Too soon, probably, but I was never the hugest fan of Neal even though I liked Enchanted Forest Baelfire quite a lot... despite them technically being the same character. That said, I think his death scene is handled beautifully, especially the score (oh my 'lanta, the SCORE). I do remember feeling like his death was unnecessary when I first watched this, especially since he is in many ways the whole reason the show happened in the first place with the Dark Curse of Season 1, but looking back I agree with the story the writers said at the time: there wasn't really a great place to take Neal's character. He kind of spent the whole of the Neverland arc chasing after Emma and Henry, and once he found them he probably couldn't become much more without introducing new characters specifically for him (particularly since we knew more or less the full chain of events of his backstory at this point). I also see how those statements are easy to disagree with or attribute to a lack of creativity in writing, though. From what I understand, Neal's actor wasn't all that satisfied with the death of his character either. At the very least, if they felt the need to kill off a character I agree with the trade of Neal for Rumple. What would the show be without Rumple, dearie?? Looking forward to the next one!

I agree if we had to lose one, I'd prefer to not lose Rumple. I liked Neal though, because he was cheeky but genuinely selfless, and emotionally mature. I think that had a lot to do with me not getting super irritated by the love triangle, actually. They had a few moments, but overall, both guys were respectful of both Emma and each other. I've seen Neal's death coming for a while (I know I've mentioned it a couple of times at this point) but the fact Henry has no memories of Neal is such a massive bummer. They didn't spend much time together, but they still had some good times, and wish Henry still had that.
