Woe is one of the 4 Tempers yeah, they are: Woe, Frolic, Dread and Malice. The other ones you’re thinking of are Lumon’s 9 Core Principles which can be seen in Cobel’s shrine she had: I was blind till you gave me Vision, I was languid till you gave me Verve, I was simple till you gave me Wit, I was peevish till you gave me Cheer I was vain till you gave me Humility, I was cruel till you gave me Benevolence, I was gawkish till you gave me Nimbleness, I was false till you gave me Probity, I was dim till you gave me Wiles, I was Me till you gave me You. So the 9 which we also saw Cobel reciting when she went to get Petey’s chip are: Vision, Verve, Wit, Cheer, Humility, Benevolence, Nimbleness, Probity and Wiles. So creepy, can’t think anything but cult tbh!

tiramisujen ≽^•⩊•^≼

"GLASGOW" Was the name of one of the System Functions we saw when Dylan was setting up the Overtime Contingency. This is why I'm obsessed with the other ones we saw and trying to work out what they could possibly be lol

tiramisujen ≽^•⩊•^≼

Yeah the protest was from the "Whole Mind Collective" opposing severance. When Mark went to Petey's daughter June's gig he was told off for taking a video and we thought then that it might be a sort of underground resistance. Could be a few that Outie Irv is working with, I'd love it if June comes back into it :)

tiramisujen ≽^•⩊•^≼

If the insomnia to pass messages through works- did Outie Irv get the message through to Innie Irv that Helena Eagan was in there? He probably would have seen her public statement/apology explaining away Helly R's comments at the Gala and maybe worked it out from that?

tiramisujen ≽^•⩊•^≼

Apparently the writers were a bit pissed off that a large percentage of the audience guessed it was Helena from episode 1

Julie A

I thought that was so funny. They thought it was going to be a huge reveal when it was pretty obvious imo!

tiramisujen ≽^•⩊•^≼

Yeah I think it was just too suspicious that Lumon would actually put Helly R back on the Severed floor. I guess Britt Lower just did too good a job playing both characters 😅

Julie A

A lot of people worked out at the end of the first episode of this season that Helly fumbled to find the on/off switch for her computer when they all decided to start working again. Like Tiramisujen said, the writers weren’t expecting people to discover the little clues along the way. There were more, but I can’t remember them.

Julie A

I’d never seen her before Severance, but she’s very good. I loved how her expression towards Irv turned briefly sinister when they were in the tent.

Julie A

Damo, I laughed when you said Milchick never has anything under control. So true! 😂

Don Della DonDon

Seriously, look at the people taking care of the goats. Where did they find those folks?

MB

Be warned, this is a long comment! As someone who watched the show in real time, I have a slightly different perspective. I think the Helena/Helly reveal was more subtle than some here suggest. There was an almost three-year gap between Seasons 1 and 2, which is a long time for viewers to forget Helly’s exact mannerisms and reactions. Season 2 episodes also dropped week to week, so even as the season aired, you weren’t seeing an immediate continuation of the character. You were interacting with the show through intermittent gaps. I remember most people picking up that something was “off” with Helly in Episodes 1–3, and there was certainly speculation that she was really Helena, but I don’t agree that it was “so obvious.” Obvious that something was wrong, yes, but not necessarily obvious that she was Helena Eagan. There was a lot of time to second-guess yourself. Even Damo did it for a split second when he thought “Helly” was going to reveal her outie to Mark after they had sex. One moment, you’d think, “Would Helly act like that?” The next, she’s helping Mark with the goat people, which the real Helly would absolutely do. You start to wonder, “If it’s not her, how is she going to keep this act up for eight hours a day, every single day?” Keeping that in mind, I think the show dropped these clues in just the right way, considering how impactful the wait between Seasons 1 and 2 was. You're supposed to be suspicious of her. If they had been very subtle, I think the reveal in Episode 4 would have felt like it came out of nowhere for viewers watching in real time. Finally, I don’t think Helena’s performance was ever meant to be flawless. Humans rarely are that convincing, especially when they’re impersonating someone rather than simply lying. Helena may be in line to become CEO, but she isn’t an actor. She can study the footage, copy Helly’s mannerisms, and anticipate how she might respond, but eventually the cracks are going to show. What we’re seeing is Helena’s idea of Helly, not Helly herself. And that distinction matters because it points back to one of the show’s central questions: Are Helly and Helena truly two different people, or are they still shaped by the same person underneath?

MB

And 2 little details that I think are important: 1.) When Irv walks up behind Helena at the waterfall he says, "Hey kid." The real Helly would know to respond, "What's for dinner?" Helena simply acknowledges him. I read this as a last ditch attempt to confirm her identity. 2.) Go look at the computer screen in Irv's dream very closely. At first they are all numbers (1-5-7-14), but they transform into a mixture of numbers AND letters that spell E A G A N.

Shanti (cuchupacu)

i don’t think outie irv’s nighttime painting worked subconsciously as he’d hoped. instead, innie irv put the pieces together based on what he saw during the OTC. he realized outie irv was investigating something and must’ve been very wary and observant once he went back. he didn’t trust “helly’s” story from the jump and he’s been watching her. in his dream woe is sitting in helly’s place at the desks (in relation to him). i think that helped him figure out who she was. don’t forget the resignation rejection and helly coming back after the elevator incident, which would’ve supported his reasoning. lastly, helena has been calling him irving instead of irv.

Shanti (cuchupacu)

damo: “hopefully they put it out there for us in a really slow and easy to understand way.” severance: your request was denied. ricken was hanging kelp at the cabin. kale does nothing for births! petey said he reintegrated w ppl who weren’t the whole mind collective (the kids w the flyers). reghabi doesn’t seem to be working w irving, but he’s obviously working w someone. how dare you question the ORTBO name? lol lumon love an acronym! this is the kind of stuff cults do w stilted language and insider jargon only members understand.

TLC

An Elephant never forgets keeps ringing in my mind. The others...well I have theories lol.

tiramisujen ≽^•⩊•^≼

Yeah I think it's from the OTC as well, it would just be interesting if the sleep deprivation helped. Might just be wishful thinking on my part as I always hoped that it would work and be a mentioned of communication that even Cobel doesn't know about since she's the only one in Lumon saying reintegration is possible

tiramisujen ≽^•⩊•^≼

Yep that's exactly what I thought too! My theory is that Lumon keep denying reintegration is possible and this function is one that performs it. For Clean Slate I think that this is basically like the guys were talking about can they just wipe the innie's chip and start over. I actually think that this has happened to Irv before and that he was previously the artist making the paintings for O&D, that he and Burt had already fallen in love before and instead of just terminating him they wiped his innie and put him in another department. They’ve mentioned the new team in episode 1 were “Branch Transfers” I think that refers to the system function. In actual Beekeeping there’s a distinction between a bee nest and a hive. Hive is used to describe a man made structure created to house a honey bee colony. I think that kinda feeds into the idea that the entire town is manufactured by Lumon and all the citizens are the honey bees.

tiramisujen ≽^•⩊•^≼

I'd love to hear your theories on them as well :) It's probably the thing I'm most obsessive over

TLC

Clean Slate we are in agreement..its wiping the memory of the individual. A reset and they can plug them in somewhere else as if they just woke up. I've never worked out the Beehive but I like where you went with it. Also I thought about the concept of a hive mind. Need to give it more thought. I dont remember all of them but Lullaby could be a way to put the innie to sleep or turn them off temporarily and Fishbowl I think ot might have something to do with short term memory since goldfish are supposed to have no long term memory.

Susen

This is a little thing, but I laughed when you said Sleepy Hollow was a place in a video game. I mean, it's a real town in New York and most famous as the location from the story of the Headless Horseman who haunted Sleepy Hollow.

tiramisujen ≽^•⩊•^≼

Yeah I was thinking hive mind as well, but wasn't sure how to make it fit in! (remind me end of season as I know this is your first time watch!) Yeah I thought the same with Lullaby and Goldfish, maybe goldfish could be like if they need an innie to do something dubious as a one off and that lets them know they'll forget within 24 hours? I also thought Open House was an interesting one, because here that has only 1 meaning- like when you're selling a house you open it for viewings, but I know that State side that's what a parent teacher conference is called hmm 🤔

Susen

The goat imagary goes back to the waffle party as well - one of the dancers in the masks wears a goat's head.

Krystal

I agree. I think it’s “obvious” if you’re binging the series. But if you’re watching week to week after waiting 3 years, it’s not that obvious

Cameron

Yeah and so that's why he woke up with so much conviction and like he was on a mission because it was like an epiphany that she was an Eagan which he realized from his dream.

Cameron

On Helly being Helena, at the end of episode 2 when she was entering the elevator Damo said he was looking out for anything different, and you actually did miss something. For everyone else, when they went into the elevator and the doors closed, there was a chime, presumably meant to represent the switch from outie to innie. But with Helena, after she goes into the elevator there is no such chime.

Christine13

The reason I think Helena went to the waterfall was that even though she was poking fun at the twin story in front of the others, the Eagan mythology is very meaningful to her and the waterfall is like a spiritual place for her and her family.

sarina

One of my theories has been that outtie Irv knows about the Testing Floor and that’s why he draws those paintings over and over again to try and get the image stuck in his mind in the hopes it’ll go through to his innie. I wasn’t sure if it was silly but I’m happy I’m not the only one with that theory!

TLC

I didn't remember open house. You're correct in that it is most often associated with resudential real estate sales. It's use in american schools is usually more about opening the school to parents and students near the beginning of the school year. The parent teacher conferences can be held in conjunction with the open house but not always. I do like your take on the goldfish.

tiramisujen ≽^•⩊•^≼

I wonder if Open House could be to do with swapping or viewing the innies consciousness.. in season 1 we theorised quite a lot about if when Cobel took Petey's chip she would put it in someone else.

Sheri

Yes! DO IT, SETH!!!

TiMthisIS

It feels like some of the multiples that they use are related to that as well. Like the 18 minutes family session.

TiMthisIS

Needs more THHHHHH!!

TiMthisIS

I saw somebody else make the observation it's interesting that this was the first time the innies ever would have had a chance to experience sleep or dream except for Irv's nodding off goo dreams.

tiramisujen ≽^•⩊•^≼

I agree Outie Irv has to know, Irv is my favourite character I need so much more of him in season 3 and some answers hmmph!

TLC

Hadn't thought of that..or perhaps a way of bringing a group of innies together and sharing/viewing at the same time like that school open house. Do you know or remember the names of Ricken's weird colleagues from the University? There is something wrong with this group and I am playing with a theory.

tiramisujen ≽^•⩊•^≼

From the University? I don't remember University mentioned with Ricken, but his weird friends from the dinner with no dinner and the book reading are Rebeck and Patton's the one who took credit for finding their baby lol

sarina

Yes!! Irv grew to be my favorite character so quickly. If our theory is correct, hopefully that means we’ll see him throughout the entirety of the show! ☺️

Michael Weiner

1, 5, 7, 14 are the letters of the alphabet that spell Eagan, A E G N

Michael Weiner

I was yelling at the screen hoping they'd notice, but alas no.

Julie A

I waited 2 years to watch the 2nd season. I wouldn't have sworn in a court of law that it was Helena, but I strongly felt it was. Why would Helly have been thrust back in there and then agree to keep working if she had the choice to leave at the end of the day? She spent all of season 1 trying to escape. And the fact that she didn't know how to turn the computer on really cinched it for me.

Erin’s Cafe

It just occurred to me that maybe the innies get in trouble for sleeping because the implant cant control what information makes its way into your dreams? Which would make the idea of this overnight work trip kind of wild and risky. Just thinking out loud here, not sure if there’s anything to this idea.

Shanti (cuchupacu)

i rewatched the scene w irv’s dream. the numbers on the monitor turn into the letters in EAGAN. there’s a moment when they turn into a face and then an eye. it must’ve looked like helly to irv.

I think Irving's dream helped him realize that she wasn't Helly R., but her outie, because the "half the height of a natural woman" was sitting in Helly's seat.

Jackson Potluck

ok this is bugging me way more than it should but here we are. They did not write Milchick into the mythology or religion. All they did was color Kier's skin darker in some paintings. That's it. The canonical texts/paintings etc. are still the same. Kier's still a white man. There is no ancestor of Milchick's in any of this. It's literally JUST a couple paintings that were changed. Natalie got the same paintings. You understand that they give these exact same paintings to all black employees. Natalie also is not descendant from a founder or whatever. She was not written into the religion. It is JUST some paintings that were probably painted over in a darker color. That is it.

Mike Iorio

Damo it’s pretty impressive how early you spotted that Helly R was really Helena! That caught me completely by surprise when I first watched this!

Mike Iorio

This makes me feel a lot better about being blindsided by the plot twist when this first aired!
