I had to simplify it for brevity’s sake, but basically superstitions are learned behaviors that a person chooses to do. Compulsions are strong, often inexplicable urges to do something specific. Superstitious people perform the ritual because they believe it will give them a certain outcome; people act out compulsions because our brains actively cause us discomfort or distress if we don’t. I don’t have OCD and I’m the exact opposite of superstitious, but I do occasionally experience compulsions and they are definitely not the same even if they look like it from the outside.

I’m autistic so it could just be that but I think I mayyy also have OCD (I haven’t seen a dr about it but I consider it from time to time as I have horrible emetophobia & think about germs 24/7 and it leads to washing my hands 3 times in a row about 100 times a day till they bleed 😫) as I get lots of horrible intrusive thoughts and compulsions that lead to me feeling extremely distressed/anxious if I don’t act on them. My girlfriend on the other hand is mega superstitious (very unlike me 😂) and she’s more like “don’t walk on the drain, it’s unlucky!!! don’t!!” or “do it for good luck!” etc etc

for the longest time this was the last episode i watched, i repeated the whole show hundreds of times before watching the next ep and the first of finale in my last apartment right before i moved at the end of last year. so i would not be against it if you wanted to savor the ending too hahahah

i used to do the evening out thing when i was a kid, but not just w cracks. if i tapped my right foot twice, i’d feel the need to do the same w my left foot. it was mostly w feet doing the same on both sides and it went away within a year or less. a few years ago i heard that there’s an age where children are more disposed to exhibiting compulsive behavior, and i’d been in that range at the time it happened to me. i’ve since tried to look up more information on the subject and found nothing. now i know i have ADHD and wonder if that’s connected, too, since everything else seems to be.
