Hi. In today's episode, we look at how Hungary turned swiftly from a representative democracy into Viktor Orbán's autocratic regime, and how it is absolutely not at all in any way similar to what is currently happening in the United States. Except for, like, all the specific details. Note: At one point, we refer to pre-WWI Hungary as an "Austrian-run place," but Hungary was part of the dual monarchy of Austria-Hungary at this time. I'm sure this video will in no way prove relevant to things here after 7pm Eastern...

If anyone’s curious about some of the details that were omited for brevity in the mid-20th century part of the history lesson, check out this podcast: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/blowback/id1502178774?i=1000538887662 Also, if you guys are doing some more international stuff, have you considered an episode about the other countries that are either backing Putin’s war or staying neutral? Because there are a lot of them, but saying that “the international community” supports things like the sanctions implies that most countries are on board.

I love the use of Drexel from True Romance❤️ Great film! Also, thank you for mentioning how weird it is that no one is talking about this! I've been making a big fuss about that since the convention. Why wasn't that the only thing we saw 24/7??? Sadly, it looks like the big D did, in fact, win; It's been horrifically close, as you know. We are so screwed :(

I knew that Hungary is a democracy in name only, but I did not know any of the media fuckery that Orban got up to. Isn't Seb Gorka(another Hungarian asshole, I'm led to believe), one of TFG's BFFs, often pictured wearing Nazi pins on his jacket or collar? Also, thanks for the history lesson, I would have been angry if I had put on the history grease for nothing. Katy, when you're vacationing in Hungary this year, don't litter. I watch exactly one sport, Formula One racing. There's a Grand Prix in Hungary every year, and I wish that they wouldn't race there. It's a bad look. I heard that they used Hungarian military as security at this past year's race, and they casually beat the crap out of scores of people for littering and other really low level offences.

Thanks for the interesting video. I’m a German and I learned a lot from watching this. Much of the things you were talking about, especially details, I had not heard of. I tend to fade out much of what news report about Orban due to fatigue and frustration about him. I watch the showdy and other media from the U.S. as a means to be more informed about what’s going on outside in the world, and because, as you so beautifully put, we can learn from each other. Thank you again for your work.
