Can't wait to watch this! To me, one of the best finales of all time!

tiramisujen ≽^•⩊•^≼

Damo there was a concerted effort to explain that line in multiple different ways specifically to make sure this reaction was as much of a bombshell as we experienced first time watching! 🤣

Michael

LETS GOOOO

Melissa Redstag

Omg thank you for not making us wait till next week!

tiramisujen ≽^•⩊•^≼

Jame said "It had the blue and green lights on it back then" does that mean it has different coloured lights now? Why did they change them? Helena chose to wear a blue and green dress, is her vision different from Jame's?

Demanda

I think the purpose of showing Cobel’s personal moments isn’t to outright tell us her motives at Lumon, I think it’s to illustrate that the whole Kier-worship aspect isn’t just a lie that Lumon made up to peddle to the workers and keep them in line; people working there actually believe it. Cobel has that shrine and recites the pillars when no one is watching her but us (I mean as far as we know lol). In Jame’s private conversation with who he thinks is his daughter Helena he expresses his own belief in Kier. These aren’t just greedy corporate suits using a religion as a tool, these people actually believe what they’re saying. Or at the very least, are willing to pretend to for their own purposes. At this point in the series, my thinking was that Cobel was probably indoctrinated as a young person considering the Myrtle Eagan School for Girls plaque, and the fact that she had the shrine but also seemed to be frequently disobeying the board . The fact that she expresses such rage at Lumon when fired means at minimum she has a complicated relationship with the Kier of it all, and the show isn’t ready for us to know exactly what those nuances might be. Does she have a secret agenda that’s been thwarted? Is she simply taking risks to try to advance at the company? Does she have some fanatical mission only she understands? I also theorized that if there’s an Eagan school for girls, it’s logical there’s one for boys too. That was my theory for why Milchick is so weird despite not being severed. I think he may have attended such a school or been born into this cult, but like Cobel we don’t really know if he’s a true believer or has his own motivations for what he does. Graner and Natalie both give me those vibes too, whilst the few people we see Mark interact with on the non-severed floors seem more typical office grunts. But maybe that’s just because we don’t really see them for any length of time? I don’t know, but I can and have spent hours upon hours thinking about all of this. 😂

Sheri

Amazing reaction! Yes, you've seen Helena's father before. When MDR visited the perpetuity wing, he was the first wax statue they saw, and someone mentioned he was the current CEO. Helly gave the statue an odd long stare, perhaps feeling that he looked familiar!

Sheri

The 3 year wait between seasons 1 and 2 had to do with a writer's strike and also Covid, I believe. The wait was TORTURE!

sarina

I could SCREAM!!! I watched the episode last night because I thought we’d have to wait a few more days but I’m so happy 😭 This entire episode is so tense and well written! The ending cliffhanger is so good I started watching the show after season 2 was fully released, so I didn’t have to wait the years everyone else did and now I’m feeling the pain waiting for season 3 🥲

Erin’s Cafe

Listening to you talk about the funny bees made me realize some things. Ricken says so many weird things and I think we kind of just let them slide because he’s so odd, but I’m starting to think there aren’t any throwaway lines in this show. I’ve been assuming that outies live in the “real” world, but like…nothing about the outside feels normal either. And with the Kier regional map, I’m more convinced that we have no idea who is severed or where Lumon’s influence ends.

tiramisujen ≽^•⩊•^≼

Irv and Burt bonded initially over art, then we find out outie Irv is a painter and has Burt’s address? I think Irv has worked at Lumon way longer than he has been in MDR. I think he used to be part of O&D as the artist making the paintings for the departments and that he and Burt fell in love before. I think Lumon transfered Irv to an other department and erased their innie memories of each other. I've no confirmation they can do that but there are hints throughout the season that they can and it seems very plausible to me!

damo- i said that the miracle comment milchick made was likely the type of thing new cult members hear. they’re made to feel special to the mission of the group, which is nothing less than saving humanity. the work is mysterious and important! that’s true, but i also wanted to throw you off the scent of helly being someone special. nick- in the episode one outro you mentioned lumon having fingers in many pies and i screamed! devon tells mark “lumon has their hands in so many pies.” about helly’s being the fastest turnaround of a resignation request, damo talked about “the eagerness of her outie to keep her there.” it was actually eaganness keeping her there. womp womp. helly’s father is jame eagan. (he mentions his “revolving,” about which i have some theories.) maybe he doesn’t make many public appearances and that’s probably why arteta said “thank your father if you see him.” beyond that, it shows that even an influential politician doesn’t have access to the lumon CEO. in episode three they mention that myrtle eagan told her father she’d be the first woman president. it’s an interesting parallel to helena telling her father she wanted everyone to have a severance chip. gabby arteta said “you just don’t realize how much kids are going to change your life, but they do.” it was a broad remark, not about helena specifically. i think “funny bees” is an inside joke that came out of a shared experience. it just illustrates how close the four of them were. rebeck was one of the pretentious guests at the dinnerless dinner party in episode one. charlotte cobel’s DOB is visible on the hospital bracelet in harmony’s shrine. funny you should mention belly buttons… when oh when will you read “the lexington letter”? it’s free, illuminating, and short!

Shanti (cuchupacu)

OH. MY. GOD. i never thought of irv having been an artist for lumon!

CK

I think they’re red and blue now?

CK

So much fun to see you guys reacting to this episode. Every time I watch it, my whole body is tense even though I now know what’s going to happen. I think it’s a credit to the writing and direction, this episode just keeps us at the edge of our seats. And that ending, wow. I was one of the many who had to wait three years for season two. During that time I rewatched the first season over and over (sometimes in Spanish lol), listened to podcasts and joined the subreddit to pick apart the show and theorize about what would be revealed next. I can’t imagine just rolling right into season 2, so it will be fun to watch that experience. I can’t wait! Praise Keir!

tiramisujen ≽^•⩊•^≼

I think so too, the red feels like the other colour that keeps popping up, the light above the testing floor, Mark’s pjs in the intro, and I’m pretty sure he has two fish that are red and blue. Definitely think the colours mean something

tiramisujen ≽^•⩊•^≼

Since Damo mentioned it so often I kept a look out for Carol D on the List of Severed Employees that outie Irv had- She's there, full name Carol Deelay, and there's a question next to her name "Is she married"

TLC

I got something right!!! I said after last episode I had a theory about Hellly and I was right. She's an Eagan! What an incredible season ender! I'm in awe of this series and have no idea how the OG fans waited 3 years for the next episode. I still say there is more to Coble than we know. She said to Milcheck she will stop Helly and save everything like she always does. There has to be a reason she is so invested not only in the company but the Severance process specifically. She is obsessed with the reintegration. The Board says its impossible and she seems to want it to be impossible but she knows about Petey...to me she appears to want to understand it so she can stop it.

Gaby

I like your theory! 😀

Gaby

💪It's so exciting, when a theory is proofen right in this crazy show.

Gaby

It's so interesting, that Damo thought the sentence, Ricken mentioned about the funny bees, was somehow weird. In that moment my brain remembered something. When Dylan activates the Overtime Contingency, he has to scroll through some other names. And the first name is Beehive! He even mumbles:"Beehive". So maybe the the funny bees, Ricken was telling about, really mean something! I never would have made that link, if Damo didn't mention it. I became very curious and made screenshots from the scene, when Dylan is scrolling through the names to get to Overtime. The names we can see are: - Beehive - Branch Transfer - Clean Slate - Elephant - Freeze Frame - Glasgow - Goldfish - Lullaby - Open House - Overtime

Julie A

I was so worried he was going to figure out Helly in advance!!

Gaby

I can't post the pictures here, so I will post them in the chat.

Liam D

How about that for a debut season! This show created such an awesome world that all of us that watched way back then were ready to dig deeper into!... And then there was a nearly 3 year gap between the season 1 and 2 releases. It was painful, the show lost a lot of its status in the public eye, that cliffhanger lasted for SO LONG and I honestly forgot about it! Even after all that, season 2 is when this show EXPLODED, it was all that was talked about online when new episodes dropped, and it was in my opinion, as excellent, if not more, than the first season. Enjoy lads!

Julie A

There was a 3 year wait because the writers couldn't agree with how season 2 should go. Then the writers/directors strike started. It had nothing to do with Covid. They filmed the first season at the height of Covid. And I think we should all give credit to Ben Stiller for being such an amazing director! He also had to jump through hoops to get the higher ups to agree to let Adam Scott be the lead character. They weren't convinced he could pull of the serious role, but Ben Stiller knew he would be fantastic!

Julie A

Not Covid. It was the writers disagreeing on how season 2 should go (and the strike).

Don Della DonDon

If you haven’t picked up on the nefarious aspects of Lumen before, you certainly have now

Gatsby

Great fact about the episode: the episode's length is the exact amount of time the innies had in the outside world.

Blake

Imagine waiting 3 years for season 2… talk about torture

Julie A

I loved that you mentioned the cult thing! 😂

tiramisujen ≽^•⩊•^≼

Yeah I’ve seen a few reactors sus it and it makes me feel real dumb lol I did not latch onto that line in the same way. I do still think all 4 MDR employees are super important and potentially hand picked by Lumon

Julie A

I hate to admit I never even paid attention to the line about it being a miracle that she started working there. And they even showed it again in at least one recap. Probably more. I never figure anything out in advance!

tiramisujen ≽^•⩊•^≼

Agreed, I think I was getting enough cult vibes from Lumon that I dismissed it as something they’d say to everyone! My copy doesn’t have the recap either lol and that’s a reason I don’t really like recaps, if I have the option to skip them I usually do

tiramisujen ≽^•⩊•^≼

Since it's been mentioned now I feel like I can say- I think the system functions "Clean Slate" and "Branch Transfer" support my theory. I also hope that "Elephant" is a way to restore a "Clean Slate" and maybe they will some day get to remember

Shanti (cuchupacu)

well, i’ve been fascinated by scientology and mormons for over twenty years and more recently NXIVM. i definitely see a cult situation in lumon. kier eagan’s personality seems very different to joseph smith’s, but they’re both mythologized the same way.

Shanti (cuchupacu)

same w the repeat watching. i love the feel of season one and it seriously helped me cope w some things. i never thought of watching it in spanish, but i should check if i can watch in turkish!

TLC

I have developed thories on a lot if these names but there are a couple that are beyond my imagination 🤣

Ambrosia

I didn't notice it on my first watch through, but when Irv is driving down the road and stops at the stop sign while Cobel is whipping around the block, it's all dark around and the shot shows it's all focusing on the center where a red traffic light is blinking. It looks so so similar to Irv's paintings! I love that shot. Gabby's third birth... Yeah, That is a *perfect* way for them to market to a bigger market. Something like: 'Imagine not remembering the pain and trauma of childbirth, but having all of the happiness with your children'. So so many people would sign up for that! And that's just one of the marketing ploys that I'm sure they can use. Imagine what other ways they're going to market to the rest of the world! Them having Helena Eagen about to say how much she "thinks of her innie as her sister". How purely sinister and evil when we've seen Helly's outtie say to her "you are not a person". They just want that world domination, they do not care about the greater good. The want control. Evil. Ahhh I'm so so happy you gents are here! The first time I was watching this episode, I was in the hospital nd my heart rate monitor kept going off through the episode and causing those poor nurses to come in and making sure I wasn't having some sort of cardiac event🤣🤣

David Hamrick

The most stressful thing this whole season, and especially this episode, has been worrying about how in the hell Dylan's glasses stay on his face! I mean how?

CK

Irving didn’t have any dialog until he was banging on Burt’s door. Really well acted and directed.

CK

Her outtie told her she wasn’t a person but at the gala, her outtie says they’re family and Natalie reminds her to say how she sees her innie as her sister. I assume Helly picked up on that hypocrisy right away. And seeing the photos of her macrodata family is similar to Dylan looking at the cube of them, a reminder to help them get through the tough things they have to do during the OTC.

Nikki_KnotDoneYet

I don’t think Cobel had plans to take the baby with her— lots of people put infants in the bucket part of their car seat while inside to keep the baby safe/safely positioned upright when they need a break from holding them or just to put them down to free up their hands to get something done.

Julie A

For some reason I am also fascinated by cults.

Kathryn Ellis

Your outie likes the sound of Radar.

Nicole

Wow, I have seen this episode so many times and never realized that!

Mike Iorio

Can’t wait for this reaction!!!!!

Mike Iorio

That’s incredible… having seen both seasons, I can’t imagine anyone but Adam Scott playing this role!!!
