regularly hear people say they just can't get pain medicine. When I tell people I take 2 Vicodin per day for chronic pain the response is often that I'm going to get addicted (I've been taking 2 per day for about 20 years now) or that I'm weak or should try acupuncture or pot instead. I can't work when I'm stoned but I don't get high from Vicodin. If acupuncture or pot work for you then good for you but realize everyone is different. I wish this was discussed more... actually at all.

I feel pretty certain that a big part of the razor blades in apples was pushed by the commercial candy manufacturers. The action step was "only trust prepackaged candy" so it didn't merely target fruits, but also any homemade candy. That part I can believe. But the silly conspiracy nut in me wants to say it doesn't stop with Big Sugar, no... they only got their marching orders from the American Dental Association, because more candy means more dentist visits. But it doesn't stop there either! When dentists have more money, they spend more. So really this was all the work of Highlights magazine, which is only found in dentist offices, and the more dentistry grows, the more subscriptions they'll sell.

I love, "John Dies in the End!!" Just rewatched it on Hulu as part of my Halloween movie list.

Ye reads like a guy who's only ever been round monied isolation, hearing the banter of white ppl that know what to not say out loud, cause it's racist. Even through what he's going through, it's still broken telephone of phrases probably picked up in a big room of racists. And I'm guessing they've encouraged him to run. Or that's just ye? :/ saw something bout Elon reaching out to ye after?? I dread what types of reassurances that would bring :/ what a world.

I know I'm a week late and nobody will read this. But the US has the entire drug problem backwards. All eyes on the cartels and the dealers, when the problem is the demand. US demand for narcotics is destroying south and central america. Our shared economic system breeds despair. You want to end the drug problem, help people, don't punish them.
