Random aside: I used to work in a furniture store with dozens of fake plants as part of the vignettes, and let me tell you, they collect dust like nothing else. Every time I watch the scene with Burt and Irving I wonder: who the hell is dusting all these plants every day?? 😂

Hmm that's not how I took Dylan saying "Are we good here?" I think Milchick came to Dylan's house and said he needed to speak to his innie about a work matter urgently, so they tried to occupy his kid and wake innie Dylan in the closet to minimise how much he learns about his outie- reeeally backfired! Makes you wonder what's so important about that card innie Dylan took from O&D

Gaby

Love, how Damo always is looking forward with a big smile at the start of filming a new episode of Severance.

tiramisujen ≽^•⩊•^≼

You guys had a discussion in the intro about what the heck it is that Lumon does. I kinda think what they do- is Severance. I think Severance *is* the product. We saw Devon looking up Gabby and her Senator husband who advocates legalising Severance, is that for other applications than work? I'm sure there absolutely would be interest in it a paid service as a way to not have to go through painful and potentially traumatic experiences- like childbirth. No idea what the Innies are working on, I'm leaning towards it all being a social experiment.

Demanda

Remember that the outies know who Milchick is and that he works at Lumon- Mark called in sick to him that time- so he doesn’t necessarily have to be spying on Dylan specifically. It does get confusing trying to remember who is severed and who isn’t and who knows whom lol. So far the show indicates that Milchick, Ms Cobel and Graner are not severed, and everyone else on the severed floor is. Although as this show mentions, Ms Casey is only a part-time severed worker.

tiramisujen ≽^•⩊•^≼

You can 3D print metal :P It's just way too expensive for a hobbyist to do- Lumon likely has the money for it!

Demanda

Ms Cobel says that Ms Casey is a part-time innie and “not as sophisticated as Mark” or something along those lines. My assumption is that that indicates Ms Casey is just a part-time worker and hasn’t been “alive” as long as the others (aka, spent as many hours active as her severed self) and is sort of a “younger” innie. Or maybe I’m just assuming that’s what she meant because Ms Casey is so weird. But then again even the un-severed people on this show are weird as hell. 😂

Walter

Not saying your theory isn't correct about Milchick and Dylan having a close relationship in real life, but I kinda just assumed that Milchick had come to Dylans house and said something along the lines of: "Hi I work for Lumon and I need to speak with your innie, it's an emergency", which would explain why Dylan would say "Are we good here?" afterwards.

As someone who’s seen this show multiple times, I don’t like commenting because I don’t want to accidentally spoil something or say anything that might give away too much information. The only thing I will say is that episode 7 is one of my favorites from season 1 and I’m excited for you guys to see it too ☺️

CK

Are you taking a break between seasons 1 and 2? I highly recommend that you do, just to give yourselves time to absorb it before jumping into season 2

sarina

It’s soooo well written!!

CK

Mark and Mrs Selvig live in Baird Creek, named after Baird Eagan. I have the feeling Burt is a player and this isn’t his first office romance

Ambrosia

The plant room seems silly, but I would think that since these people likely don't see plants since they don't even see outside (since their outtie is the one who is awake outside), that that room is pretty magical for them, even if the plants are all fake. It's as close to nature as they can get inside this building! Romantic even!

CK

You guys don’t laugh as much as I’d expect at Rickon’s book quotes. They certainly sound like words of wisdom to the innies, and something can be gained from it, but it’s mostly nonsense and makes me chuckle.

CK

Mark was only drinking water at the restaurant with Alexa

CK

The scene with all of MDR walking down the hall to O&D to that music is powerful, you can just feel the energy of the team united.

Hefty517

I was already hooked on this show, but the Dylan/Milchick scene, combined with the implications of the scene with Devin & Gabby made me obsessed. The idea that the innies can be accessed anywhere, basically sleeper agents, blew my mind with the possibilities & ramifications. This is one of those shows that the more I think about it, the more fascinating it becomes for me.

Melissa Redstag

I am a big time believer in the “this is your life, do what you can with it” philosophy he talks about on the date. Too bad he didn’t stick with that idea with the severance.

Melissa Redstag

My first thought of the medical thing was a child also. Made something used for premature babies in the ICU? And the child didn’t survive so she keeps the medical thing as a reminder. Maybe that’s why she throws all of herself into Lumon and Keir. Dylan is such a great character, he’s so funny and I love his confidence.

Krystal

And Milchick wouldn't even have to do much of an introduction. The outies know who milchick is. Remember when Mark spoke to him on the phone when he called out from work?

Krystal

That's probably why he was livelier and being a better conversationalist than on their first date

Krystal

Respectfully disagree

Shanti (cuchupacu)

the plant room, the goat room, and the idea that the severed floor is so vast and hard to map make me think of gormenghast (the gormenghast trilogy by mervyn peake).

Shanti (cuchupacu)

when milchick is talking to dylan in his closet, he says, “you have no idea how sensitive this information is. if someone paid you to smuggle out that card…” this makes me think of the break room tape petey had. does lumon know who might be smuggling things out? how much of that is going on beyond the petey situation? “we good here?” is used commonly in the states to mean “are we done w this?” i don’t know about you guys, but i’m always pausing videos to read texts and study details. i recommend checking out those articles about senator arteta and taking a closer look at ms. cobel’s shrine/altar. speaking of reading, there are two free companion texts available through apple books which help flesh out the show’s world. i mention them now because they were published before S01 E07 first aired. you can check them out now or between seasons, as you did w GOT lore videos. they’re considered canonical. “the lexington letter” an account sent to a newspaper by a severed lumon employee. it contains no spoilers, gives some insights, and brings up more questions. you can think of it as running parallel to what we see on the show. “the macrodata refiner's orientation booklet” helly flips through it in S01 E02. among other things, it lists the four tempers and nine core principles. it was sent to the paper w the lexington letter. praise kier.

QuasiRNG

Severance within severance within severance 😂.

TLC

Quick question...was the song Cobel hummed to the baby tge same tune she sang to the group? So its not the just the elevator... they can turn off the severance when ever they want. Are the goats severed?🤣

Sheri

Phew! Just finished binge watching all your Severance reactions so I'm finally caught up! You guys are SO SMART and perceptive and creative with all your theories! Can't wait for you to find out which ones (if any) were correct! :-)

tiramisujen ≽^•⩊•^≼

Absolutely! She’s humming the “Kier, chosen one kier! Keir, brilliant one Keir!” Song- so freaking creepy.

tiramisujen ≽^•⩊•^≼

Yeah the tape Petey had intrigued me too. I still think it’s possible there’s an unsevered mole working at Lumon that helped him. My suspects for that are either Bert (I go back and forth on if I think he’s really severed) or if Reghabi used to work there maybe she got it out somehow, I don’t think she’s severed. The other option is that they were being super literal when they said that the code detectors are for written symbols, Milchick thought Dylan managed to get the card out- it was just images. Also Helly was able to take the cd with her video message up the elevator! Maybe Petey managed to smuggle it out without help

TLC

Absolutely

SierraNicole

Yay! Got a shout out! :) Thanks for reading my comment about how confused I am about this show. haha. Also, I just want to take a second to praise Patricia Arquette who plays Cobel/Selvig. I've always like her but I think she does a great job in this show. She's got a lot of presence. And she plays unhinged well. Like not just in the moments where her rage breaks through...in her more subtle moments as Mrs. Selvig, too. She's great.

Nikki_KnotDoneYet

Watching on catchup, first time watching the series. What I’m most curious about is to see if Dylan’s innie now knows that his outie has a kid and how that knowledge impacts him on the job—“is that my kid?”

Kimberly LeBarron

We just finished this episode last night, and this is what I said to my husband! Hmmmm...

Ellyana Smith

Show so good I had to buy a higher tier just so I could watch your reactions sooner 🤣 Can't wait for the end of the season!!

In the Northeastern US, especially Pennsylvania and New York State there were a huge amount of company towns formed a socio-economic experiments in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. They controlled many aspects of worker life. Housing was owned by the company (factory, mine, etc.) workers might be paid with company script, which was only good in the company store, so all your household items and groceries were also only made available through company. The more famous ones, like Hershey, PA were founded by a single man with vision. Hershey was designed as a model town, named after its founder, and centered around a chocolate factory. In Severance, I think we are seeing what happens if a company town had an extremely charismatic and cult-like leader and was so successful that it survived into the 21st century. Although it may have started as a concept of caring for workers as “family” we see what happens when that control stretches to extremes and becomes sinister. We’ve seen a neighborhood, a restaurant, and now in this episode a school, all name after previous CEOs. (Company towns formed in the UK in the same time period but weren’t as common as in the US - where obviously we have a lot more land to build model towns - see history of Cadbury and Unilever for examples in England)
