The animal episode. The good news is that much wildlife has come back and is flourishing in the exclusion zone, especially the bigger mammals like wolves. The bad news is that some of the dogs are turning blue (to be fair most likely due to rolling around in some sort of chemical), and the birds and insects have greatly reduced numbers. There are also anomalies and birth defects showing up as one might expect with long term exposure to radiation. We’ll hope it never gets to the level shown in the X Files season 2 episode 2 ‘The Host’! If you know you know!

As rough as an episode this is, "i need a new phone" is one of the best lines on film after that performance :D

You guys noticed Pyp but did you recognize Dagmar from Game of Thrones? You might not remember his name but he was one of the ones who took winterfell with Theon. He was the third guy with legasov and Boris. He also is possibly my least favorite character in GOT because he killed Maester Luwin who’s also in this show that yall recognized too

FML i just wrote out a much longer comment and hit enter "not connected to internet, refresh and try again" i hate patreon sometimes, you could have left the comment there.... TL;DR - there is a doc about the animals left behind, and it will give you a bit of hope and niceness from this shittiness - "Chernobyl Reclaimed: An Animal Takeover" For many animals, (possibly assuming they dont get too close to the core), the time it will take for the radiation to affect their DNA is longer than their normal lifespan, so they are just living it up in a world without humans. from imdb - "Unexpectedly in the aftermath of this disaster, Chernobyl has become a sanctuary for plants, birds, and animals, including some species thought to be on the brink of extinction. The adventures of a likeable cast of non-human characters give viewers a rare glimpse into a world where wild animals face challenges in an environment totally outside their experience, and once-domesticated pets have learned how to fend for themselves." And the doc is from 2007, so yea things might have very much changed since then of course

At the end there, the 3800 men or so, they were on rotations of 90 seconds each, they only had one shot, one oppertun... basically you dont send them in twice lol, so they were just the final ones rotating through that death trap

Don Della DonDon

Considering the fragility of the insects and most birds it’d make sense that the radiation would have a quick and dramatic effect on their biology. There are photos that show some of the anomalies that are found in the captured specimens if one cares to do a search on the webs. But yeah, life without humans lends to a happier existence for much of the planet. Another example is the DMZ between the 2 Koreas

Also, to your point, the fact that there are still dogs there (blue or not) shows just how resilient nature is and can be

Yes, I'm OLD....🤣 Finally getting back to finish this episode. It was a rough one for sure. The domestic animals were hard enough but then the loss of the children....and that closing scene on the empty crib.

Don Della DonDon

Exactly, all those men didn’t die. They just had the 1 time they could go out there. It took 3800 men to complete the job. That mook that got snagged was probably not so lucky however.

I think Dagmar was in a previous episode as well and they recognized him there but not 100% usre, been a while since that episode now lol

We saw her throwing up in the first episodes and it made us believe she was pregnant. I don’t think it had actually been said out loud though.

One of my favorite athletes is the paralympian Oksana Masters. She was born in 1989 in Ukraine with severe radiation-induced birth defects because of the radiation from Chernobyl. Her birthparents abandoned her in an orphanage where the children were treated brutally. She finally got adopted at age 7 to America where she eventually got her both defected legs amputated and got other treatments to her defects. Now she is one of the most decorated paralympians in the world with 19 medals from the winter games and 6 from the summer games. Such an inspiring story if you want to check her out!
