Time to remember season 8, it's been a decade since I've last watched these last 2 seasons, so I'm finally at a point where I'm in this almost blind like you guys. Other than a couple of high points that really stick in my mind :)

Only less than two seasons left and yet we have some of my favourite episodes of the series left to explore. Excited!

The plot of this episode (especially the boss’ story) always annoys me, because at least in the US the only way one spouse would “get everything” in the divorce is if you had a prenup specifying that would be the case, and even that would be unlikely to hold up in court. The court divides martial assets evenly, and typically anything you brought into the marriage or inherited during it is not subject to that process. The common portrayal of a man “losing everything” in a divorce because of some heartless harpy is a complete myth and it smacks of misogynist fear-mongering. Really hate that it’s making a resurgence in 2026.

Only if we suspect our daughter might be still awake and we need to mask any sounds lol

Do you feel like they’re endorsing that type of portrayal? To me, it feels like the episode is mocking the Boss and most of the characters’ behavior. We’re not supposed to sympathize with The Boss. He doesn’t even remember Marshall’s name despite having worked with him for years and he cares more about his dog than his children or his ex-wife. He’s a pretty pathetic character and I’ve always interpreted these kinds of archetypal characters as being more of a mockery/satirical rather than something positive.

No, I don’t think they’re portraying the boss as sympathetic at all, but there’s never any question or pushback on his claims that his wife somehow took everything from him in the divorce. Other characters treat these claims as credible and it’s presented as though it’s a serious consideration for anyone entering into marriage. On its own, the episode wouldn’t bother me much, but it’s part of a larger arc wherein the show and characters portray a lot of sexist attitudes. They keep asserting that Quinn “scammed” Barney so he has good reason not to trust her. He came to her place of work, where she gets paid for her time and physical labor, and purchased that time and labor to try to convince her to go on a date with him. She was lying about the guy at the bar being her manager, but it’s absolutely true that you get in trouble at work for, you know, not working. Even without that, expecting her to forego her earnings at his whim is ridiculous. Pretending to be into a dude to get him to spend money at the establishment is literally her job, and Barney knows that. The show clearly wanted to equate what Quinn does (a business transaction with clear boundaries intended to prevent this exact kind of emotional confusion) with what Barney does (lies to and manipulates women, including recording them without their consent amongst many other horrific things) and that really bothers me. On top of all of that, Quinn clearly makes an excellent income at her job, which she was pressured into giving up for Barney after relentless public shaming from him, and then he’s worried about HER stealing HIS money?? I feel like the show wants us to feel that Barney and Quinn ultimately don’t work out because they are both untrustworthy people. But Quinn doesn’t really do anything to earn that, whilst Barney should realistically be in jail. TL;DR: the prenup plot point bothers me so much because I have issues with how the Quinn character and storyline are treated as a whole

Season 8 constantly have great needle drop!! Also, the whole Robin watching herself on TV was kinda hinted at back in Season 6 when she was dating Max (that lawyer guy friend with Marshall - they first met when everyone was doing the "race" to see who is the first one get to the coffee shop where Max at, and the guy who Robin told Lily that he has a small penis). He said Robin have a weird thing she likes to do in bedroom that lead to their breakup.

i love that klaus is talking up “strange compatriots,” a show that sounds like a german version of “the odd couple” from the 70s, except instead of one guy being neat and the other messy, he says one is neat and the other very, very neat. this episode debuted in 2012, two and a half years before thomas lennon (klaus) starred in a remake of “the odd couple” w matthew perry!
