Demanda

The last time you guys saw Fields, he was trying to burn his son Faramir alive. 😂 I love John Noble, he’s great in everything he’s in.

Demanda

Fields said they were having drinks with Burt’s “Lumon partner” not his “severed partner”.

DN Reacts

I feel like that’s intentionally ambiguous to make us think his Lumon partner means his severed romantic partner, or maybe I just read that wrong.

Demanda

“Directed by Ben Stiller” doesn’t show up on a lot of the episodes because he didn’t direct all of them. He only directed half the episodes this season. He’s not leaving the show, he’s just not directing any episodes for season 3 because he’s working on another project. He says he will still be executive producing and heavily involved. He’s actively working on season 3 right now. Creator and frequent episode writer Dan Erickson will also still be involved and is also working on season 3. There’s no release date for it yet but I’ve seen articles that say probably late 2027.

Demanda

I think so too. It could easily be either a severed or unsevered person, as well as easily either a work partner or a romantic partner.

Shanti (cuchupacu)

the chinese restaurant where helena approaches mark is zufu, which means paternal grandfather and could be a reference to her eagan lineage, but on one of the signs only fu is lit. fu means father, which could imply a number of things, but it can also be read as F U, which is probably how mark is feeling about lumon when he decides to flood the chip. remember the song june’s band played? “fu¢k you, lumon!”

Shanti (cuchupacu)

helena sucks. when she talks to mark at the restaurant, she’s not only testing him, but trying to recreate the kind of banter helly r. and mark s. have without the history and closeness the innies share. gemma, miss casey, mark s., mr. scout, helena, and helly r. -it’s more like a love hexagon. in S1E3 natalie was on the news commenting on a story about a severed employee who became pregnant at work, foreshadowing the emotional and legal complications to come. there has to be so much more to burt’s story. i think he knows a lot despite his recent innie stint w lumon. or maybe he could only work as an innie as a result of his previous involvement.

Sheri

"Is your cat on acid again?" LOL this is why I love the uncut versions

The actress who plays Helly does such an awesome job of making her innie and outie distinctively different people! I have no proof and I don’t know if this is true, but I remember thinking Burt was distracting Irv with dinner so Drummond could go through his house. The next episode is probably my favorite one in terms of writing in the entire show so far. I’m excited for you guys to see it ☺️

I suspect Helly took her shoes off because she's overwhelmed with the new information that she's both been abused and used to abuse Mark and can't even remember the trauma. As also stated she hates the feeling of being dressed by Helena.

tiramisujen ≽^•⩊•^≼

"She's walking with such conviction" - yeah that's the Helly walk, a big hint in episodes 1-4 that it was Helena and not Helly. As soon as we get Helly back it's so obvious

tiramisujen ≽^•⩊•^≼

Not saying I fully believe the story that Burt and Fields told Irving about how he ended up at Lumon- but I find it very interesting that Lumon now seems to have ties to church. We've continually seen parallels between the employee hand book and bible passages and cult like qualities Lumon has. Now we know of another potential way for Lumon to target vulnerable people. Tying Severance to the idea of salvation.

tiramisujen ≽^•⩊•^≼

I always wonder how much Outie Mark remembers from the crossover memory. He and Helly did just have a conversation about what Helena did on the ORTBO. Then Mark seems really guarded at the restaurant with her. We've not really been shown how much Outie Mark knows about Helena

tiramisujen ≽^•⩊•^≼

I find it so funny how much you guys trust Devon. My best friend that I watch with reeeeally thinks she's suss 😂

tiramisujen ≽^•⩊•^≼

On the “Lumon Partner” phrasing I think we are *supposed* to think that means a romantic relationship with a colleague, but what other profession would you have a partner? I can think of a Lawyer or Police/Detective. Lumon seems big enough to have their own investigative team so I that’s where my mind goes to. Am very suss on Burt 👀

tiramisujen ≽^•⩊•^≼

I think that Burt has worked at Lumon for at least 20 years. Fields said they were having drinks with Burt's “Lumon partner” 20 years ago and then Irv asked "didn't the first severed office open 12 years ago?" which Burt then confirms and tells Fields that's enough wine. Think Fields slipped up telling Irv more than he was supposed to know. Think it's absolutely possible what Damo mentioned about the dinner being away to get Irv out of the house so Drummond could get in and snoop.

Chiming in about the most important part of the episode 😂 Milchick wasn’t chastised about staples, he was chastised because he put paper clips on backwards. Backwards, you say? I’m pretty sure it means the short clip was on the back and the long clip was in the front. I know personally I put the short clip in front, but clip orientation has never confused me as to where to start reading, personally. So Milchick just paper clipped about a billion pages of documents to train his hands to clip it the right way. Hence his hands trembling; that had to have fried his hands.

Weird Magic

technically, I think that was him in the S1 finale, but I get the comment :)

CK

Milchick is being reprimanded for placing the paperclip itself from back to front, which seems to mean putting the smaller loop of the clip in the front of the paper and the larger loop in the back. It's ridiculous because no one looks at the paperclip loops to inform them how to start reading papers that are clipped together. For Westerners, anyway, we look at the placement of the paperclip on the upper left of the first page, since that facilitates reading from left to right and turning the page like a book. I did have an English teach in high school who took points off of our grade for work that didn't have the staple 1) positioned perfectly in the upper left corner of the page AND 2) angled across the corner so that pages could be easily turned and not get hung up on a vertical or horizontally placed staple. Luckily, I'm an ace at stapling - almost as good as my true super power, sleeping.

Sheri

The critique of Milchick's vocabulary is another example of Lumon being racist. His white colleagues, including Mr. Drummond, are permitted to use complex vocabulary, but Milchick is penalized and told to "use small words" so he doesn't seem "above his station". It's a racist corporate microagression.

Demanda

Season one Fields was actually played by someone else. So I was still technically incorrect, but in a different way 😂

Demanda

That’s how I read the trembling hands too. I once worked in a factory operating a robot, and it crapped out one night when we were close to quota. So I finished the rest of the parts manually, and even though it was less than two hours of work my hands were shaking like crazy from exhaustion when I clocked out.

Sheri

Wrexham beat United today. Just sayin' :-)

Don Della DonDon

One reason to sever is to keep corporate secrets; no way of letting on the potentially nefarious activities at the workplace

Don Della DonDon

Those fish are Siamese fighting fish. They have to be kept separate otherwise they’ll tear each other to pieces; perhaps what would happen if the innie and the outie actually met each other

TLC

It was never about staples...he was putting paperclips on the wrong way... he spent all that time to teach himself to do it the Luman way. What I dont understand about the entire hell and heaven conversation is If Fields goes to heaven, outie Bert goes to hell, and innie Bert goes to heaven, innie Bert will have no memory of Fields. The idea that they will be together doesn't make sense to me. As others has said the 20 year versus 12 years comment was clearly a slip maybe due to alcohol...otherwise Bert would not have made a point later of bringing it back up and saying it didn't mean anything as if he knew he had to convince Irving. Bert says he was once a scoundrel...maybe he still is. What he referring to his cheating on Fields or that he was doing terrible things for Luman? Outie Bert seems to me to be just freaking sinister! I think this is the first thing I've seen John Nobles (Fields) in years! Great to see him again

TLC

Listening to your conversation about Gemma brought at idea to my mind. What it they are not rebuilding Gemma but rather they are trying to erase her outtie from the mind of the innie...thereby they absolutely eliminate any hope of re-integration.

Robert

I don't think Helena was fishing for signs of reintegration. She just slept with Mark at the ORTBO, she genuinely likes him. They hint heavily that she has not had any real love interest in her life. When Mark said "taking me home to meet dad already" she said he'd be the first. I think she is just trying to get close to outie Mark since she can't go back to the severed floor as herself. When Helena saw Helly kiss Mark she was jealous, and curious, and wanted to feel what Helly was feeling. Her getting Gemmas name wrong is not a big surprise... she probably knows what's going on, and that Marks wife is down there, but she wouldn't care enough about her to remember her name (I could be wrong but that's the way I see it). Helena doesn't know that Mark knows Gemma is alive, but Mark knows she must know (despite getting her name wrong), and when Helena brings her up (dumb move) it shakes him up, understandably. Next episode is also one of, if not my favorite episodes. Can't wait to see the reaction.

Julie A

That's one hell of an NDA!

Don Della DonDon

Exactly, and if Lumen is as all consuming in this world as they appear to be who would stop them?

Shanti (cuchupacu)

i think burt knows a whole lot he’s not saying and he’s probably not a good person, although his innie is.

Ellyana Smith

i think that’s why burt gave irv that long stare after fields said “he’ll go to heaven to be with me”. because burt knows his innie would be searching for irving

Brett Christensen

No show replaces Severance. Only what comes after.

Demanda

Yup! I keep bettas myself and just an hour ago I did a deep clean on one of their tanks. If I need to take the fish out, I put it in its own sealed container and float it in another tank so the temperature stays consistent for the displaced betta… and even with plastic between them the tank resident was trying his best to get at the interloper and kill him. They posture and flare at each other while I try to clean as fast as possible and get betta 2 back in his tank.

Demanda

And I already said this last time it was mentioned, but I cannot stress enough how cruel a setup like Mark’s is. Even without the divider that tank is too small for one betta, let alone two, and he’s got no plants or cover or anything in there for them. Doesn’t look like there’s a filter or a heater either, which really sucks for tropical fish living in a town as cold as this one seems to be :(

Nikki_KnotDoneYet

watching on catchup. Damo’s extra emphasis on “legally” though… 😂

Imthecatman

His best role is in Fringe...by a million miles. Wish more people watched Fringe.

Demanda

Agreed! It’s an excellent show and he’s the best character by a mile.

LateNight User

Yea, the Truman Show isn’t a good model to follow and Season 2, Episode 1 gives the evidence. The new MDR team that Milchik had to organize over one weekend came from Italy and Grand Rapids, a city in Michigan state — places too separate and far away to enclose under a single Truman Show-like canopy. Lumen exists in a world similar to ours, but I don’t think exactly ours.

Tiashniq

In my opinion I don’t think it was outie Burt on the severed floor because in season he said to Milchick “Not another trip to the break room I hope. Yesterday was quite enough”. They wouldn’t send outie Burt to the break room.

Mike Iorio

Love you guys but you had me screaming at my iPad “ATILLA THE HUN!” within the first minute!! 😄 Edit: and now you have me laughing my head off with the “Bert and Ernie” 🤣🤣🤣
