I think Shanti may have meant that Cobel needed to use her wiles in order to retrieve Petey's chip without being noticed. I took her repeating it over and over as a way to mentally prepare for what she needed to do. Great pick up!

I go back and forth about the houses on Petey's map- Sometimes I think it's the department that people never leave, sometimes I think it might be outside the office where Mark lives since it's still Lumon subsidised housing. I do think Nick's theory about the entire town being part of Lumon has legs- it's a weird place

Shanti (cuchupacu)

just watched the intro. yes, that’s what i meant- and it’s not something i picked up on the first time i watched! phew! i saw another comment about the song and it turns out you guys did know it! 😅 i feel less alone.

Demanda

I have my own theory about what that is but it won’t be relevant until season 2 unfortunately.

In episode 2 the scene where Irv sees the black goop Helly and Dylan are having another conversation that is really easy to miss because we start focusing on Irv and it gradually gets muted out, but Helly asks: Why don’t we always finish the file? Dylan replies: Because they only keep for so long, we finish on average 1 in 5 files before they expire which is better than it used to be before Mark’s Freshman Fluke. Helly then asks what’s a Freshman Fluke. We don’t get to hear the answer.

Shanti (cuchupacu)

yes! i forgot about that and was only paying attention to nick and damo’s comments. that’s a mad scene!

Shanti (cuchupacu)

it IS interesting that ms. casey told irv where burt was, but she wouldn’t have known that if mark hadn’t spilled his coffee on her notepad. as involved as milchick and cobel are w MDR, they probably forgot the book because there are other departments to deal w on the floor (allegedly). i’m the one who made the comment about a different access for unsevered employees and that there has to be a larger lift- at least for furniture and equipment. in episode 2 irv says to dylan: "i can't help that i was hired older than you.” we don’t know if he’s been w lumon for a long time, but he hasn’t been severed for decades. i bet there was a moment while you were watching this episode when you thought hanging kelp was weird. you know, before the corporate art depicting cannibalism and the baby goats.

Maybe worth mentioning that Irv says to Dylan in episode 2 "I can't help that I was hired older than you." and during Helly's Welcome Party he said he's "been working here for 3 years" That's just 1 year longer than Mark. I see your point Damo about if innies know whether they're sick on the outside. Sure if there are physical symptoms like a cold or flu you'd catch on pretty quick, but imagine if your outie had a condition like early Alzheimers or Dementia and hadn't been diagnosed yet. That would be extremely disorienting and confusing especially for the innie!

Demanda

The premise of Severance is that once you quit Lumon your Innie memories are still there inside your head, they’re just now permanently inaccessible to you (“spatially dictated”, meaning you can’t recall them unless you’re physically on the Severed floor) and therefore there’s no threat of you divulging any of Lumon’s secrets. So for all practical purposes your Innie ceases to exist as long as you never return to the Severed floor. So yes, the established expectation is that if you quit your job at Lumon you just go back to living a regular un-Severed life. Like an NDA but ironclad lol

sarina

I always think of Bert and Ernie from Sesame Street when I hear “Burt and Irving” 😂

Perrin

It's ironically funny that Ricken, who is a clown in our world and has written a useless book full of kind of trite platitudes would be so mind blowing for the Innies because they've never been exposed to any kind of critical thinking at all. I think Apple TV published a 40 page version of Ricken's book, it's full of silly "self-learnedness" and "mind-engorging insights."

Julie A

Damo, was that a pun you made when you saw the goat and said “are you kidding” or did you not realize what you said? Either way I thought it was funny!

Don Della DonDon

It’s quite obvious no one hung up the kelp during any of the main characters births!

Julie A

You have a gift! 😂

Susen

I always find it funny that on the outside Ricken is seen as ridiculous (crying over his wife, by how normal his wife is by comparison), he's just not regarded. But on the inside he's becoming their guru and guide to how life is. If only Ricken could feel how revered he is in the innie world. :)

Susen

Ditto!

Krystal

I agree. Ms. Casey seemed genuinely surprised to see Burt in the conference room. I don't think there was a plan to tell Irv

I have to say, for this show, I have zero theories. Like generally, I can come up with something that makes sense but here, I have absolutely no clue what Lumen could be doing or why. Like you think maybe you're starting to put pieces together and then BAM there's goats. None of the scenarios I was considering contained GOATS. haha. It's so wild. I'm just at a loss. But the show doesn't feel off-the-rails like with Lost. I believe there is something intentional and well-thought-out at the core of this show. But with as much information as we've gleaned so far, I still can't even come up with an idea. Personally, I think that's really cool.

Weird Magic

Lost keeps catching unnecessary strays! :)

Weird Magic

I think I've said in Christopher Walken's voice hundreds of times since I saw this episode...."they're friends". No one delivers lines like Walken!

How anyone could watch this show and think Ricken is anything more than a buffoon is way beyond me. That said, I totally get someone like Devon ending up with him. I can't explain it. Like, he's a giant goof but kinda charming in a goofy way. In this universe, it somehow makes perfect sense to me. Also, baby goats have entered the chat 😄
