I grew up poor until my parents had an unexpected windfall and we were suddenly upper middle class and moved to a rich area so I had several wealthy peers in high school. Those rich kids were super effed up. One of them, the son of an investment banker, got away with carrying a gun, reckless driving, and threatening to kill his girlfriend senior year (3 seperate incidents mind you.) The reason rich kids seemingly only commit the crimes of stealing from thier peers and parents, statistically, is those are the only crimes thier parents don't bail or bribe off thier records.

Regarding that 11 generations of 8 children each thing, can someone who knows demographics help me out? If my wife and I were to decide to have 8 kids, would you say that I octupled my number? Or did I only quadruple it, since it took two of us to make those 8 kids? It matters a lot over 11 generations: 8 to the eleventh power is like 8.6 billion people, but 4 to the 11th is only 4.20 million. In other words, the difference between the entire world's population in 2050 and the current population of Montreal.

I think that affluenza is a pretty good metaphor, if not an actual psychological condition, to describe rich people. I kind of like the term "money sickness," but we can workshop it. So, if the problem they have is that they've hoarded too much money, how do we unhoard it for them? (In minecraft, of course).

I watched the Ted talk. At the end, PP goes off to say how hopeful he is that rich people are pledging to give away their fortunes, but in actuality, they are just donating their own money to their own charities, paying less taxes, and still getting to choose how the money is spent

So, yeah. $$$ is like booze or any other intoxicant. One can have too much, one needs to moderate, sometimes we need (as members of communities and social groups) to cut each other off. Not because one has to choose either slave or leader in their fantastic RPG fantasy, but because our society and the whole planet degrade to the point of apocalypse if we don't. So, yes. Let's do the much more humane thing and redistrubute wealth. Eating any part of Elon or Jeff or Larry or Vlad sounds, ehhhhh, just, gamey and unsavory.
